Incredible to hear this modern piece played so beautifully on the ancient multi-stringed viola d’amore. Many extra colours I have not heard in a stringed instrument. It sounds so rich and soulful. Thank you

The viola d'amore is unkillable- it keeps returning, age after age after age. They're readily available these days from many luthiers. I just bought one myself after purchasing a treble viol and becoming addicted to it. Anything with sympathetic strings is enough to give a string player a permanent chubby. Before you remark on the number of strings to tune, try to notice that you're also listening to a piano. Don't forget that Hindemith was a viola player and was very much aware of both the viola d'amore and the 5-string viola pomposa, which likewise has stood the test of time.

Great instrument, but 14 strings to tune .... Some very novel sounds, too
