I've met Joe Alessi several times, and heard him play live then and other times. Both he and Jörgen are incredible players, and you can't determine a "better," even were there a point to doing that. I like that Jörgen takes more chances with both tone and technique for a musical reason. Even if sometimes it isn't as polished as it could be, some of his phrases that have a slightly chipped note do more for me than some of Alessi's perfection.
It was the last day of the European Trombone Festival in Rotterdam, people really got pain in the hands and legs from all the standing ovations they already gave before this performance
My band have played this piece before. This is definitely challenging for both the band and the soloist. Obviously both the band and the soloist Jorgens are fantastic in the performance. Thanks for uploading this clip!
@nhaguyanh It's Slide Factory 2005, better known as the first version of the European Trombone Festival organised by the New Trombone Collective. The actual place is the Laurens Church in Rotterdam
i don't know what was so special about 7:19, but i read your comment and i was counting down to it, and i swear to god i shivered at exactly 7:19. I didn't find that part any better than the rest. freak coincidence probably
@joshfieldstbone Both are incredible, world-class players, and I couldn't even pick a personal favorite, let alone determine who is "better." Every player on every instrument on this planet has some things they do exceptionally well, and others that they need to work extra on just to prepare for a performance. No one (that I know) is equally good at every facet of their instrument.
You can order the solo trombone and piano edition for about 30€ from Kameleon editions (a division of Beriato who publish the full band version). Just google Kameleon Editions and you should find their website.
I think that the note that he plays there is just below a "High A" if you know what that is. So you can get up there really high but it is not easy that is for sure.
@tsukihikari34 There are two versions on iTunes. Joe Alessi "Joesph Alessi - Visions" is the album. Then there is a recording with AWESOME tone by "Dirk de Caluwe & Symphonic Wind Orchestra Conservatory Antwerp", although you have to buy the whole album for it. I suggest splurging for the album all things considered. There are also bootleg mp3s from "Joe Alessi - Sample CD for RCB Concert". I doubt there is an official CD for that particular recording though.
@ILickGlue Meh! You didn't get the joke... there are two dislikers, and I joked by saying that those two were Joe and Christian! Was meant to be funny, not literal facts. Sorry if I offended you.
True, except Trudel doesn't really play trombone professionally anymore...he's conducting now. Can't wait for Jorgen to record more solo CDs, though. He's really good.
@LucSch1988 Ok that may be true but, for trombone players, who's one of the musicians that is an idol for trombone? Ok I accept that I went a bit overboard but Alessi is seen as probably one or the best trombone player that has ever lived. No offense to this guy or Christian Lindberg. Alessi just plays the instrument in the most perfected tone and musically brilliant way, that I think cannot be prepared.
CrazyRobotsRock7 Au contraire, Alessi always sounds like he is playing fat-sounding cross between a baritone and euphonium, but not a trombone. And many of his slide technique/articulations are not trombone like either!
Listen to how well he plays @ 0:01-9:33
He sounds amazing. He seems to play with a lot of heart. He is probably the best trombonist I've heard play this piece.
Some people think he is the best trombonist in the world😉
I'm surprised the crowd didn't give him a standing ovation. He certainly deserved one. I'm astonished, it was amazing.

sin duda es uno de los grandes trombonistas de este tiempo bravo maestro de verdad muy bien
I still come back to this often
I like how it is a little faster than other soloists and ensembles do. Definitely makes a beautiful difference! That's just me though.
Bert Appermont never fails to impress :) I love his compositions and this is one of my favourite band songs
I want this solo so badly! Its my new favorite trombone solo
My band have played this piece before. This is definitely challenging for both the band and the soloist. Obviously both the band and the soloist Jorgens are fantastic in the performance. Thanks for uploading this clip!

太讚了!
I really need to stop finding amazing trombone solos. I need to pick one and now I have yet another to think about.
Pick a solo that's not famous and make a name for it as others have.
awesome trombone player!
fantastic

Where can I find this song to put on my iPod? I love it immensely :DD
Van Rijen is Great! Watch Mr. Marcos Flavio, from Brazil with Fames Concert Band
@rickwin13 Yes, it is Alex Schillings conducting.

@dumbo800 Ah, thank you so much!
of course yes
@ILickGlue I think it might have been the horn and trumpet player in the ensemble..
Lindberg and alessi saw this video...
ma q eres bo
The name is Colors, I played it also to accompany someone on his final exam.
im trying to find this song to play hopefully for my next years solo and ensemble but i cant find it atleast not below 100 dollars
I guess when you're playing that high and it could just be the sound of his horn. He plays on a courtois.
what and where is this place?
i like the part 5:16 most really really awesome:)
unbeilivebal
Same exact time here! Hmm.... Mind control?
Because it's actually a horn that played there
Is the trombone guy an 0:05 the euphonium prodigy David Childs?
What group is this?
Jörgen van Rijen. Solo trombonist of the royal concertbuilding orchestra. (free translation ^_^)
Its called "Colors" ha By "Bert Appermont"
im looking for this piece, does anybody know where do find it? if so can you please inbox me please !PLEASEEEE
thanks
theres a high E i think, or maybe an Eb =)
What is name of this concert please ?
"Colors for Trombone" by Bert Appermont
I want the sheet music if anyone has it.
too bad it's not complete... especially the third movement is a shame that it's been cut so severely.
How high does this go? Looks like it got to a high D
Whoops I was thinking of the fumble at :26. Didn't go back to check the time
Does anyone know what band this is? And where they are playing?
Is Colors for Trombone the original name of the song? :)
@xXZapZipXx What do you mean? :)
@trumpetoy30
who's your uncle then: christan Lindberg ?? lol ;-P
Why does he sound like a french horn at 0:34 ?
composer Bert Appermont
@ILickGlue Meh! You didn't get the joke... there are two dislikers, and I joked by saying that those two were Joe and Christian! Was meant to be funny, not literal facts. Sorry if I offended you.
the horn said MARIANN 0:27
It's definitely an E. Not too high. Or at least not as high as a "high A" would be. Haha.
True, except Trudel doesn't really play trombone professionally anymore...he's conducting now.
Can't wait for Jorgen to record more solo CDs, though. He's really good.
Yo what mouthpiece is he using?? It looks like a monette...
jorgen is the best....
Joe Alessi and Christian Lindberg dislikes in jealousy ..
@andy1273mk its an E
Who is this player?
i have the Alessi recording of this this guy has a little more tone color to it but Joe has a little better style
I am japanese.
I can't speak English.

Y O この動画がアップロードされてるということは何かしらDVDなどが出てるんでしょうかね
Great playing, as always... check this video out if you like trombone music: LUCERNE BONE CONNECTION - LIVE IN CONCERT 2013
That is actually not the case.
i see a LOT of empty chairs, and after this video i think its a huge fail from the people who live there
이곡은 요르겐이 젤 잘하는거같음

I think Alessi's is better, but this recording gets the second place.
