      Not really. He's sheltered to the hilt. Life in college is the easiest time in the world. Everything is systematized/organized there. He is a lifelong student. He knows this business well. He reads a lot of books. You cannot learn more from books that you can get from life experience far away from school. I'm finished with school. I like to watch his channel thinking, omg, this guy has got to quit reading so damn much, and get out more. He is not experimental enough in his life. There that's my post-college thoughts.
      He just happens to be good at prioritizing his time. He is disciplined. He's simply projecting the culture that he exists within as a student, and he is monetizing all of it through RUclips. Good idea! He's capitalizing on his ideas, essentially selling lifestyle/guidance advice. If he is so after enlightenment and personal growth, he has got to get out of that environment where everything is the same cookie cutter culture. Once you're out of college, if you travel outside of any prosperous socioeconomic realm, you will go through culture shock like nothing else that will disillusion everything you think you "learned" in college. Jumping directly into life without an instruction book is the best thing ever for wiring your brain's creative side. It would be fun to see him do something wild on this channel. Anything out of his element would be interesting. Just waiting for that to happen, if it ever does.

    I'm in the second year of Information Engeneering, and at the beginning of this year it was hard to keep going. I can't even say for sure if was the University, or all the other things. But now, I see that was all of them, because they were unbalanced.
    Since then, I've been working on my organization, setting priorities, setting goals for my day, my week, my life. I started meditating and sharing my time with people that I really appreciate, I began to observe the beauty of the day by day, besides all the challenges that I had to deal with.
    Sleeping well, eating well, practicing exercises, studying, developing projects, sharing happiness with people.
    These things changed my life, in every possible way. And I'm really grateful for you Jhon, and all the other people that directly or indirectly helped me keep going and living my life as intense and happy that I'm capable to live.
    Evolve, be happy, peace ! 👊🤙

    Summary:
    1. Time management- Journal or google calendar, hour by hour schedule of the day along with to-dos and goals, at the end of the day write gratitude thought, google calendar for events.
    2. Priorities- Having a real sense of all your priorities, broad activities you spend time on and then decide their importance, make adjustments, dedicating a minimal amount of time and energy on less important priorities, allows you to be ok with a negative outcome on things you spend less time on but get comfortable with.
    3. Communication- Everyone involved in your life whether your friends, teachers, family want something from you (time, energy), effectively communicate, talk to people and tell them about your situation so hopefully the other side can understand us better, it is not a weakness.

      It actually makes sense. I think the message that he his trying to say is refraining yourself from being too fixated with school that you tend to neglect yourself and your social life, which both are important aspects in life. It shouldn't be prioritizing school, it should be prioritizing yourself as you do school.
      Currently having a hard time doing that. lmao

      Prabuddha Shrestha well I am focused on my academics and sleep around 6 hours a day but I’m not going to change it becuase it’s my priority to get good grades.Dont copy what he’s doing blindly,ask yourself do you really want to study less and get less marks?

    • @prabuddhashrestha
      @prabuddhashrestha 6 лет назад +25

      I think we both need to sit and think...does grades matter that much that we compromise our health?

    • @snowfox00
      @snowfox00 6 лет назад

      It seems like a good idea ^-^ Some people need more sleep than others by default, so don't beat yourself up because you get the sleep you need. When your body is well rested you might even find that you learn faster/better ^-^ School is important surely, but even as a top priority it shouldn't overwhelm you so much that you don't take care of yourself properly!

    • @snowfox00
      @snowfox00 6 лет назад +1

      You're right, one shouldn't adopt new behaviors without thinking them through a bit, to see it they fit them well. At the same time, health is not something you should compromise on for good grades, at least that's how I see it.
      Think about it, if you sleep well enough, you'll be rested and so you'll be able to learn faster and better. Then again, the amount of sleep people need differs from person to person, so you might be ok with sleeping that much, while for others it may be a very destructive thing to do.

    • @84lakshanab80
      @84lakshanab80 6 лет назад +1

      I'm on the same boat as you prepping for NEET. I started prioritising the most important things like sleep and mental health and spending less time on books (making those 6 hrs of work really efficient) now my grades have actually improved, I'm able stay alert and observent during class and I retain more stuff. Spending less hours doesn't necessarily mean bad grades just use them wisely and be focused. I made these changes because I realized that this bad cycle is never gonna stop. Even after I get a medical seat I have to work my ass off anyhow.

    The video was great. Awesome to have you back because you are an amazing inspiration. However as a disabled person(I walk with walking stick because there was a mistake made during surgery) I can't relate to some things that you say. It is much easier for a healthy person to do your university stuff, physical activities, social life etc. I do my best but sometimes the sadness of my situation overcomes me. I would like to ask you if you have any advice for me considering finding a balance between doing my best/hard work and also having a rest without becoming lazy. Also please keep up making your videos considering the topic of university and your personal growth because for a disabled guy like me it is one of the greatest inspirations I have in my life. Kind Regards!

    • @chrisbranton73
      @chrisbranton73 6 лет назад +10

      I'm very sorry for your situation. Although, I think you can still translate those things to priorities of your own. Maybe substitute physical activities for a stimulating brain activity like chess or pool, or do yoga or what can help preserve your health. John mentions a book he read called "The subtle art of not giving a F*ck" and I think you could find the main purpose of that book very interesting (quick, easy read too). I can't imagine how hard it must be going through what you are, as I am obviously very grateful and lucky to have a relatively healthy body, but everyone has their own individual problems and in the end it comes down to our views of these problems and our response to them.

    • @thejohnfish
      @thejohnfish  6 лет назад +37

      I’ve never had to deal with anything like that before and I’m so sorry that you do. That being said, it sounds like you’re being super self critical and maybe a bit neurotic about your situation. I can’t blame you, I get neurotic about mine for no reason. The key for me is to try to stay as closely tied to reality and the moment as possible. Don’t beat yourself up for not being able to work out: figure out how to apply your energy to something productive. And if you have no energy, rest. It’s not lazy if you need to rest, it’s normal and healthy. I think if you study and practice how to stay in the moment, it could be really beneficial to you.

    • @nuclear7382
      @nuclear7382 5 лет назад

      MrPresidente98 I very much agree with all the previous comments. Accept who you are and shape your goals according to yourself; don’t hold on to your previous life but see your difficulties as challenges. It all depends on your response to life’s circumstances. Wish you all the best.

      I struggled with this as well. The best thing I've found for me is to set many small goals. Say if I have a paper due in 3 weeks, I might make a specific goal to have a rough outline of the body and my research done by 2 weeks before the due date. You can even go more specific if it's a larger project and can set daily goals but the real key is holding yourself accountable and forcing yourself to do it. By the time your project is due you will have as a result spent more time on it which will hopefully mean a better outcome and it is less stressful than trying to finish it all last second. Hope this helps!

    There mught be some comments below the video that say against you. But anyway, I am with the majority of those who support you. The video about how you study really help me in my application season!! The communication and priority things are really motivated to me for they speak for me, who is trying to balance my application, social network, schoolwork, and the most important of all, mrelationship with my girlfriend and my family. I really need to have my priorities and do better at communication (to get empathy!). Though I think I need some time and effort to put the time management, setting priority, and communication into my real life, I will try my best.

    Could you explain in your thinking process what the difference between goals, and to-do's are in your notebook layout? Are your goals long lasting goals, or just goals for things that would be nice to do for the day. Based on some of the stuff I was able to make out visually in your goals from the video, it seems like it is the latter, of just being things that would be nice to do? Just curious what you do. I wanted to try out your planner process with my own daily routine. Thanks Mr. Fish! ~~D

    Came across your video and I'm just wondering -- did you ever face peer pressure or pressure from anyone else when you decided to de-prioritize something and the consequences came through? For example, when you decided to de-prioritize school, did you face any reactions / peer pressure regarding your falling grades? How did you manage that bit?

    I was a lazy student and now I'm on my last year of high school. I realized that what I'm doing is a waste so I nearly stop all of them and with a lot of doing your tips, I manage to catch up, but you know, my laziness consequences is still a consequences. I feel like I'm a stupid student even tho I'm sure I'm not that stupid if i study harder (I won Olympiad on biology at city branch, and I'm sure I can barely pass the national entrance, but yeah I failed cuz I'm lazy. bye bye to my golden ticket).
    And.. bang... my economic balance is messed up due to my father's death. So, if I wanted to get to college, I have to work (even tho I start RN, I still can't manage to earn money that much) or I have to get a scholarship. I can't really ask my mom for money, cuz shes struggling at the loan my father left. I wanted to study abroad, but the requirement is "outstanding performance at high school" and "excel in co-curricular", and I have neither of them. I just regret this a lot and blaming myself & the situation I'm currently in. I don't think I have enough time to catch up to the "outstanding" grade. Any suggestion, John? or anyone? Thank you.

    I never thought there would be more than some unitary construct describing intelligence across any array of cognitive tasks. It’s one of those ideas that died with my past. Teenagers today would think the ideas we had about intelligence in the early 90’s were rude. And so they were. And they were dream killers. My Int score was a lousy 12. Above average, but it’s still the kind of number you might like to increase.
