    My favorite pal when I first played the game

  • @jackjragon4445
    @jackjragon4445 3 дня назад +6

    I found a trick that allows the partner skill to boost unmounted attacks. This doesn’t work for all skills but it does work with DD1 and Dark Whisp with proper timing.
    When Shadowbeak’s attack comes out but hasnt hit anything yet, quickly mount Shadowbeak. This applies the Partner Skill to the unmounted attacks. Since this is the unmounted attacks the mounted Skills aren’t on cooldown.
    For Dark Whisp: if you mount too quickly with, the entire attack will be canceled (and I think it’ll be on cooldown) Wait till all the orbs are out then mount.
    For DD1, Use a Grappling Hook to get to SB quickly before the Orbs shoot. You can hold the mount button and roll if you did not land close enough to SB.
    I found this out when grinding tower bosses for my Army, lets me fight them w/o using much Ammo.
    Shadowbeak is my favorite Pal, it’s the first pal I perfectly breed up in my playthroughs.

    Wait shadowbeak does more damage with his divine disasters using musclehead rather than the elemental boosts if I understand correctly???

    • @mynamewastakin
      @mynamewastakin 3 дня назад +26

      Yes, since Shadowbeak has a 100% Dark Damage boost when mounted. 30% more attack from Musclehead is multiplied harder than an extra 30% more damage would be. This is because of diminishing returns from type specific damage boosts.
      An easy way to look at it is that while mounted Shadowbeak has 200% dark damage. 30% more is only a 15% damage increase on that. In order to double his damage again would take 400%, and 800% after that. These numbers are impossible to roll. So it's better to take 30% more attack which is then multiplied by 200%. Equating to a 60% attack boost.

      @@mynamewastakin I see thanks for the verydetailed response, I was thinking about making one with invader/siren but it seems like a complete waste now. I'm gonna have to rebreed my dark whisp alpha with musclehead instead of siren now. Are all mounted pals like this?

    • @mynamewastakin
      @mynamewastakin 3 дня назад +6

      @@ldeschamps6149 Not all mounted Pals gain the huge bonus damage, no. However, two notable ones are Frostallion and Frostallion Noct who both at max condense gain 100% Ice or 100% Dark Damage respectively. They have the bonus of changing the players attack type to their element as well while mounted.

    • @ldeschamps6149
      @ldeschamps6149 3 дня назад +2

      @@mynamewastakin Ok thank you you seem really knowledgeable so I hope you don't mind me asking you some more question like, are there any other strong pals like Shadowbeak with an obvious trap like this one that I should avoid that comes to your mind? Legend and demon god seems like the obvious choice along serinity but do you think I should use vampiric or musclehead if I have a full team that I will be switching for the fight? And lastly do you think it'ss worth it to breed alpha pals for the extra health or is it more detrimental with the larger hitbox?

    • @mynamewastakin
      @mynamewastakin 3 дня назад +5

      @@ldeschamps6149 Oh yeah, ask away my guy. I wouldn't really consider the mounted bonus a trap perse. It only applies to the Shadowbeak while it's mounted. If you were raising an army of Shadowbeaks you'd still want the %type bonus. Though Shadowbeak has a massive attack stat and does perfectly fine with all attack or %type boosts. Both Vampiric and Diamond Body are good on it. Vampiric should keep it beyond healthy in all content except Xenolord / Xenolord Ultra who it has an absolutely terrible match up against. Diamond Body is also rather strong on him. Shadowbeak has a massive defense stat, beating out Pals who're almost entirely defense focused like Warsect by 100s of points. The main problem with both of these is that the hardest content is on a timer. So swapping for Health/Defense/Sustainability could cost you precious seconds to minutes. Shadowbeak can statcheck pretty much everything in the game regardless of how you build him though.
      There actually aren't many Pals that increase their own damage and most of them are irrelevant such as Dinossom. Notable exceptions are Blazamut Ryu, Selyne, Jormuntide Ignis, and both Frostallions. All of these get a 100% damage bonus from being mounted. However, aside from the Frostallions and maybe Selyne. You won't be using these as mounts so you can build them for %type boosts. They work fine going full attack but are stronger by 10-15% with the %type boosts. It's mostly when they're mounted that the gigantic DPS loss happens due to diminishing returns.

    • @mynamewastakin
      @mynamewastakin 3 дня назад +7

      Legend, Musclehead, Demon God, Serenity are always the best traits for Shadowbeak specifically. %type damage boosts get heavy diminishing returns on Shadowbeak since his Pal skill adds 100% Dark Damage to his Dark attacks while mounted.

    Just asking regarding something that I'm wondering about and could only find conflicting information about online:
    Does Lullu's partner skill apply to Skill Fruit Orchards? If so (and I'm looking for a lot of skill fruits of a certain skill quickly), would it be better to go with like 2 Jormuntides/Faleris Aqua per orchard and rest of the slots with Lullu be better?
    I understand Lullu's passive stacks additively, but the difference could be significant enough to matter.

    So, something I'm wondering is why use serenity vs something like ferocious on Shadowbeak? You'd get 10% more damage and unless I'm misunderstanding the wording of the passive, the skill reduction only applies to skills like Knucklom's ability. Nyafia's shotgun and things like that. I don't think Shadowbeak has something like that.
