  • In this video I'm talking all about living books: why they're so important, how to recognize one, and where you can find them... PLUS real life examples of living books vs. not-so-living books (I start reading at 3:30) .
    Why Living Books??
Living books are the foundation of a Charlotte Mason education, but they should be the foundation of all educational methods. Science is showing that the mind deals best when information is wrapped up in a narrative; i.e. STORIES. History, geography, science, and even math is best learned from stories! And the best source of information wrapped up in a story is LIVING BOOKS. (This is an edited version from one I uploaded earlier)

Yes, it’s the best way to learn-that’s one reason why the Bible is filled with so many stories. Thank you for the living books resources!

I’d love some videos showing you book collection, sharing your favorites or things like that!

Oooh, that would be a fun ongoing series: "On My Bookshelves" (or something like that! haha). On my website I have booklists for each topic we've studied in school. So far I have quite a few history and geography lists. I think it's a great idea to make a video to go with each one talking about the books my boys and I enjoyed! Do you have certain subjects you want to hear about first?

Oh I’m excited to check out some of these authors. My FAVORITE resource for finding living books is Biblioguides. It’s not free, but absolutely worth it!! Which Joy Hakim books do you enjoy? I’ve read a couple of them and I didn’t enjoy her sarcastic style. My favorite is Millicent Selsam!
