Freddie Mercury was a master of understanding harmonics and four-part overtones. His arranging of the voices in this piece (and a lot of his other compositions) was very operatic.

I was fortunate enough to see Queen twice in concert. The last one was in Montreal in 1981. It's hard to believe that Freddie has been gone for more and a quarter of a century and amazing to see young people discovering what a treasured talent he was today! He passed on my birthday so it leaves a bittersweet feeling every year. I light a candle and play 'Who Wants To Live Forever' dedicated to him.

This was basically the very first music video. Prior to this one, groups would put out promotional videos of them lipsyncing to their record. Queen knew this song was different plus it is almost 6 minutes long which meant it had to be marketed differently. To add to the problem, they were about to go on tour so this video would have to actually do the promotion of the song since they would not be available for interviews.
The band members, especially Freddie, had a vision of how they wanted to present this song. So instead of using a videographer as all the previous videos did, they got a TV director, Bruce Gowers, to shoot their video. The opening is inspired by an iconic photo of Marlene Dietrich that Freddie loved (the soft uplighting). BTW, the band had such a clear idea of what they wanted to see in the video, the whole thing only took about 4 hours to film.
Anyway, when the video came out, it so mesmerizing that it was played over and over again. No one had ever heard a song like Bohemian Rhapsody and they had definitely never seen a music video that was so dramatic and enticing as this one. Suddenly, every artist is making music video not just to sell their song to the publisher but to promote it to their fans and MTV is born.

In a time bands had to be able to sing and play their instruments and write their own music..no playback or autotune..never in Freddie's life until 1991..very versatile musically in every genre. Somebody to love in Montreal 81 is a banger...Aretha Franklin was Freddie's inspiration..he adored her. Freddie had a 4 octave voice..F2 to F5.

They have a 20 year catalog of amazing songs...every single one is different. They were a rock band, but you'll find they sing every genre. Live performances are always best. Check out White Queen at Hammersmith Odeon, Who Wants to Live Forever in Budapest, Somebody to Love in Montreal. Live Aid 1985 is a must. Love of My Life in Rio. Those are some of the best for starters.

I have been a Queen fan for over 35 years, having first saw them live at Live Aid in 1985, twice in July 1986 at London Wembley and at Freddie Mercury's ever last live performance at Knebworth UK in August 1986. Freddie died nearly 29 years ago now and he's still classed a legend by EVERYONE. Queen as a band were untouchable and how they approached music was amazing. Freddie's voice has gone down in history as he has a Four Octave voice range and can hit any note. I'm so glad you enjoyed Bohemian Rhapsody but if you REALLY want to check out their talent I recommend the following. Also, Queen were the only band EVER to sound better live than in the actual studio, in an era where there were no earpieces or autotuning, just sheer talent.
Somebody to Love - LIVE at Montreal 1981 - A MUST DO
Save Me - LIVE at Montreal 1981
Dragon Attach - LIVE at Montreal 1981 [this has got to be the Montreal version as there are quite few other versions] - MUST DO
Another One Bites the Dust - LIVE at Wembley 1986 - A MUST DO
One Vision - LIVE at Wembley 1986
Under Pressure - LIVE at Wembley 1986 [this shows Freddie having 72,000 in the palm of his hands] - A MUST DO
Now I'm Here - LIVE at Wembley 1986
Also a must to check out is :-
Queen at Live Aid in 1985 [their 20 minute performance has gone down as the best performance in history] - MUST DO
One Vision Documentary - this films the band members having fun, making music and songwriting
YOU HAVE TO CHECK OUT ALL OF THE ABOVE PERFORMANCES TO GET AN INSIGHT OF WHAT A PHENOMENON THEY WERE !!!!
Freddie Mercury (main vocalist) sadly passed away in November 1981. He is considered (to this day) as the greatest showman of all time. However, he was a very shy private person and nothing like what you see when he's on stage. He was a beautiful human being and is sadly missed by hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of thousand people across the globe. RIP Freddie, my hero x
Stay safe much love from Manchester UK x
    Band members were :-
Freddie Mercury - main vocalist, piano player, guitar player and songwriter
Brian May - the best electric guitar player ever, backing vocalist and song writer
Roger Taylor - drummer, Freddie's main back-up vocalist and songwriter
John Deacon - bass player and songwriter
    Hope the above helps x

Another banger Dxmn. My only criticism is I hope you heard the song in stereo in your headphones (it came across in mono on youtube). You miss so much of the mix hearing it in mono. On the group, you're about to go down a very large rabbit hole with the group Queen. They have over 30 years of fame covering all genres. Although it all came to a sudden end with the death of Freddie Mercury who died of aids. Their legacy still lives on. Enjoy the ride. You're going to love it.

Freddie Mercury - College Degree in Graphic Design
Roger Taylor - Switched from Dentistry to get a College Degree in Biology
John Deacon - College Degree in Electronic Engineering (built the “Deaky Amp that gave Brian’s guitar extra oomph)
Brian May - College Degree in Physics, PHD in Astrophysics (built his own guitar with his dad out of things around his home, like a fireplace mantel, knitting needle, etc.)
All 4 wrote #1 songs, all 4 are in the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Th highest note you heard in this song was Roger, who also had a 4 octave range.

He always left the meaning of the song to be interpreted by the

company didn’t want it released as one song, they wanted to chop it up
but the band wouldn’t hear of it. It was an immediate worldwide hit.

Queen is, to me, the most incredible band ever, for many reasons:
*The originality of their songs and compositions.
    * All of them are really gifted songwriters
*The Queen style and his special sound: harmonies, layers of voices, Brian’s guitar, Roger’s drums, John’s incredible bass.., and the incomparable Freddie’s voice
*The quality of their albums and recording... and their originality way to record too, like in “Seaside Rendezvous”..,, and, of course, in Bohemian Rhapsody
*The amazing live concerts... full of energy... with a flamboyant and outstanding Freddie.. and the quality of lights, smoke, sound and all the band on the stage..!!

In between we got the likes of "Fat Bottomed Girls, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Don't Stop Me Now, and One Vision. 1975 The first music video ever. It blew us all away! It was STUNNING for the time and STILL IS. I have been a Queen fan since 1970. Their outfits as you called them were the fashion of the 70's for some reason men went all feminine, really long hair and if you look you can see Fred has painted fingernails! Now you need to check out LiveAid 1985 AND Montreal 1981where he sings Somebody to Love l NEVER get tired of watching them, Fred is still living when you watch. AMAZING! Freddy did tribute songs to the people that influenced his younger life. Crazy Little Thing Called Love he wrote two years after Elvis died while in the bath it took 10 mins. When Fred sings it many people think it is an Elvis song but it's Fred's tribute by sounding like Elvis at times when he sings it. I am around the same age as the band members and still rock to Queen with my children and grandchildren! Queen also rock's in my ❤🇬🇧. Enjoy your exploration down the road to Queen! 👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Freddie mercury is the lead singer. He did most of the vocals by himself when it showed the 4 silhouettes. Brian May is the lead guitar player John Deacon is the bass player. Roger Taylor is the drummer. This basically was 3 songs put into 1 by Freddie. They all wrote music. They wore white back in the day so people could see them onstage. They all have college degrees. Very smart individuals. This video is technically the first music video. Great reaction. Go to Queen Somebody to Love live in Montreal. Freddie loved Aretha Franklin. He passed away in 1991 of aids. He is a legend. Enjoy the Queen ride

The entire band or a group of geniuses and academics but they were very close friends, & basically a family because they stayed together for 20 years and are still together, except for John who retired from music in 1997. John was the Dark Horse bass player of the band and he came out with some of their best hits like another one bites the dust and you're my best friend, I want to break free and more. He just didn't want anything to do with music after Freddie Mercury died because he handled the business side with queen and aside from that everything else was just apparently too heartbreaking for him to even think about.
The band members get his stay with everything from the movie and he's given his Blessing. Aside from that John totally stays away and out of the public eye. It's a shame but I respect his privacy.
Freddie Mercury has/ had the voice of a Divine messenger!! The drummer had this incredibly powerful high voice that can go down deeper immediately into transition and it's so hard to play the drums and sing at the same time but Roger could pull it off.
Brian May the lead guitar could also play the piano and ukulele had a wonderful voice but his was like warm Kahlua Coffee and it had this beautiful sound to it.
If you watch the video to who wants to live forever you will hear a lot of Brian May singing, as " I WANT IT ALL" that video was when Freddy had AIDS and blow me away freaking awesome but Brian sings some individually in that song as well as" Only You The Good Die Young".. the latter is a tearjerker because that song was released in 1997 as a tribute to Freddie Mercury by the three remaining band members of Queen.

They have sooooo many amazing songs... You should react to Don't Stop Me Now or Somebody to Love (LIVE in Montreal) next. Just read comments and react to any suggestion (by Queen) that you see and it will be FIREE (well exept song called Body Language... ignore that haha -> thats the only song by them, that I don't like). ENJOY!

This song came out in 1975. I was a kid when it came out. Freddy didn't get the lyrics from anyone. He wrote the song way before the guy you mentioned. Queen will always be the best.

Glad to have found you man. Already enjoying the channel alot! As a self professed Queen superfan, might i k kindly recommend a song White Queen, the live at the odeon concert. It really showcases his amazing vocals, and the raw talents of the entire band. And since you wanted more info, the drummer is Roger Taylor, went to dental school, as an aside, guitarist; Dr. Brian May, who is also an astrophysicist, WOW! bassist John Deacon, also an electrical engineer btw& lead singer of course is the one and only Freddie Mercury! Who graduated from Ealing Art College. So besides being musically genuises, they are also highly educated guys, fun facts.... anyway. This is a rabbit hole you will love digging into!
I have a feeling you'll really enjoy Another one bites the dust, and Under Pressure, a song they did with the late great, David Bowie.

I love to see young people find Queen and realise just how amazing their music is, this song was released in 1975 and it just blew me away, it still does. Anyway, as others will tell you their catalogue is huge and their live performances out of this world, so dive in and enjoy.
