When I was in Music Theory in university Dr. Oxley played this for us with the instruction that we were to visually follow the notation. I just closed my eyes and listened. It was WAY beyond me at the time. Sill one of my favorite pieces of The Classical (i'm rather a primitivist). Beautiful execution. For me to attempt would TRULY be an execution....either BY me of the piece...or OF me by those tortured to hear my pathetic attempt. BRAVO!

Here is the most beautiful interpretation of Rachmaninoff's variation 18 performed with incredible precision and a lot of emotion very widely perceptible, to the point that the work only seems to last for a moment. Katalin, you are, for me, a pianist apart, and concerning this Rachmaninoff masterpiece, the closest interpretation to Rachmaninoff himself. Extraordinary!

Are you familiar with Joni Mitchell? She cited this as the first piece of music that moved her, as a little girl.
One of the greatest strengths of her generation of popular composers was classical training and inspiration.
A Bosendorfer. Great choice for the ivories. Very good interpretation. Valentia Lisitsa has more body but you have very good skills. My favorite is Olga Kerns 18th Variation played in 2021 with thr Dallas Symphony Orchestra. It's on RUclips. She plays it excruciatingly slow so every heart breaking note comes through, lingering in its sweet pain.
