We used to do Nancy's line all the time. "Your sorry! OH HE'S SORRY!! HE'S SORRY!! HE'S SORRY! HE'S SORRY!!"
+Rafael Trivino MY ASS!
Lifeduringwartime
Is your ass on fire?
Rafael Trivino isn't that what she says after her i'm sorry rant? :P
Lifeduringwartime
Sorry about the other message I didnt know if it was someone being a dick. Anyways its been years since Ive seen it but I bet I can find the scene on RUclips.
Lifeduringwartime
I found the scene but it ends right after the guy falls out the window.
I love this movie, especially Fairuza Balk's Nancy character. Judging on how they're doing remakes, I'm afraid that they'll mess this one as well because I can't find another actress that can play Nancy as well as Fairuza did.
+Lamont Smith Miley Cyrus ?!?
Isabelle Fuhrman. Look at her role in Orphan.
How about Ksenia Solo? She played a similar role in the series "Lost Girl". And she looks a bit like her.
Or maybe Rooney Mara? Stunning actress!
+Lamont Smith She was a little *too* good. Sometimes I wonder if she was really acting.
ISABELLE FUHRMAN
Fairuza has that *born to be a troublemaker* look.
Absolutely. I feel there is a difference between typecasting and playing to your strengths/knowing what you’re good at. Take Jason Statham. He’s not winning an oscar anytime soon. He can act for sure, but rather than waste his time trying to fight typecasting, he went all in on what he’s good at. He knows what he is and he committed to it. He’s done a few more serious films like Butterfly, Homefront, and Wild Card, but he knows people want to see him kick ass. Same way with Fairuza. She knows she has a wild child look and she went head first because she knew what she was
Gorgeous woman.
Actually Nancy was the envoker of the East, Air and invention. Bonnie was South, fire and feeling.
teen witch's "top that" used in reference. my day is officially made
+bbybear712 :)
GoodBadFlicks And ironically, half of the Harry Potter films are only rated PG.
Fairuza is an actress I've grown to respect a great deal. She has a great sense of loyalty to the projects and directors she works with, like when she attempted to flee the Island of Dr. Moreau after they screwed Richard Stanley (and only returned because the studio threatened to sue her!- and even then, she continued to be very vocal about the injustice). I've known people who have met her in person and swear she's a beautiful soul, so if ever I get carte blanche to cast my movies one day, she can consider herself my leading lady.
+Cyril 100% agreed. With Stanley directing again, I'm hoping he casts her in something
Was in rehab with a guy who dated her in the 1990's and he had lots of stories about how cool she was.
@@calebdehart6651 Respects for doing rehab. I work in a hospital and I know what it takes to get a person to really commit and the strength and courage is nothing short of amazing.
I knew the MPAA was stupid, but seriously?
"Yeah, we know you followed all of our guidelines to the letter but we don't really like witchcraft, so... R rating for you because we're that petty"
Dark Arts Dabbler Even more ironic than the Teen Witch comparison is that four of the eight Harry Potter films are only rated PG, while the other half are PG-13.
Very probably someone who got his christian feelingzzz hurt. Reminding how much I hate religion.
Pretty sure it was run by mostly Christian moms.
I always thought Sarah's hairline looked weird. Like a wig! Now I know the truth :O
Yea it was kinda obvious but as a kid you wouldn't think it was a wig.
I just thought she had a weird forehead
What's even weirder is I always thought this character was played by Alicia Silverstone until I looked it up recently. Never even heard of Robin Tunney before.
You got the elements of Nancy and Bonnie backwards And this is actually central to their stories. Especially Bonnie’s.
Yeah not only is Bonnie covered in burns (fire) but Nancy at the end has gone insane and thinks she can fly (air)
The film-makers confirm Bonnie's element is Air and Nancy's element is Fire by the Behinds the scenes on the DVD. Bonnie has the element of the "seer" which is why she ends up predicting Sarah's arrival in the beginning of the film. She's also seen holding a bird (symbol of air) in the Invoking the spirit scene.
@@austinadams5109 just watch the scene when they call the corners. And they switched the animals around the group so that Nancy could play with the snake and cement the idea that she and Sarah are opposing forces (like water /fire and earth/air)wich they thought some viewers of the film would draw the conclusion that Sarah’s nightmares about snakes and bugs were here powers warning her about Nancy all along.
I wish theater owners would grow a set and start showing unrated movies that bypass the MPAA. That way the MPAA could fade away like the Comics Code Authority.
That would be great, but, unlike the comic book industry, there's a lot of money in the movie theater industry, and nobody involved in said industry wants to be risk being in the poor house.
Roy Phillips True dat.
Hollywood chose to be regulated by an organization of their choosing, the MPAA, to avoid government regulation. Take away the MPAA and you'll probably be saying hello to government regulation.
@@pixxelwizzard Probably not, actually, because government regulation on artistic works wouldn't withstand 1st Amendment challenges.
Apparently Clerks II almost went into theaters without a rating since they expected to be unable to get around an NC-17. But they somehow got an R without edits.
I love it when special effects are basically just stage magic with some really subtle CGI or stop motion thrown in. The Thing was just like that. I feel like you just can't do horror with computers.
Yeah, most horror films feature monsters/ghosts/demons/etc that people have to suspend disbelief for. So if the CGI is distractingly bad, it really hurts the film further as the creature or whatever is obviously fake.
One film that really suffered from this was White Noise... the end ghost scene was just goofy. And it was pretty scary up until then!
Slasher films have the benefit of being able to do more practical effects with less pressure to use CGI and the big bad is grounded in reality.
Absolutely love Fairuza.
Ha, indeed... she's quite enchanting, and she has the acting chops as well. You've provoked me to IMDB her to see what she's been up to. Cheers!
+grimcity me too, she's great and I've heard nothing but good things about her. (being just a super cool person in general)
+grimcity Fell for her when The Craft was on. Crazy homicidal and a witch, I didn't care! She was amazing in the film.
I can recommend Shame, Tollbooth, American Perfekt, American History X and Almost Famous
Surprised Sabrina the Teenage Witch didn't automatically have a TV-MA rating.
Galactic Specter I would watch the heck out that
Hopefully the new series does
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina does.
@@MildMisanthropeMaybeMassive It actually has a TV-14 rating.
The stuff that went on during the ceremony is pretty spooky itself. Imagine that, a horror story taking place during a horror movie.
stlouisrocker100 the ceremony thing was not so smart to do because its a real ceremony for witches, pegans etc they must not go to far i know its for the movie but these invoking Demons and shit you can think that you are doing it fake but afterwards you are calling them and they don’t know what fake calling and real calling is.
And the name Manon is actually a real Demons name maybe that’s why such weird things happened at the beach scene 🤔
These stupid Hollywood people love to play stupid games with demonic forces.
@@AbrahamBernard, it's amazing, everything you said is wrong.
The movie that started the series " Charmed " !
😮
I can't believe I've never seen Robbin Tunney in another movie.
I loved her acting in this film - subtle and almost monotone - completely believable for a wayward teenager.
Look up the movie "Monster Party" she's amazing in that.
I've been binge-watching your videos for the past week and I LOVE your channel. The in-depth research you put into your reviews is astounding and rivals that of even Cinemassacre.
Thank you so much! That's some high praise because I love Cinemassacre. :)
You described the what the remake for The Craft will be perfectly- 1)Copy and Paste, 2) Cast 4 "in" girls 3) Loads of CGI.
That describes so many of these remakes these days perfectly!
This is one of my guilty pleasures from the 90's. I had a long running crush on Rachel True.
I love it too. There's no guilt involved though. Scream is a guilty pleasure but not the craft.
Not a guilty pleasure, but just a flat out cult classic.
I just found you. My favorite movie channel now. Wow. Great stuff.
Thank you!
I read that its not going to be a remake, but a twenty-years-later thing, with the original cast returning.
OH THANK GOD.
This i really hope for!
NANI??? Even better!!
Not happening
thats cool
I absolutely love this movie! Watched it like a trillion times and I'm sure I'll watch it another trillion times :D Great video guys, thanks!
+bunnyX23 Thanks! (although, its just 1 guy doing these) :)
It's good enough for at least 5 so it's kinda right xD
CherryBerryXYZ I’ve watched this film a lot myself. I would put this movie on repeat in the DVD player during the weekend, and just let it play ALL DAY LONG while I do things around the house and stuff. Then, the next day, I’d do it all over again..! Lol! I don’t know what it is about this film-I just never get sick of it....🤗🔮
Man. The remakes just keep on coming. Good video. I like when you showcase the successes alongside the B movies, and flops, because it highlights how an idea, however outlandish it may be, can succeed when the studio lets the director, and everyone else involved, alone to realize his/her vision.
+Gabriel Subia Thanks!
I remember seeing this movie late at night on TNT and being very freaked out by it. The idea of people trying to invoke otherworldly forces is something that as an adult still makes a little nervous. Good video, man. Keep them hidden gems coming.
Fairuza played crazy unbelievably well.
GBF, thank you for being an internet reviewer who is constantly uploads cool new stuff. Your awesome!!
+Stage Lined Thank you! No, you are!
Awesome video! Very in-depth and I love your appreciation for the film. That line from Teen Witch at the end made me laugh out loud!
Thanks! Top that!
Skeet Ulrich is the poor man's Johnny Depp.
Speak it!
I thought they were related when I first saw him
Balk is one strange lady. Bizarre career too. Return to Oz used to scare the sh*t outta me.
+Logan Hedrich LOL yeah me too.
Logan Hedrich she was good in The WaterBoy
She is iconic and unique as fuk
Logan Hedrich omg that movie scared the shit out of me too!
I loved that movie
Great point that this is a 90s movie and it wont feel the same if remade today.
Great! I've been hoping you'd do "The Craft" for a while. Dug that movie back then.
Another great episode Cecil I'll most likely be re-visiting this film sometime next mouth btw one more thing about Fairuza after seeing that very last clip you added and seeing her tilt her sunglasses
and give that back smile I feel that she would've been a very perfect ''Harley Quinn'' if it was done back in the 90's IMHO!
This film is over twenty years old, and has people still talking about it, and loving it. This is when you know you have made a brilliant film, something people in Hollywood have not truly realised. Sometimes, a film is a hit, or a cult classic, because all the elements came together at the right place and time to make the cinema magic happen. Like with this film.
This film blew me away when I first watched it, and I still love it now. Sony was behind it, but they largely ignored it, allowing the film folks to get on with making a great little story, and the actors had the material to work some great performances.
This was a really good review of this film, and will have to see what others you have made, I guess.
I remember watching this and being freaked out by the snake and bug scene. This movie was awesome.
watching it right now. always been one of my faves.
I and my sister recently watched this movie together and loved it, and together we saw how much of an effect this movie has had on modern pop culture, especially Nancy's character.
Love these exploring videos, so many movies flew under the radar that I'm nor discovering
+Matthew Wood Thanks!
I have no doubts that you receive multiple amounts of requests to add movies to this series. I had some then I thought...these are so damn cool any movies Cecil chooses for this series I'm watching! Can't Thank You enough for the hard work.
+Jordan Amthor Thanks! Requests are always welcome!
I caught this movie on netflix after watching this video, and now i often use your channel as a reference to see some films, gotta be honest loved the film, something like i'd never seen before, and the 90's charm was perfect for the film, i hope its never remade
Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell, and Rachel True all four are excellent. 😀👍
I'm sorry, Teen Witch, but we will never be able to TOP THAT!
This is one of my most favourite movies ever!! Just everything about it is so wonderful. Yeah some of the effects are a bit naff now but I still love it for what it is.
First saw Fairuza in Return to Oz. She is a fascinating actress who seems to draw upon darkness.
I love this channel. Great work!
With all of the movies being turned into tv shows nowadays I think The Craft would be perfect for a series adaption instead of it being remade. Expand on the four girls, flesh some stuff out, cast great actresses and make an awesome show. I'd love it! Have the original girls back as moms or different characters. No charmed isn't the series version of the movie. Just a capitalization on witches that uses 3 sisters not 4 high school students. I loved this episode of Exploring! :)
+Tony Lehane Thanks!
I've been a bit obsessed with this movie ever since I first watched it! had to watch this video. :)
I love your videos and your exploring series, you're doing a great job !
+sly523 Thanks!
I love this movie! It's such a rare gem in horror and I love the aesthetic. I even used the invocation scene as a media example of Wicca in my World Religions class project in high school!
You are absolutely brilliant. I recommend GoodBadFlicks every time I get into a conversation about film analysis... which is often, because I'm a film major.
So many un-credentialed, so-called "critics" kind of jump on the actual critic bandwagon to throw unwarranted hate on movies and their posterboys/girls. Then they pour out their only truly energetic performance to beg their viewers to subscribe. "WHY WOULD I WANT TO DO THAT!?"
You shell out genuinely great material and expect your audience to come back or subscribe because they ACTUALLY liked it! I saw one Exploring video and I was yours.
There are so many great things I can say about your channel. (A few negative criticisms too.) But I fully believe that you will continue to do tremendous work. And I hope that you really can do this for a living someday.
+athoopes Thanks! Negative criticisms? I will hear none of it! (heh, totally joking :P) Glad you are enjoying the videos. I don't expect everyone to agree with me all the time, I just want to be entertaining and give some food for thought.
Well you were right about the "remake" being bad.
wow lol Teen Witch haha This was my favorite exploration. You nailed everything. Great job man.
i always assumed the R rating was because of the underage drinking, car accident death, or the love interest trying to rape the main character. The MPAA sure has some interesting guidelines...
The MPAA is nothing but an LA parents group, judging what they feel is APPROPRIATE for audiences. More jumped up little fussbudgets trying tell everyone how to live, because they think the rest of us aren't smart enough to do so. Remember, always think for yourself.
✌️&❤️
I think R rating is fair. I wouldn't want kids seeing suicide attempts etc
It might also have been because in the 1990's people were really trying to crack down on people under 17 commiting acts of violence, especially after the murder of James Bulger.
My favorite 90s teen film.
I fell in love with this movie after the first time seeing it as well. I loved Fairuza Balk in this movie u r totally right every time she comes onto a screen shoot she totally took the scene over and u can see the real passion that she had for this role and film. I can still watch it today and still feel the same way I have always felt about the film goosebumps intact. 😎
There was a full page article in the teen section of a newspaper celebrating the movie with images of Rochelle and bonnie freaking out at the mirror and Nancy at the asylum, when the movie came out
I'm in india and the article was in Hindi
Thank you for doing this! I really love this movie. :)
+Grace Doran Thanks for watching!
I just watched The Craft twice, last week. It was on TV, and then I watched on Netflix, the next day. Fuckin classic.
I met Faruzia Bulk @ Spooky Empire this past October in Orlando.
PS. I can't believe that I never noticed the 'mirror shot'!
"...tricky, tricky, tricky..." (to quote the fabgeous Nancy!)
This movie came out on my birthday and at that time I literally had just turned one year old!
I'm terrified of a remake but am hopeful they will add depth to the story.
You have the same misconception a lot of people do about the secondary characters Bonnie (Neve Campbell) and Rochelle (Rachel True), that they became power obsessed and turned on Sarah (Robin Tunney) almost thoughtlessly. A deleted scene kinda made it clear that they were concerned and sorta afraid of Nancy. (The Confrontation /watch?v=RwPFVX_E9io )
It elaborates on all that happened, and Fairuza gave a phenomenal performance as Nancy in basically threatening them into submission. There was also an extra scene where Sarah helped heal Bonnie, and added a lot of upsetting depth to the situation. I really wish they would've kept it. Bonnie and Rochelle deserved more of an arc, they were always sorta my secret favorties. If they made a remake I hope they'd kinda resolve some of those issues.
Awesome review you made of the craft is one of my favorite movie of all time of 90s.
The craft is my favorite witch movie. I watched that movie non stop as a youngin, just an amazing movie with amazing actors. It's truly an iconic movie and a huge part of pop culture.
I did know she was wearing a wig in the craft only from watching your Empire Records video 🤣 which another great video for a great movie btw as always when it comes to your videos especially the "exploring" series.
Flash forward 5 years to the future to the new "craft" movie and oof they messed that one up big time, same as they did with Black Christmas. LAME. and not even close to the OG's and just embarrassing to even share the same name as those movies. Really annoyed and so tired of Hollywood pulling that crap and not even attempting to do the film justice. Just whatever is trendy and can get people talking and waste their money on their horrid films the shit out.
What a great film, one that I grew up with. Think I may watch it later. 3 films I would love you to do - The Cell, Cube and Sunshine.
they didn't want to evoke any real deities
so they made one up
irony?
Not to witches.
Oh I got this on video cassette back in the day. Great movie I'd just had my first baby at 24. Great watching during nappy changes and feeds lol
Man!! I love watching your show.. Just started watching 2weeks ago..
Thanks!
Great Episode. Love this movie so much. No remake! Maybe they could do a movie with new girls that are obsessed with the legend of Nancy.
Now I know why it looked like she had a wig on, I've always wondered that. Thanks. 😂😂☺️
Mistake for you to fix: you swapped Bonnie's and Nancy's elements (made obvious when casting the circle to invoke the spirit, Nancy calls for the watchtowers of the East - of Air and Invention, while Bonnie calls for the watchtowers of the South - of Fire and Feeling. Also, Bonnie is originally covered in burn-type scars she tries to keep covered up [which is just as blatant as Rochelle representing water, so of course she's on the school diving team.])
I love your videos, so much interesting information about movies I saw once.
This is a good movie, another one that I saw as a teen, and I agree, very well done
All of this is great except for one thing: Nancy's element is air and Bonnie's is fire. Those are the ones they call in the invocation and that's why Bonnie has burn marks and Nancy uses air to kill Chris as well as all during the flying scenes, showing the hold she has over the other girls.
Sara was always my favorite so gentle with children sweet kind for a witch
I had no idea that the director for this was the same as the live action Nancy Drew! I looooved the live action Nancy back in the day
Teen Witch was just as awesome. Nice reference
Later after the movie someone apart of the film found a book randomly and the name was similar to the god they invoked in the movie. Not letter for letter, but similar. And, the storm during the ritual was real but happened after they filmed the ritual scene I think. (whoops just now got to the weather part.)
I find it interesting but also scary that in trying NOT to invoke a real deity they created a Fake one for the movie and YET they invoked someTHING.
This is one of my favorite movies.
In different countries, the titles of series and movies is often not just directly translated, but also adapted/tweaked for some reason, presumably mostly marketing/profit. In Brazil, both this movie and "charmed" went by the same title, "young witches." But perhaps the most shameless title rip-off that makes one wonder how come it never went to court was the 2000s tv series "what I like about you," which became "10 things I hate about you." I don't know what they did with the actual series that was either based on the movie, or a sequel to it.
i love Fairuza Balk in this movie , and all the others actresses, i would prefer a remastered or extended version of the original than a remake ... great movie . the essence of the 90's.
I have always loved this movie :) Used to watch it ALL the time
Awesome review!
I think the casting was pretty great specially Fairuza
lol, Teen Witch.. I re-watched it recently and forgot how much of a giant music video it was. So cheezy. "I. LIKE. BOYS!"
This isn't a "goodbadflick" this is a "goodgreatflick"....CLASSIC!!!
Definitely the best witchcraft movie ever! Loved this then and still love it now!
Me too
Faruza has come a long way since staring in her first role as Dorothy Gale in wizard of Oz 2, return to Oz.
Um actually? Just fyi...? It was Bonnie hailing to Watchtowers of the South, which were the powers of Fire and Feeling.
Rochelle was West - Water and Intuition,
Sarah was North - Mother and Earth (Mother Earth, Sarah being the most/really powerful).
Nancy was actually East with Air and Invention. 😜
great video! thanks for making these hope to see more stuff from you =) btw have you seen witchboard?
One of my favorite all time movies!!
during filming of the beach they had their consultant come on the beach and she said that the beach did not like Pagan rituals and they could only do the invocation scene and thats it
The shop owner is played by Argentinian actress Assumpta Serna. She played Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz in Yo la peor de todas (I the worst of all). If you haven’t seen the film, I recommend it!
noooo! no remakes please. not that it cant work but the original did it fine.
about time somebody reviewed this and went in depth as a fan .
hopefully the remake'll be 'decent' if anything but yea conceptually , the idea's not too hot .
please do Empire Records in the future ( even if you're not a big fan of it )
Please, please, PLEASE do a video on Little Witches! Love that movie!
It was actually Bonnie who was associated with fire, while Nancy was air.
I loved Nancy. She was awesome.
This is one of my favorites!
So funny cause the craft legacy comes out this Halloween
8:17 Well said Fairuza I've always enjoyed her in this film and even in ''Return to Oz'' and other films she's done a lot of good roles in her adult roles too plus I always felt she has very sexy eyes too.
