Hey Winston and C-Milk... a couple of things... First... that won't be a truck til you get it completely fixed up and take it rooting. hehe.... As someone who has owned several 4 wheel drive vehicles and worked for a parts supplier for heavy truck shops... I also urge you to add these maintenance things to your list. 1. change your transfer case fluid. 2. change differential lube and add some Lucas Engine Oil Extender with new lube 3. Make sure to have the 4 wheel drive components re-greased and checked. You definitely want to check the seals and bearings for signs of leaks. If any of the bearings so signs of leaks, don't wait, just replace them. That would be better than having a bearing fail and causing more major damage. There is no telling how much the grease may have degraded from that truck just sitting. It isn't good for a 4 wheel drive vehicle to sit for long periods of time. They should be driven in 4 wheel drive at least once a month to circulate grease and lube over the parts they protect. If anything was too dry or damaged, there was a good chance you would've heard that initially when you drove it..... however, that isn't always the case. Since you seem a little new to 4 wheel drive systems, from watching your first video on this truck, I just wanted to help make you aware of some things. 4. Make sure the driveshafts are re-greased and the grease-nipples are not damaged....also the U-joints. Now, it is possible that some of these do not have grease nipples because they are sealed completely and cannot be re-greased. That is would be unfortunate in that case, because you may not be able to get the full life out of them by being able to re-re-grease them as needed. So if that is the case, you will just have to keep an eye on them for signs that they have worn out. Assuming you do not hear any new 'sounds of distress'. I would recommend just making a visual check of the underside systems no more than every 2 weeks. Just a quick look to see if there are any signs of grease leakage or seepage indicating a leak. I also highly recommend using some Lucas Engine Oil extender in with the motor oil. Substitution 1 quart for 1 quart of oil each oil change. You will love that stuff. It is the best lubricant additive period. I use it in all the vehicle I have owned since I started using it in my diesel van nearly a decade ago. The quick story is I had a '97 GMC Savana 3500 with the 6.5 Diesel engine in it. I bought it with 168,000 miles on it, and it had 512,000 on it when I got rid of it. The engine and transmission were still fine, but I got my used out of the rest of that van. I loved it. Outside of normal maintenance stuff over time (a starter, alternations and other lesser types of maintenance repairs....) that van ran good. The rest of it was starting to go cause I used it a lot... especially for deliever of heavy truck parts. I hope you have luck with the steering pump sealer. I have tried different ones in the past, but when those lower seals go, I have yet to find anything that can stop them. It is just replacing fluid till the leak gets bad enough that you have to replace the pump. Good Luck with that. Hope you found this info helpful.... Tim
I did nearly the same thing with my truck a while back, except after spraying down the engine bay with degreaser I did just hose it off -- with one of those garden hose shower attachments. Left it to dry in the sun for a bit after and had no issues.

If the steering gearbox is only leaking from the pitman arm shaft just replace the shaft seals. Remove pitman arm, remove snap ring, put bucket under gear box, start engine and turn steering wheel until seals pop out, replace seals, reinstall snap ring and pitman arm.

I agree with your perspective on the hose coverings. The last owner probably had some hoses fail due to abrasion with one another or other objects (or mistook rodent damage for that), tired of paying the criminal Chrysler shop fees, didn't really know what he/she was doing but attempted to fix the problem the only way he/she knew how. Goes for the rest of the other stuff under the hood (or the "Bonnet" as the British likes to call it). Oh, P.S.- I never throw old shirts away, keep a big bag of rags always around.
Good job on that only thing wouldn't have removed is the mesh that was on the upper hose unless getting a new one it was to keep the hose from getting a hole in it off the pump

1) Nice truck-cleaning wristwatch. ;) 2) Looks like serpentine belt was too close to the heater hose. 3) Hope you got rid of that rat-turd-smearing rag! :)
That black weave on the radiator hose is the oem covering to save it from abrasion against the a/c pump...only the tie wraps were (incorrectly) added in an attempt to make it better. I wouldn't bother with the stop-leak p/s fluid...just get the $10 pitman shaft seal and install it on the vehicle.
The rats probably preferred chewing on the coolant hoses because the ethylene glycol in it tastes sweet. That's why it's important to keep antifreeze away from pets. They will love the sweet taste of it and if they drink enough will be poisoned by it.
If you have roden problems, disolve a bunch of cheyenne in hot water, let it cool, then spray it all over the wires and hoses. You just have to be careful in the future when you work on the engine.

8:45 - Yes, rodents love coolant, it's the glycol in the antifreeze, they think it's sugar.
An important point. Puddles of glycol on the pavement often attract animals, who can easily die from having licked up too much of it.

That expandable nylon cover was put on the large diameter intake coolant line by the factory. Most Chrysler products have them.
