      Hi David, thanks for your videos. I like to see new bikes, bike products and hear what bike brands are up to. I have a particular interest in British bike brands, Mason, J.Laverack, Brompton, Boardman, Enigma, Genesis…. How about a Moulton review? Just like everyone, I’m waiting for the Tolkien Bike…. One bike to rule them all.

    Although the Boardman Adv review didn't do too well in viewing figure terms, the value of your reviews to those considering buying the value for money and accessible end of the bike market shouldn't be under estimated, as they are really appreciated. There were no reviews available when I bought the Adv 9.0 and 9.4 bikes, both great bikes. I also purchased the Boardman SLR 9.4 off the back of your review and that bike has performed in line with your review. I also believe people will continue to watch the reviews long after being posted, so the short period of time since posting may not indicate that it's a review people don't wish to see. Keep up the great work David.

    First! (And now for commentary); I like the approach you take David. When you review lesser known brands of bikes and components it increases my product knowledge and depth of view in the bicycle industry. I often go the the product website and learn more about them and it enables me to speak intelligently about many different aspects of cycling merchandise. So, in that regard; you provide and invaluable service. Besides; all the big brands (Trek, Specialize, Cannondale, Canyon, and so on) aren't putting out new gear often enough for you to have a steady stream of content. You almost have to review lesser known products to have a show! I also like that your content spans the breadth of cycling disciplines; specifically road and gravel riding. Just keep doing what you are doing. While you may see fit to make some adjustments as a presenter, I do believe you are on a really good path. Thanks for all you do!

      @keeno86 15 дней назад +1

      I agree! I like to hear about new and lesser known components and bikes. Especially when you can compare them directly or ride bikes back-to-back, most of us mortals don't have the opportunity or good fortune to test things in that way!

    I listen to your reviews because I find you to be thoughtful, thorough, patient, insightful, respectful and sincerely interested and passionate about riding. You are, my favorite reviewer. All my bikes are old, the newest being a 2003 Trek 5900, also 3 steel bikes from 1984, 1993 and 1998, and 1999 Cannondale Caad R4000. I am not actively looking for a new bike. But I enjoy following the evolution of the bicycle and the sport. Thank you for the excellent service and job you do. By the way, some of the reviews you listed as being less successful were some of my favorites, along with several from the top ten as well. Cheers, and Happy New Year!

    I actually just purchased the Propain Terrel CF and one of the main reasons is your review of it. I was in the market for the last 8 months and I don't remember how I heard of Propain, but the specs of the Terrel CF immediately caught my attention, it got everything I was looking for without having to break the bank. I was looking for reviews and there were barely any. Then one day you posted yours it convinced me it was the bike I was looking for. I found a few others after that and it only confirmed my choice.
    So thank you and keep doing what you're doing, your channel is amazing.

  • @RC-Elevation
    @RC-Elevation 14 дней назад +3

    Great recap. I'm a fairly new subscriber to your channel and I am personally interested in the lesser known brands offering great value. I wouldn't look into those numbers too deeply because it takes a minimum of 7 impressions on a brand before someone even remembers it to make a purchase. I would still show those bikes because sometimes people just need to understand them better or more deeply with other reviewers also picking them up. Big brands like Giant, Specialized and Trek will always command big brand attention, so no surprises there. I may be an exception, but I think you showing lesser know brands gives you an edge as someone being ahead of the market. At some point, when the rest of the people catch up, you can say you recognized it first :)

  • @billyblanco8106
    @billyblanco8106 15 дней назад +5

    I'm a Specialized guy (since 1983 w/ steel Allez), so only interested really in how others compare. That said, for bike reviews in general, I would start with a category (e.g. road, gravel (most popular currently), allroad, comfort, e-bike, etc.) and then show a list of bikes in that category that you feel would be most innarresting to YTubers, and then pick one (if you have that option) to do a full review on...just my thoughts...but David, really I think and thank you for already doing a great job, especially with your dog care...arff arff !!!

    I agree with many of the comments below the lesser known brands need some airplay and your video's are top notch on describing what we all want to know. I very much like the comparison videos so perhaps there is a way to incorporate some of the lesser known or specialist bikes into a part in that type of video so people get the best of both worlds. Overall loved what you did in 2024 and looking forward to 2025, thanks.

    Thanks for all the reviews David! Your channel is my go to for deciding which bikes end up on my short list (yes, I am still undecided 🙃). I was debating buying the Propain Terrel, but I would not buy a bike of which you dont have a review out. Your reviews are genuine and go into the things that matter for everyday riders, so they are decisive for me. Didn't buy the Propain in the end. Hoping 2025 brings a Giant Revolt with UDH and more SRAM options (they have mostly shimano builds and expensive SRAM builds). keep up the good work David!

    I can only say please keep shining a light on the smaller brands! I have bought an Enigma Etape with your guidance and have a Fairlight Secan 3.0 on order (super excited to see the full review!!) and couldn't be happier about both purchases. People will eventually realize that an 8k US (Made in China) big-brand carbon bike with second-tier groupset and in-house wheels (all of which will age out in a couple of years) isn't actually a great value proposition. Also, thanks for being a resource for the normal cyclists out there - we aren't all ex-pros or uber-competitive club riders :)

    Fairlight Secan 3.0 is on my wish list. I'll be updating my gravel bike in the coming 12 to 18 months and I'm very much intrigued by going steel instead of carbon. My current bike is in the lighter-stiffer-faster-more-aero category, but I've started to wonder whether I could do better with another kind of gravel bike. Can't seem to get my head around the weight 'penalty', though, so it would be great to hear your thoughts on that.

    Great recap David - 2 things I picked up - BMC, great bikes but getting frame specific spares and parts from Switzerland is a pain in the butt and out of the UK distributors hands so that puts people off ( speaking as someone working in the bike industry) and Boardman - the 2025 bikes have come on enormously,but there’s still a lot of brand snobbery out there , which is a shame because you look at what your getting with a Boardman gravel bike and it’s amazing bang for your buck !!

    Great video David. I agree with the comments below about not chasing viewings as an absolute. Variety is important. Personally I would like a feature on the impact the increasing tyre width has on the wheel market. The choice if you run 28mm from big brands or Chinese direct to customer is vast. If you want to run 34mm and don’t intend on gravel your choice is more limited. Would love this to incorporate outer / inner width advice with the latest science backing it up.

      Btw I suspect that the “more hyped bikes” at hype times getting a lot of viewers from youtube searches (at least your channels always pops out for me for most my bike related searches), whereas people will search less on not too commonly known bikes (as well having smaller chance to get our hands on them). If the bike videos is not up in “hype time” then those views will be most likely lost.

Great to see all your content, they’re ones I always watch irrespective of my interest in specific bikes, it’s good to see what’s happening generally, especially on brands not so well known and are much better value for money. Also at the end of your review on this video of the Defy you mentioned something like a 'heavier bike' is no bar to competition, were you referring to the Defy? Its not the lightest but for the price I would not have thought it as a heavy road bike? or did I misunderstand you? Thanks

    You should do more videos that are group comparisons of many different framesets. Talk ONLY about ride feeling. (don't talk about specs, price, weight, appearance, or anything else we can lookup on the brand websites or google in three seconds).
    Share how the frames feel in comparison to eachother in various categories (comfort, handling, stiffness, responsiveness, etc.). This is the info that is impossible for us to know by reviewing specs and watching individual reviews. Nearly every single individual review says many of the same things

    I enjoy your insights during a bike test - I don't care what the %stiffness increase is (which IMHO is the purest marketing BS anyway/a complete switch off), what the head angle or seat stay length, weight, etc., is - that's all data I can get from a website & frankly every other "numbers" review. It's YOUR assessment of where / how to use the bike best: does it properly fit into a racing, endurance, etc category. How does it "feel" to ride. What works/doesn't - for you. I also enjoy the incredibly broad range of bikes you review - which suggests you are not sponsored & is another big "turn off" of bike reviews/aka "global" channels (& this even if they admit they are sponsored).

    For those of us cycling dabblers, maybe when we are shopping we want the Honda or Toyota of bikes - one that we know we can get good local service and parts for years to come and that will be reliable, dependable, durable. Trek and Specialized make Ferraris but they also make Hondas. But I love learning about other brands too, don’t stop!

    It’s probably the titles you used that lowered the view count on some of the videos. People who love Pinarello don’t want to see a hit piece on Pinarello. I almost didn’t watch this video to be honest. Not because I’m a Pinarello fan boy, I just don’t watch videos that look like clickbait or negative. Towards the end of 2024 some of your videos seemed kind of negative. I’m not being a hater, just giving my thoughts. I actually like your vids and have watched a lot of them.

    I notice that some of the bikes on the least popular list seem to be expensive and a bit boring. The propane looks initially to be well priced but when you factor in the delivery cost it doesn’t look quite so good. and I am looking at gravel bikes at the moment.Pinarello looks a bit mahhhh to me,they should stick to beautiful full on race bikes. I noticed your dog, listening intently and making sure that you haven’t missed anything out 🤔

    The Pinarello costs more than most of the cars I bought before I turned 30 years old. They don’t distinguish themselves enough to justify that much money for the average rider. I’m not even a little interested in knowing more about a bike I would never consider buying.

    Not 1 in my group that swap to SL8 that improves their performance. The weak will remain weak, while the strong one can just ride any bikes.
