I wish time machines were real. I would step through the camera and go back to the 80's without ever looking back. I miss the mall fountains and the people. Everything is so dull and lifeless today.
Nostalgia is such a strong emotion, and unfortunately the ability to fully quench it is unattainable, the best we can do now is enjoy the times of old through memories, videos, music and other arts. as they say, "Nostalgia is a seductive liar"
@@esquivelvhs751 It's true. While I have very happy memories watching this video since I lived nearby at the time (I was in 8th grade,) the truth of my life at the time was much sadder and darker. If I actually went back, I think I'd be very unhappy. But it really did brighten my day seeing the old place the way it used to be. Thanks for uploading!
I don’t take for granted any other times in my life, the 60’s when I was a kid, the 70’s as a teen, the 90’s in my 30’s , or even now in 2024 in my 60’s. But I still feel like the 80’s in my 20’s was the best times of my 62 years. To have been young but old enough to be in collage , and work , and old enough to call myself a young adult and experience those times was both a blast and a blessing , and it was enjoyed by most everyone who experienced it. The combination of the classy designer culture vs the cool pop culture ( the only two ways I can describe those times) influenced by the movies, tv shows and great music was so amazing , and I really can say I didn’t want the 80’s to end , and the 90’s was such a change that we all were there just hanging on , trying times keep those “ feel good” vibes going.
I was 23 years old in 1989. It was a totally different world. Everything was chill. People kept their private lives private. No one messed with others decisions like eating meat or driving gasoline powered cars. Feminism was not mainstream and women didn’t call out men as pervs for asking them on a date. Back in 89 us young guys could girl watch at the mall and try to meet a nice pretty young woman. The fashions were modest and most people respected themselves. Times were better than.
im australian an in the 90s this mall looks exactly like the one we had exept for the elevator capsule type thing but its the deadspit but like today its all dead
@@esquivelvhs751Did you ever go to any other malls during the time I'm wondering if you could upload them or send them to me i have been interested in retro culture for years please
Hi there, the Galleria Mall is in Torrance, California. It's the smaller sister mall to the famous 'Del Amo Mall' which is also in Torrance, unfortunately all the neon, including the cool neon on the elvator has been gone since the mid 2000's.
@@esquivelvhs751 Oh how cool! I love this video. I used to go to the Del Amo mall quite often, but wasn't aware of the Galleria. I also used to go to the Old Towne mall all the time in the 70's. Have you been there? It was such a unique place.
I only have ONE memory of this mall. And it's BAD. Mid to Late 1980s (I think). Me and my friends were probably "college age". We were waiting for a friend to get off work at a local restaurant. We had like an HOUR to kill . So we went to this mall. We were pretty bored so were were like "let's play "mall tag" or "mall hide and go seek" or something like that . At one point we were running IN and OUT of some of the stores pretty fast and probably laughing our asses off because what we were doing was so stupid. . Then MALL SECURITY stopped us . We did not steal or break anything. we did not hurt anyone.(And also- we did not look like dirt-bags) . The Security was all "Come with us". We were TAKEN to a room and PHOTOGRAPHED !! Like "mug shots" ! They asked our names / asked to see I.D. Then asked us to LEAVE the mall and not come back for one year. Can you IMAGINE that happening TODAY ? We could hold them on KIDNAPPING charges.
Which mall is this? Also, can you please tell me how I get those unique emojis on my phone? I can access those in live chat, but not on regular video comments. Thanks 🙏
But they weren't wrong. Your behavior was unacceptable and that's a justifiable reason to formally eject (and ban) you from the property. The photos were taken so they could do their reports, and to aid them in prosecuting you if you were to repeatedly offend their policy. That mall's Security was run like very much like a casino, just think of all the money/merchandise/people that passed through their doors.
Anything in the 80's and 90's named Galleria you knew was high class
Back when the mall was all!

I still remember when this site was the home of the South Bay Shopping Center. It was an outdoor mall but was still something special.
What city was this shopping mall at?
