At last, a review that is actually about the guitar, how it plays and how it sounds rather than how fast the reviewer can play. Thanks for such an informative piece.
Well said. That really gets old quick....also, they rarely demo the guitar using just the neck pickup, with no distortion or overdrive, I mean, how can you evaluate a pickup with the gain on 11?!?
This is a very versatile guitar - particularly for players like me - who always feel the sweet spot is between a Strat and Tele but with a little extra mid push.
I have one in red blackish burst. Has a cool Harmony vibe with the sunburst and white tuner buttons. It's a fabulous guitar with ebony board and mahogany body. It quickly became one of my favorite guitars. Sounds great and allows me to get lots of cool sounds. Perfect mix of Fender and Gibson.
I have one just like this, and I love it! It's a mix of Fender and Gibson to me, unique sounding and classic looking. Run it through an amp with some gain, and enjoy!!
Love the sound of these mini-humbuckers. The perfect balance of girth and sparkle in a way that a PAF can't match. Sounds a lot like the Harmony mini-humbuckers. Would love for Fender to make these in some more vibrant custom colors and metallic or sparkle finishes. I'm very tempted.
Fender has obviously caught on to what players like Blake Mills are doing, dropping Teisco gold foil pickups into a Telecaster. There's a definite trend of gold foils making a comeback with some young players discovering guitarists like Ry Cooder for the first time.
Interesting specs, but not all new to Fender: I have a Squier Jim Root Tele, with mahogany body, 12" radius fingerboard and medium jumbo frets. Its sound is unmistakeably... Telecaster! I added a tone control and treble bleed circuit, and using these, can get close to Carlos Santana's early 70s tone. Anyway, I digress. Regardless of their appearance or authenticity, the "gold foil" pickups in the review guitar sound excellent, and still very much a Telecaster tone.
I believe it sounds Fendery mainly because of the scale length, and secondarily because of the bridge type. A Gibson 24.75" scale version with a tune-o-matic or wraparound bridge would sound pretty much identical to a Gibson.
This is the first proper review I’ve seen on the Gold Foil Tele. It sounds great! (Your playing is great too!) I’m a Tele player, have been for years, and this thing sounds like a Tele on steroids! Only change I’d make would be to add a middle pickup. Yeah, I know-they have a Jazzmaster with three Gold Foils, and it looks cool, but it’s got a Jazzzmaster vibrato, and I always have trouble with those things.
thanks for the review! question for you if you don't mind.. do you think it'd be easy for a luthier to change the saddles to the type that have 6 saddles, one for each sting? thanks in advance!
You would think that after all the thought that went into this tele , why didn’t they go the extra distance and put compensated barrels on the bridge ,
That is NOT a telecaster anymore. I'm not saying it's a bad guitar, but come on Fender I'm sure you've got someone in your organisation who could come up with a catchy new name and slightly different new body shape.
Great review. Nice looking guitar. I had an experience with another gold foil fender guitar. A Strat from their Rarities Collection. The “gold foil” came off the middle pick up. It was just gold paint on white plastic This was maybe my fault as I was not used to a middle pick up and my pick was hitting the pick up. I just wanted to buy another cover and be more careful about my playing. Anyway in talking with the Fender Rep he said I could not get another cover as they were made for that collection and there are none available ….. ha !!! The end of my Fender relationship. You want a great T style guitar buy an LsL. Want a great S style guitar .. buy an LsL. Lance will always do the right thing. You can’t buy that from Fender

@@kylecravens6501 Cheers!
It's got a real character to the tone. Quite different from any other tele in my view. It looks cool to

bonjour , est ce qu on peu faire sonner cette guitare avec des ton de jazz ? merci
Oui. It can play ANY genre.
@@guilletjean-jacques5107 Désolé, j'ai raté la question. Oui, il existe une large gamme de tons.
Right on! Got one last week and ot is the best sounding guitar I have ever heard.
I feel like I’d still want that traditional tele pup in the bridge but those goldfoils sound awesome.
They are.

Dual gold foil humbuckers are amazing, gear heads have know for awhile but these new cats have no clue
I buy every teisco ray I can
Lovely playing!

I was lucky to find one.just love it ,the neck is awesome and it's built like a tank. Pickups are more of a mini humbucker great tone
Great tone
Like it! Thanks for such a detailed, thoughtful review . . . classy.
Sounds great, bet that neck feels nice too!

@jfinester Ever thought of changing your amp ?
Funny, I thought about putting my p90 pick up in the middle...
Great review

Great tone! Are they Fender pickups?
You would think that after all the thought that went into this tele , why didn’t they go the extra distance and put compensated barrels on the bridge ,
Because brass barrels are vintage.
I wonder how much of that great tone is coming from the amp that you're playing through, just on the edge of break-up. What is it please?

That guitar!! Woof! and Wow! I done been hit by Sonny Liston!
Get it. It is unbelievable tones.
Cricket bat ! I love this guy !
“Its a little bit bright” thank f***ing god
From what I understand they’re just humbuckers with a fancy gold front.
Mini humbuckers, like on the Firebird.
So they aren't real gold foils then but mini humbuckers with gold foil covers? 🤔😐
Yup. Not traditional gold foil pickups.
Exactly! Thank God.
Good point

Yay another Buy more stuff video
Brass saddles 😱
Well I rather liked it 😃
"smoke one the strings"
Looks cool but the plastic tuners look a bit naff.
It is a rock solid tone machine. At least mine is.
i think they compliment the headstock, nice change from the ubiquitous
Me likey. It's spanky, but in a less 'wirey' way. 👍
I’d rather get the Harmony Silhouette
Silhouette has mini hbs not goldfoils. At least the version that came out a few years ago.
@@Gaslight.Guitar so does this
gold foil were crappy pickups in the 60's, usually on cheap Japanese guitars... microphonic... etc... and now we replicate it
Ah, but these merely look like the 60s gold foil pickups. Under the hood they're modern mini-humbuckers.
@ericajohnson7535 Lmao, sounds like you haven’t played a decent gold foil😂
A good gold foil pickup is something truly magical:
