Hi Emma, happy new year to you and yours 🎉. I love Jamie Chaotic and think the fishbowl idea is amazing. It makes the process into more of a game and takes away some of the overwhelm. Looking forward to much more of the getting tidier journey. Cheers from Mel in Tasmania 😊x
I love your plan and if you do Flylady, she incorporates all of the decluttering that you need to do. What you do is you declutter for 15 minutes every day in whatever zone you are currently working on. It all adds up. She divides the house up into zones. The outdoor porches are included. The garage is not included, but there is one extra room where you could include the garage or if you have an office or something.
Thanks for sharing the video at the end of your video. Such an interesting history about the past.I always like learning something new. There was a bushfire in the Grampians National Park ( in the state of Victoria, Australia, which was started by a lightning strike on 16 December, now has burned more than 76,000 hectares. We had been in the area the day before and it was 47 degrees. It made the travel horrendous. Some parts of Australia are having issues with lots of rain and the other parts are in drought.
Loved seeing all the beautiful architecture! The fishbowl idea is excellent and “habit stacking” (pairing your drive immediately followed by a walk) is in excellent idea. I’m still not sure about Fly Lady. I tried it with kids and a job and it was just too much. Even retired I quit it again. Happy New Year🎉 Blessings from Texas!
Everyone is ready for the flylady especially if cluttered because she is all about getting you going and to keep going. The thing about flylady is creating routines and working on them until they become habits. Habits don't take up much conscious thought which means you get to a place where your home is tidy and clean without all the mental stress. I had already been decluttering, organising and cleaning years before I came across flylady in 2001 or 2002 , but it was her baby step method that taught me how to create routines and to keep going on a daily basis one step at a time until it just became easy. You can do it without flylady by creating your own routines if you find her a bit overwhelming. I stopped following her long ago but I have habits that maintain our home without much thought and way less stress. Anne, Australia

I would highly suggest you watch Dana k.White. She has some videos where she teaches a process called one hour better. The part I think would be beneficial for you is that if something doesn't have a home, you have to find a home for it right then and take it there immediately. And if the place you feel like it needs to go is too packed with things you need to get rid of something. When I use this method, It forces me to recognize when I'm stuffing things in shelves and also makes me define what goes where. I also agree with picking declutter areas out of a bowl. Super fun idea. Once a month, I think you could also do it with your daughter or husband. Your family loves playing games. And this would make decluttering game like. I think that starting Flylady is exactly where you should be and this is the perfect time of year to do so because if you enjoy RUclips and learning by watching she has tons of videos, there are 30 baby steps in the first one is shining your sink, which means before you go to bed every night you make sure your sink is perfectly empty and clean And you can go through the whole list of baby steps. There’s another thing she does which is the home blessing hour and if you’d like to follow along, you can do that with her on Monday mornings where you first change the sheets, and while those are in the wash, you do the rest of your chores, which take about an hour and this is not a meticulous cleaning time. In fact, she will say just vacuum, the middles don’t move the furniture and try to get all the nooks and crannies. This is just what we do on Mondays and then the nooks and crannies will get hit when we do our zone work. It’s really not as complicated as I’m making it sound. Haha
