I never ran into Lagerfeld's brand of "shade"...but I dig how he conveys it. Basically, he's saying "go ahead dahling...you can ACT smart all you like...but Im still up here...and YOU are still down there"
A person who is good at one thing and dedicated to it is one of the best things that can happen to one and the world. Sadly that doesn’t always happen. Most of us think we are good at many things when in fact we are good at none.
I love this clip and I often quote Karl Kagerfeld on the distinction he draws between “fake intellectuals” and actual “dressmakers.” He could be quite unpleasant eg about other designers and “art directors” yet here he kindly doesn’t name those of whom he disapproves instead examples by name of those he holds in (good) esteem. He was himself apparently extraordinarily well read, making the comment here about dressmakers who present themselves as “philosophers” all the more powerful. (Rest in peace.)
He is not talking about Kanye. Kanye IS NOT trying to prove his intellectual worth through fashion. He has already proved it through his music. Kanye is expanding his vision into the fashion world. Lagerfeld is talking about Raf simons, Demna Gvasalia, Rick Owens…
nothing wrong with having deep thoughts. I think what KL was referring to is the fact that some designers act and behave in their craft and work as if they were intellectuals and artists, thus elevating their statuses. Whereas he thinks that philosophy is a discipline of its own that should be pursued professionally (university, writers etc..). The same way dressmaking is a discipline of its own as well...
I'm curious to know which designers are pretentious to know if they are any good haha Being pretentious is such an unpleasant way of spending your life
Its just a minutes interview for me, but also taught me something immensely. Say like,He‘s god like. He still makes me speachless,wow...R.I.P. Karl.
About fashion designers as fake intellectuals, he could not be more right
I love the eloquently way of saying the truth that he had, amazing

what a human being..True - dressmaking is dressmaking,
philosophy is philosophy.
. I love this man. He makes me laugh a lot. His brain was everything.

This reporter is perfect for this work. Just fabulous, I want to see her more

He was throwing shade at Rihanna, Beyonce, etc.
As we all do
As he should 😅
Was he really speaking about Andre Leon Talley at the end?
He’s talking about Azzadine Alaia! Azzadine famously said, “Karl L has never touched a pair of scissors!” But Azzedine is- IMO- better than Karl!
He was so funny
I hope I'm not a fake intellectual my brain just thinks deep thoughts its just wired that way

How annoying is this interviewer?? Nodding, fake frowning, fake laughing. I am surprised that Mr Lagerfeld was so accomodating.
I know - it's like a children's TV presenter! And what was up with the constant reaction shots of her exaggerated nodding?!
Please change "Michelle Prada" to Miuccia Prada in the subtitles, it's atrocious
Givanchy... I can't
0:36 Did he said "Miuccia Prada"?
Yes. Why?
I had a totally different perspective from him, I'm kinda impressed & glad at the same time.
Dany Dt
Dany Dt True talent recognizes true talent
Super
His most hated is YSL..his archenemy
When I go out in my car I see men and women in western outfits who are sad. Like a fashion show
Having divested intellectual capacity could have granted him a more expansive understanding to some of his controversial views.
Karl, Karl, Karl... and Karl, and Karl, annoying way of addressing your interviewee...
maybe she wants to show the audience that she can call him with his given name
I think shes a delight & he did also
I wonder what he thinks about martin margiela himself
I'm curious to know which designers are pretentious to know if they are any good haha
Being pretentious is such an unpleasant way of spending your life
bring it on Maria Grazia Chiuri
Raf Simons
There is no need for reaction shots. Her opinion on Lagerfelds view is irrelevant.
Lol, "the list is not that short"
Haha Karl was based
hahaha love
