It’s almost like if Maradona knew, if Argentina won the match with the hand goal only, everyone would say they didn’t deserve it and Maradona was a cheat so he had to go and score the greatest goal in history to show everyone who he really was

    The era
    The uneven pitches
The quality of the midfield to assist..either player….
    The vicious foul play…
I still give the slight edge…
    To DIEGO ARMANDO MARADONA

Believe it or not this was not maradonas peek. His peak was 1978 to 1984. The reason why he stood out in the 86 world cup is because he actually trained. Maradona in his regular team rarely went to training. Imagine him playing on todays billiard tables with solid training no drugs etc he would be even better. He still is the best there is by a huge distance no one comes close. Not messi cr7 pele no one

Fenwick with the backpass to Shilton😂😂😂😂😂😂 Fenwick was absolutely clueless in that sequence! He hardly even knew he hit the ball.. Maradona did use his hand, but as the replay clearly shows even with his head he would have connected with the ball before a slow Shilton got there.. Anyways the brilliant initial play by Maradona(who else..) cried out for that to be a goal. And Maradona was brilliant through out the the whole match, got kicked and elbowed around but they just couldn’t stop. If the first goal would have been disallowed he would just have scored another.. He wasn’t going to be denied giving Argentina a two goal cushion. From that moment Argentina just stood low and handed England the initiative lurking for the fast counter break.. England wasn’t pushing argentina back anywhere as the commentator optimistically suggested. England though went at least a class up bringing Waddle and Barnes on.. But to little and to late.. And btw Lineker didn’t squander the second as he never connected wtih the ball. He lost the challenge to the argentinian defender.. At the very best England didn’t the deserve more than the single goal they got out of it.. And that clearly wasn’t enough to see them through! 3-1 would have been a result reflecting game better than 2-1 to be honest..

Oh for these days of football pundits who know the game and show balance. Emlyn and Terry discussing the game honestly, remember it from when I was 11. Argentina deserved the win, despite the hand goal, noting England didn't play until too late. Today it'd be all outrage, ref blaming, anger, threats....

One of the things that people often say is that England stumbled on its right team here..Its not true...England had qualified for the tourney well but the pre Mexico victories against the Soviet Union away (a major international team at the time) and Scotland, at Wembley showed together that Reid and Hoddle worked well together in the middle, Lineker and Beardsley up front, a flat back four with Hodge and Steven/Waddle raiding the flanks..Bobby started Mexico with Lineker and Hateley up front, Robson and Wilkins in midfield along with Waddle and Hod playing out on the right..In a sense he was too scared of leaving Robbo and Wilkins on the bench and that messed upon the team structure..England should have swept that first group as in 1982..

1:49:20 is the famous moment when the referee stood in the way of Hoddle's free kick. Not only did he miss the handball, he also acted as an extra defender for the Argentinians. After Hodge sold the shirt, the referee tried to capitalise by selling the ball. He got a few quid, but made himself out to be a proper clown when mentioning that he was responsible for Maradona's 2nd goal. 'I called "advantage, advantage"' he said, although where he found any fouls is anyone's guess. Dreadful performance: never refereed in the World Cup again.
