  • I've been at a disadvantage when it comes to fishing from the rocks. Today that comes to an end, we're now giving them big fish a run for their money. The bite was insanely HOT and we made them all count! I hope y'all enjoy this video!!!

    That 11ft. surf rod made all the difference in the world! I noticed that you were much more relaxed and seemed to really enjoy the fight without having to hold the rod over your head. Mark, that was some really nice bite after bite action that produced a really nice catch, the bull red was a bonus! I enjoyed every moment, take care and be safe!

      Thanks Christine! Having the right tool made all the difference in the world. Now I just need a proper sized reel and I’ll be completely set for this style of fishing. One brick at a time and I’ll get there.

    Long rod does the trick huh. Back in my day I made my surf rods out of Calcutta bamboo. I hand picked the blanks from various places around Freeport. I cut them to 14 to 16 ft. I used Penn Long Beach 65 reels. The old Penn never let me down in the surf and jettys. Enjoy you and your son's expeditions on my old stomping grounds.

      I've got 2 15 foot bamboo blanks. Been wondering how attach the eyes. And if I should wrap the whole blank and apply epoxy.

    • @brucebroussard1809
      @brucebroussard1809 Год назад +2

      @@johnmills972 First, you have to determine the diameter of your rod tip and buy the rod eye to fit. I used an epoxy to glue it to tip. Space the eyes evenly along the rod, securing them with invisible tape,then wrap them with nylon twine to permanently attach to rod. Spray the rod with a light coat of varnish to seal. This also seals the twine. I used automotive hose clamps to affix the reel. Good luck.

    what brought mme here was teh blue crabs!!! I love them so much! I cant wait until the season really hits good in the late summer earlly fall months!! The drum fishing is seasonal here too for conservation reasons. You guys are keeping babies unless you catch and release? They have ot be much bigger up here before we can keep the and only fish them after they have spawned. Plus they migrate here so we cant catch them year round. I dont know how that is down there in the gulf but it worries me to eat anything that comes out of it ,since the spill!? :>(
