They are really sweet people though, I’ve watched a few of the documentaries. I agree they had no choice of course, they’re making the best with what they were given. And I’m pretty sure the neighbourhood is very protective about them because In reality they’re vulnerable.
I have been a genealogist since 1976. I have studied over a hundred thousand familial relationships going back centuries. First, while inbreeding is generally not a good idea, you do NOT get this level of deformity from just two first cousins mating. This is a multigenerational thing at the very least. Look at the Hapsburgs of Spain as an example of what NOT to do. First one or two generations nothing serious but then you can see the progression of deformity increase as one goes down the generations. This family is at the very least on the same level or worse and this had to happen as a result of at least four or five generations of repeated inbreeding. I also want to point out that marriage between first cousins is legal in 19 states and this is due in large part to the low risk of medical issues from just the one time. Now if you repeat this two more generations you will probably see some issues arising and another one or two generations and you get this family. I also want to point out that first cousin marriage is more common than you think and is not new. It is less common now due to people moving around more. But in small remote villages where people don't travel from home often, you will see first cousins marrying quite common. So far I have not seen a single 8 generation human pedigree without at least one example. I have several in my family from the 17th century and their children were normal and well educated. But it did not repeat ever going back five hundred years. But one thing about incest is it usually cures itself over time. After a few generations, the product of repeated incest is incapable of reproducing which is why the last Hapsburg died without any children.
Something that isnt said here is that their neighbors also help take care of them and protect them. How do i know this? A family member of mine (who loves in WV) saw the documentary, and went and brought them food and stuff. Their neighbors were very mich trying to protect them. I thinks thats really kinda sweet
All my family is from Tennessee & Alabama. I’ve never lived back there, but visited often. A friend of mine’s family has deep roots in Kentucky. He says this used to happen all over back there, basically because the cabins/houses were separated by so many hills, mountains & valleys. You could spend 2 days walking to the closest neighbor’s house only to learn they didn’t have any girl children, or when they did, she might not want anything to do with them. Their sisters were right there next to them
Where im from this isnt unheard of. Im glad Mark introduces people to the leaser realized demographics in our country. They didnt choose their position in life. There's no reason to make fun and ostracize them. The way that their neighbors and community protect them is beautiful
Yeah there seems to be more than 1 or 2 generations of incest going on here. Remember the cousin marrying Habsburgs and sibling marrying Pharoahs went generations or even centuries without serious problems.
I had a friend in high school who is a aunt-nephew child and he is normal 😂😂 there's no way these people's parents are only cousins and that they are the 1st inbred generation
You do realize this is from generations of inbreeding right? The parents were just as messed up. And the siblings we see here had another kid themselves. The youngest one isn’t a sibling, he’s the child of two of them….

Their physical deformities and mental disabilities is the result of incest and inbreeding. They are being loved and are happy with and to.each other. If you're so compassionate, why don't you have them come live with you, and you can give them the love and happiness you think they deserve, in your house. After all, those are your distant cousins!! I bet my next pay check, you wouldn't do it. Hypocrite! 😂
It's so sad and heartbreaking, I guess it's lack of options, is why they inbred , that's the only reason I can think of for why this family has done this.
I personally don't believe this to be cousins work though. This gotta be siblings getting together or parents sleeping with their kid's type of work. I don't believe cousins getting together will have this affect. I need a genealogy chart to prove they parents were cousins.
On a lighter note: a while ago, a magazine article featured the story of two HS friends, both adopted, who wanted to help each other to find their biological families. The students were male & female. Good thing they were just friends. They discovered that they were twin siblings. And the chances were?!
I feel so bad for these people. And only one out of the bunch can actually speak... it's heartbreaking. I truly do hope they live and have lived their best lives despite their inability to communicate thoroughly :( heart goes out to them
I don’t think their inability to communicate is due to inbreeding. I think it’s due to a lack of proper education or special education as the case may be.
@@yusrabintrabah2553bro just bcuz its cultural doesnt mean its ok, in some cultures fgm is ok and yet its outlawed in my country. Eating junkfood is too normalized in the western world, yet its not ok
No judgement to them, specifically. But in order for them to be that deformed, the incest would have had to have been going on for multiple generations. Meaning their parents saw what the inbreeding was doing to their gene pool and decided to keep doing it anyway
First cousin babies would be nowhere as bad as this. Heck, sibling babies wouldn't be this bad as well. This is the result of multiple generations of inbreeding
If you keep the cousin marriage tradition for years maybe then this could happen but I guess normal people after the first two cousin marriages would be like "wait a minute let's stop this because now the family tree doesn't even make any sense" ..
It's also because of dirty water drugs alcohol or any other addictive substances. It's also because of yes severe inbreeding or just having the unlucky genetic jackpot.
@@tammycaldwell968 That is no excuse at all! By the time children grow into adulthood, they should realize that these people have no responsibility about who they are or their conditions.

That family is very similar to royal families in history. Royals kept intermarrying to maintain their blue blood, but many of these royal children became mentally and physically challenged. Then the royals (or their advisors) learned to procure brides from other royal families in other countries to maintain blue blood, and gain more land and political power
In 1990 I worked as a nurse in a children's home in Hungary where babies abandoned by inbred parents were also hospitalized. Now I live in Italy and my ex former married neighbors were first cousins, they had 3 children one more disabled then the other :-(
@@osyasa6255 they have been inbreeding for generations already. why do you think so many are low iq. the way they go at it they probably do not know who their brothers and sisters are.
Lived in West Virginia my whole life , never met these people or anyone like them but I know they will be safe here to live in peace without being attacked or killed
The sad part is, it end up being a cycle that just gets worse. Two relatives get together and have kids, those kids grow up thinking its normal and do it again, and as it continues the family becomes more isolated and often has sexual abuse (it already does since incest is sexual abuse, but it often ends up where the parents abuse the children) and as the inbreeding continues, mental issues arise that just make it worse (often impulsivity) and eventually the parents cant even care for the children. Thats probably why one of them only communicates in barks and growls: isolation and neglect from the rest of the family.
unless they purposefully made the lives of their children harder than it needs to be thanks to their genetic coding then its their fault if the kid suffers because of its own body
No “double cousins.” Their grandfathers were twins, same DNA. Their children (cousins) married, (a girl from one grandfather/boy from other grandfather), hence the inbreeding.
@@Yreev Their grandfathers were twins that I believe married sisters from another family. Which still would have been okay.
It’s really heartbreaking and sad but I have heard that the townspeople there are very protective and kind to them 🙏🙏🙏
Whatever their ancestors did with each other, it has successfully ruined the lives of their descendants. Theres no coming back from that.

Their sisters were right there next to them
That's good to hear. They need kind souls looking after them. I worry about Ray, Timmy, and Lorraine so much if something were to happen to Betty.

Doesn’t matter what issues or deformities someone may have. They all deserve to be loved and feel happiness.
Their physical deformities and mental disabilities is the result of incest and inbreeding. They are being loved and are happy with and to.each other. No judgement to them, specifically. But in order for them to be that deformed, the incest would have had to have been going on for multiple generations. Meaning their parents saw what the inbreeding was doing to their gene pool and decided to keep doing it anyway

That family is very similar to royal families in history. Royals kept intermarrying to maintain their blue blood, but many of these royal children became mentally and physically challenged.

Nah this is due to brother and sister having kids. Not cousins
More like several generations of no new blood - even second cousins can quickly become more closely "related" than actual siblings!
No “double cousins.” Their grandfathers were twins, same DNA. Their children (cousins) married, (a girl from one grandfather/boy from other grandfather), hence the inbreeding.
