I knew I would be. Lakers were 3rd in the west but let's face reality, this series showed Pau gasol could no longer be the young gasol, Bynum was always injured and didn't care about coming back, lakers needed a pg badly, and no one else on the lakers could create a shot. All the west teams were just getting better while the lakers had no good draft picks, no bench, and old players

Deonta B While true, the Lakers did make the playoffs the next year. Kobe tore his Achilles a few games before the playoffs started. Had that not happened this would not have been his last playoff game.

Everyone thinks Phil Jackson is great because of Triangle, but Triangle just one thing. What makes Phil great is how he prepares his players mentally and spiritually before a game or actually the whole season until playoffs. If only David fucking Stern didn't veto the Chris Paul trade. I love Gasol so much, but getting CP3 that season would have really helped Kobe and the Lakers. Not only did we lose Odom in the process (cause he rightfully felt betrayed by the organization), but Gasol also felt mistreated. That trade also would have been much better for New Orleans. I'm pretty sure Dragic, Odom, Scola and Martin are a lot better than Eric Gordon, Kaman and Aminu

Gasol is great, but when Kobe scored 41 points and Lakers still lost with 10 points less, it tells everything. Kobe is the most disrespect legend who ever played basketball, if NBa wanted to trade Chris Paul in Lakers, Kobe would easily win one more title, maybe even in 2011 they would win, but definitely with Chris Paul they both would have realistic chance to beat Heat in 2012. Everyone can say what he want, there isn't more disrespect NBA player than Kobe, se should have won 2 more MVPs for sure, only he knew how he felt in 2006 when he made everything he could on the court and he still didn't win MVP.

Kevin Harlan mention during the broadcast, Kobe not having Fisher, Phil, and Lamar Odom. They were gone at that time, seeing Kobe score 42, carrying this team, without any help, reminds me of Magic in 1990, scoring 43 vs Suns in the playoffs, the lakers were missing Kareem. They didn't have anyone to throw the ball to in the post, to draw the double team, Mychal Thompson didn't have that type of game, and Vlade just learning the NBA life as a rookie foreigner, they just weren't Kareem, that's what Magic and the Lakers missed in 1990, and Phoenix just exploited the inside.

The fact that this was Kobe's final playoff game is unreal... he did everything he possibly could to keep the lakers alive in that series against an OKC team who was hungry and filled w/ youth compared to a Lakers team that was aging by the minute. Kobe's level of skill was on full display, he could only do so much... there's no denying that he didn't go down without a fight and this was a prime example of how Kobe continued to compete even if the odds were against him. OKC may have been the better team, but Kobe proved to be the best player on the floor in a loaded Western Conference.

If you watch Kobe closely in this game, he looks WAY more athletic than he did in some games earlier in the season. Turnaround jumpers, dunks, etc. Guess he turns it on big time in the playoffs. Especially an elimination game.

Bynum has never carried Kobe. When the Lakers won the championship in 2009 and 2010...Bynum in the playoffs averaged 6.3 pts in 2009 and 8.6 pts in 2010. Kobe shooting 6-24 in game 7 is just like Jordan shooting 5-19 in a close out game 6 versus the Sonics in the 1996 Finals. Kobe also had 15 rebounds...but I guess you didn't notice that.

@Stone Colds Kobe was playing defense while lebron was playing stats and begging everyone to play with him. Funny how you leave off 12 all defensive teams 9, 1st all defensive teams. When you play defense your stats don't look as good but you win championships. Defense wins championships in all sports

Phil NEVER retired in 2004 kid. Maybe it was before your time, but Phil called Kobe uncoachable, and had to leave the team.
Kobe shipped out Shaq and got rid of the coach, it's only recently that KB and Phil made up.
