  • Making the most of an unplanned week off work I packed up my bike and set off on the Trans Northern Trail to see what I could manage when it comes to off-road with all my bags and panniers.
This is day 5 started to get tired today from all the riding in the week and the last lane finished my energy levels off. I do love the challenge getting my bike through lanes that are a hard work.
Was very interesting to learn what I can manage with all my luggage on board.

Enjoyed that series very much, I recognised a lot of the more Northern parts. Now on my 'to-do' list so thanks for that.

I enjoyed this, thanks Charlie👍 you kept it honest, with good commentary throughout. I agree with your summary, yes it might be lighter without luggage although the trail terrain you were hitting was challenging at times and would probably had the same outcome. You kept positive and dealt with what ever was served 👌- thanks for sharing it👍

Totally agree about feeling the luggage, a couple of months ago, 3 of us on CRF300L's carrying full camping gear did the full main loop over 5 days, but not the smaller Eastern loop (which we are going back to do in a couple of weeks), and it took me at least a day and a half, and 3 crashes to get used to the back end swinging about 🙄That said, it truly is a stunning route, and I can't wait to go back to finish the last little bit. Keep the video's coming 👌

Yes it's beautiful up there. I would like to complete the other half of the route at some point.

Hi Charlie, Another great episode thanks, I thought the audio on these videos was good no wind noise while riding.
The last track would have been nasty if it was wet and the type of track soon makes you tired.
You make a good ambassador for ADV riders, stopping for the horses rounding up the livestock and making sure the cattle don't escape, Well done.
One quick question I hadn't noticed it until now, how useful do you find the little mirror on the handle bar?
    Ride safe.

Thank you, I try to be considerate to others on the tail.
I use it when take my big mirrors off it then gives me a little mirror to use. When I have my big mirrors on I never really use it. The idea was to have a little mirror set up for standing but in reality, it’s not quite at the right angle

      @@Adv_Charlie I like that idea, it's brilliant.
I have the Double Take mirrors like you which I find useful, one positioned for standing and the other sitting when doing trails. Stay Safe.

Just for info, I have the Doubletake small, bar-mounted mirrors, very handy. I found bicycle ones very similar on a weel-known auction site for about £3, rubber-band type mount. Use them on my enduro bike, cheap to replace if required.

      @@ktmtravels3727 that’s a good price mate.👍
I had to replace my Double Take ball mounts as they become misshaped due to over tightening and the summer heat. To their credit the Australian distributor replaced them free.
      Keep it upright 🏍️
