“One foot out the door” was written by Eddie shortly after a particularly nasty domestic incident between the rocker and then wife, Valerie Bertinelli.
I cannot imagine what a blast it was when Eddie took his plexi on stage and started rippin' back in 70's. one of the meanest guitar sounds in the history of rock music
Aye Lmao Dude he wasn’t saying that Eddie was playing this specific song back then - He’s talking about his awesome tone in general and about how he’s been wowing audiences with it since the 1970s, imagining how cool it must’ve been when he was first out there on the scene.
Yeah, Eddie jumped into the fountain of youth and got a new body and hands. Amazing isn't it? Dude, this guy plays better than Eddie. Eddie was God back in the day, but now there are 2-5 million players out there better. Just like there are a million martial artists today that can beat Bruce Lee. It's called human progress bro. It doesn't mean Eddie sucks. It means Eddie was so good, he inspired players to practice harder and be better than him. Just like Bruce Lee did in MA. Once mankind stops trying to be better than the current top guy in "anything", we are DONE advancing as a species. Understand man?
Panama is such an awesome song, tons of room for putting your own style in. There's a lot of great covers on RUclips, and it's cool to see the subtle differences in how people play it
Wow! You sound like him and have the same guitar and everything! Now all you need to do is work on becoming a raging alcoholic and you will be all set!
pretty much by ear...never played it quite right but then got my hands on the isolated guitar track (was on RUclips at one time), and picked that apart to death...but yeah, by ear
I can never make that B-string dive bomb at the beginning sound right. Are you hitting a pinch harmonic on the open string? Or hitting the fat open E string at the same time?
When I first heard 2:28 and on, as a kid I knew I had to learn how to play this wonderful instrument. That was 18 years ago and it's been the best investment I've ever made.
At the end of the first pre-chorus I was thinking, "those ain't the right notes!" But when it came around again I realize I had been tricked - he did perfectly! Every nuance so right on. So much expression and color - this young man knows what he is doing!
This is literally the only cover of the song I've seen where the intro is correct like on the album (everyone else just repeats the same thing twice). Well done!
Great playing, great tone and very accurate to the original recording. I think he used a touch of chorus with a slow rate instead of the phaser but it still sounds kickass. This song shows Eddie was a great rhythm guitarist as well as an awesome lead player.
When you slide up and down the A string really fast a few times in a row all I can think of is how that would just shred the skin right off my finger with how rough those wound metal strings can be. Phenomenal playing.
I have to say, my Unchained relic by Meanstreet is my favorite guitar to play...right up there with my Ernie Ball MM EVH... I prefer it over the Charvel Art Series, Wolfgang Fender & Wolfgang Peavey...
I'm using a Line 6 Flextone II amp in this recording... got the backing track from guitar backing track (the site) ... I tried Amplitube recently and was disappointed that I could not get a good EVH tone with any of the amp models I tried...
That explains why I couldn't find the "Rectified" amp model on my Pocket POD which is based off the POD 2.0 bean. The same amp model(1994 Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Tremoverb combo) on the POD 2.0 and Pocket Pod is listed as "Treadplate". Definately the same amp model. I adjusted to his settings and it sounded great! Shows that the 20yr old Line 6 Pod 2.0 modeling technology still holds up well to todays standards. There is a Van Halen preset on the pocket pod called"Jump" based on the "Brit High Gain" model that I was using previously but this is much better..
I believe in all of you who are here! I am floored by how shook up I am at Eddie's passing. My Saturday mornings were filled with air guitar magic because of this great, fun, American band.
Healthy Fatima if you like this style check out a British player called Andy James who is incredible and had the same vibe. Be a cool new artist for you to listen to if you haven’t come across him already.
Red Oiler he’s not saying he didn’t do great, I think he just likes the tone better without the Phaser. Stop getting so defensive for someone you don’t even know 😂
I'm from Recife in Brazil South America I really like the guitar sound you're making Just another unbelievable vid. Boy you got it down!. Thx for sharing.!
My dad played old country music on acoustic guitars my entire childhood. I played a little bit but was never motivated to learn to play Conway Twitty...lol.....or even Johnny Cash. No 30 years later I keep listening to music from the 80's when I first really started liking music. VH is what I want to listen to and now I'm going to attempt to learn. A daunting task.
Great job, dude. You're shredding it! I also love hearing Dave's voice "out front" of the mix a little more. But I'm glad the original mix engineer buried all the "heavenly octave" background vocals in the pre-choruses and choruses. Those don't add to the track IMO. Great song, GREAT job!
it may be by ear..but you are certainly playing the right notes, and you got the technique too..ive been playin' this song for probably 20 years and you are surely playin' way better than me
Nice job, so many players don't get the nuances of Ed's rhythm playing, like banging away on the E string for fill. When you're the only guitar player in the band, to keep the sound full is an art. Ed, as always was a master at it.
I typed: 'Panama Van Halen Cover' and as soon as I saw the guitar in the thumbnail I knew this guy would be for real lol. Loved it!
Same!
Even has the cigarette burns on the guitar where Eddie used to park his cigarettes on the headstock.
Pretty much! R.I.P to a legend.
Literally same

RIP Eddie, Jump high leyenda...
Ehhhhh no...
@Compass_- stupid comment fr.
Let's celebrate by remembering Eddie's masterpieces
“One foot out the door” was written by Eddie shortly after a particularly nasty domestic incident between the rocker and then wife, Valerie Bertinelli.
You mean the entirety of their discography?
I cannot imagine what a blast it was when Eddie took his plexi on stage and started rippin' back in 70's. one of the meanest guitar sounds in the history of rock music
70’s? I’ll give you 3 guesses as to when 1984, the album this song is on, was released
Aye Lmao
Lol
@@ayelmao1224 Eddie began performing live way before 1984.

Lol "there are 5 million players out there better than Eddie Van Halen".
Where they at though?
Grover This guys much better even though it’s a cover. Of course if the student isn’t better than the teacher then the teacher has failed.
@@Boogyman4050 evh is the composee though. There will always be players but can they write.

2:12-3:00 that guitar solo and riff is godly. RIP Eddie. I get chills listening to that part everytime since he passed.
I've purchased lessons from this guys website. Worth every cent. RIP EVH.
RIP EVH 😭....he is my biggest inspiration 👍🙏❤️
I loved how clean you got the tone to be during the ‘yeah we’re running a little hot tonight’ breakdown, hella good
Is there Anyone else that loves the part after the solo or is it just me lol
I'm literally here to listen to that bridge because it popped into my head out of nowhere.
@@johngabriel1067 dude same during thst time

This is not a cover. This is just 100% legendary.

R.I.P. Eddie. He was one of the greatest guitar players of all time.
Absolutely love Panama’s riff and solo. My favourite riff of all time.
One of the greatest guitar songs ever. And you played it so well, I am sure even Eddie would be impressed.
When I first heard 2:28 and on, as a kid I knew I had to learn how to play this wonderful instrument. That was 18 years ago and it's been the best investment I've ever made.

Why do i here a phaser effect as he is playing this but it seems like it is turned all the way down for a slow phase
that's how Eddie got his tone
+Matt Ross good point
Matt Ross not on the 1984 album. And you really think a phaser gave Eddie his tone? Really?
Matt Ross HAHAHAHA yea fuckin right dude. Gtfo, Eddie didn't use a damn phaser.
Energy Man He used a phaser almost ALL the time!!!
Amazing I didn't even think it was physically possible to match Eddie Van Halen but you did it man!!!!! Great job!!!
