Wife needs to know what sister-in-law is doing.
Good for him for asking what to do, and for knowing better, cause so many guys would be tempted to go through with what sister-in-law said.
I disagree with your approach within your suggestion. IF he tells her....then he should instruct the sister to tell or he gets all three together to tell. IF he doesn't tell....then he checks the sister and explains never to do this again due to detailed consequences. He has the receipts so he's covered either way. It's not hiding when your guiding or leading the relationship. Simply my thoughts.
