- The Bajo people of Southeast Asia have a deep connection with the marine environment. As descendants of sea nomads, they traditionally roamed the ocean to fish and trade, but today, most live in coastal villages or on stilts over the water.
This short film focuses on the Bajo of Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, highlighting their strong bond with the sea and the challenges small-scale fishing communities face. Impacted by overfishing, pollution, and biodiversity loss, they are struggling to survive.
In response, some have resorted to harmful fishing methods, putting the health of the reefs at risk and leaving their future in jeopardy.

Well done Rita
Really an amazing Documentary! That's a new motivation I need for my first documentary about fisherman in Cape Verde. It has been difficult to make this film, because I am the one doing it with a shortage of resources. I believe that what matters is the motivation and the desire to show the world how fishermen live. It is not easy, but the joy of how they live fills the soul.Hugs from Cape Verde 🇨🇻to you Rita and the entire Bajau team and family.
..i am a Northern Bornean and i know this tribe.. in my place, we called them, palauh aka bajau laut.. but i never know if they could also speak english apart from their own language and malay of course.. i don't know where they learn how to but it made me think that these people are upgrading their social skills - to international.. good for them since they - in my knowledge - don't have any nationality.. they are the people of the sea..
..a very good film and yes, it deserves to be awarded..
What an amazing documentary depicting the lives of the bajau! I also stayed in a bajo village in the togean island and have always been intrigued by their way of lives. The large scale overfishing by the commercial boats is ultimately driven by our consumer demand and lack of policy regulation for protecting the sea, and i completely understand why poverty would drive some of them to resort to such fishing methods in order to feed their families. Its sad to see the damage done to the reefs but it is of a much smaller scale compared to what all the other commercial boats are doing out there. Unfortunately there is no other alternative livelihood that the bajos can depend on, and hopefully more support can be given to provide an alternative while retaining their traditional bajau way of life
Great work ! Well done Rita !
Something in my heart crayng !!!
A beautiful and moving documentary thank you for your work. Respectful and tragic too, but so important. Please keep up your amazing work.
Thanks for this. Heartbreaking reality
this is a magnificent film, it should go viral, just to remind us what simple life is
Viral like COVID?🧐🤨
Simple life ????? Have you see all the documentary?
People with money will say it's simple life...
But in reality they live in a hard earned money... They have to go against the law .. just to put dinner on the table.
While the rich dine in a $200 dinner each.
I live in Asia.... I know how hard life is....
@ So.... you destroy your environment with poison and bombs to put food on the table? And your grand children's how they will provide?
Simple life? They’re dynamite fishing and killing reefs with cyanide. It’s sad for them and ocean. And all the sewage they put in the sea from their homes.
Woy yg +62 supportlah.. Cakep nih dokumenternya.

Beautiful story with stunning images...I live in Mauritius...let me know if you visit, I love doing documentaries
Thank you. How can we help the families subsidise the cost of their children's education, so they don't need to go fishing every day, especially with explosives.
Magnificent
Thank you

They used to migrate, resting the reef. Now sedentary. Plus technology
Money fucks everything
Better than good
How has this channel only got 326 subscribers!?
Greed & Ambition as in most all of mankind is his downfall..!
I say ;
Keep it Simple & Balanced and never take more than for today.
There will be a time in not to distant future...When They will only have their boats to eat.
How sad and tragic.
They kill all the sharks for their fins .
Absolutely disgusting people. They openly destroy their own future, and everything they touch. I have no sympathy for this.
to the video developer.
If you are a video maker be sure you know what you are doing.. people’s seen this is magnificent for them. But not the reality. Is better to believe an African hunter not the peoples make the sea dead
😭
