Never thought I'd see my interest in gaming and Stoicism crossover in such an inspirational way! Thank you for having such diverse guests on your podcast--Troy Baker is such an amazing human ♡
I am learning with this podcast that Ryan is also a left handed person! I started reading (and hearing) all your work as a writer and a parent myself, and it's joyful to keep seeing more things in common :) also, I am learning so much from this conversation! I got here thanks to today's newsletter
Exactly Richard, I think that's what a lot of people actually fear rather than death itself. We'll never know when we go - but it's important to endeavour to live a purposeful life.
Great meditation to start the day=] I love the power of creating your own internal scorecard and not letting yourself be compared to other's expectations and what other think that you should be doing better or what you have the credibility to talk about. I love the "systems thinking" example of Ryan's parents that were passed along to him from generations of the past.
And here I am just singing that song Ellie was singing from "Take on me", that part of the lyrics that said "slowly learning that life is okay." While thinking about stoicism
Wow, I fought to keep my step son from dying his hair green. Simply to keep kids from picking on him. This was completely informed from my horrible experience as someone “different” in school. A few years later he thanked me for stopping him, but his mom never came around and we’re divorced now. I don’t feel vindicated, I’m just glad he didn’t have to go through what I did.
No way!! My favorite video game character? I'm very lucky to find this. I've played the last of us more than 6 times and also played part two sadly joel dies ( i cried) but anyway here's a review 1 hour and half with the voice actor and the model for the cut scenes!😀 I'm watching this right now
If you keep in the forefront of your mind the fact that you can die at any moment, you will live every moment like it's your last. You will live what time you have to the fullest. You will savour every moment, find joy in every moment and will be much more discriminating about what is important and not important. There's a lot more to it, of course, but that is the core of it.
I have no wish to demean mr Baker but as a former dolly grip and someone who has been diagnosed with Asperger’s,adhd and giftedness I would like to comment on his profession. A movie/tv series is NOTHING without a very good dolly grip, actors miss marks dolly grips fix there f#ck up’s. Anytime you see the camera moving it’s normally a dolly grip drawing that line. I was the dolly grip on the avatar sequels and the latest lord of the rings,I had to leave society when I was diagnosed this year I turned 53 and my world was turned upside down. I love life and the ocean has been the only constant in my life now it feels like that’s all I have left. Being ignored by people has been very eye opening considering the time, effort and sacrifice that I have made over the last few decades but I don’t give a f#ck about them. I’m ok and that’s all that matters. Peace out.❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for your amazing contributions to the world of cinema, I really enjoyed the Avatar sequel and I'm sure you were a huge part of it. I wish you health.
Dude, right handed isn’t “normal”. Normal is whatever hand you use. I’m sure you know this. I think this harkens back to worrying about what people think.
Wow never thought I'd see Troy Baker on this channel!
I thought the same. thing. I knew he was into Stoicism.....but being here was a BIG surprise 😅

I’m not crying. You’re crying. This episode hit hard. 😭 The finality of death feels so permanent.
Thank you for replying, I have no fear of death I am scared of living a meaningless life.
