Southpaws develop reflexes for conventional fighters because they fight them so often. Conventional fighters don't box southpaws as much and it causes a slight delay at times. It can get very awkward and frustrating at times.
Well said you obviously know boxing. There is a good strategy for a conventional boxer when facing a southpaw. This was not it. Felix just had a terrible trainer and team. He lost all the rounds yo. Kept eating up jabs
What people should understand is that this fight didn't go this way because Tito was somehow not smart, lacked skill, or had low ring IQ. This is just a demonstration of how great Winky's jab, guard, overall style, and execution was. His style and execution were impeccable. Tito fought almost as good of a fight as he was capable of against such an opponent. When you aren't able to land anything of significance consistently against your opponent, it can make you look like crap. Because Tito couldn't really land anything, he had to throw a lot more punches, and when you throw punches, and don't land them, you leave more openings for the opponent to get their shots off, and counter you as well, but you can't just sit there and allow the guy to outbox you either. That's what happened here. It really didn't matter what Tito did, there was no answer because of how focused, and clinical Winky was in this fight. That's why Tito's defense looked so suspect, although he really didn't do as bad as it looks if he was also landing punches. If Winky didn't have a great guard, and was taking some of Tito's shots, all of the sudden the punch count goes down slightly for Winky, the percentages of punches landed goes down, and his jab becomes harder to land. Winky nullified everything Tito attempted to throw at him. That's a testament to Winky Wright. He did the same thing to Mosley, Jermaine Taylor, and so many others. I don't remember anyone having a really good showing against Winky Wright, even if they somehow won a close decision in the eyes of the judges, and we all know the judges can't see everything that lands, or gets blocked.
I'm not a Trinidad fan and I sought out a fight when he was beaten. I noticed right off the bat that Trinidad was different.... appeared to have gained weight, grew untamed hair (I notice things like that) and seemed "out of it", unenthused and void of the hunger. What I witnessed was a great fighter who was satisfied with getting paid. Which I totally understand and support. Trinidad went the distance fighting clean. I'm not aware of what's transpired since his bout against De La Hoya (that win was De La Hoya's). I believe this bout was mainly about show casing Wright and what convinced me of the accuracy of my perception was listening to the announcers comments. Trinidad wasn't the "golden boy" any longer. From that fight, I can't deduce, from this fight, if Wright was a great fighter ✌🏻💖
WRIGHT WAS ALOT BETTER THAN MOST THOUGHT HE WAS, AND HIS STYLE MADE ALOT OF PEOPLE CALL HIM BORING, I KINDA SEE WHAT THEY MEAN IN A WAY, BECAUSE HE ALLOWS FIGHTERS TO GET OFF AND THEN HE BOXES BUT NOT EXCITEDLY, BUT THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT HE WAS TUFFER THAN MOST GAVE HIM CREDIT FOR, ONE OF THE BEST OF HIS ERA
I’d have loved to have seen Ike Quartey against Trinidad in late 90’s at 147. He had one of the best jabs at welterweight! But not as defensively sound as Wright, so could have been a real slugfest in later rounds!
If I was Tito I think I’d rather just be knocked out and be done with it. That would be more embarrassing than getting so completely schooled for 12 rounds like this. This fight was…. Pathetic…. For Tito. Embarrassingly bad. Winky just completely dominated nearly every second of this fight.
It's almost as if Winky loves the total, systematic demolition job. He doesn't seem to be interested in knocking this guy out. It's all cat and mouse game.
Well, that was a masterclass in jabbing. Shame to see Tito end his career that way but Winky totally deserved the decision. Did Tito's career come to a premature end because of his refusal to break from his dad and get a new trainer?
Tito was promoted by Don King and he was an exciting young power punching Peurto Rican. They was looking for the heir apparent to Wilfredo Gomez. They forgot to hone his boxing skills against great boxers. Also Winky is a southpaw which obviously was a huge factor here. Felix was confused and beat up
Larry Merchant is the reason for HBO demise dude was just bitter if u wasn't from overseas. He wanted super stars American fans want boxers that fight they was about business and fans saw right through it with the hype jobs they pushed
How in the hell can people watch this fight and think that Trinidad was ever any good. He was a big puncher who had ZERO boxing skill. Oscar De La Hoya was the first to expose him.
At this stage in his career Tito had no answers for a boxer more technically sound than him if you didn’t give him the opportunity to land a big shot he was done. He no longer knew how to win by decision.
Gotta be embarrassing to lose to a stiff jab from a man who moved up 2 weight classes to fight. Couldn't land at least 10 punches a round. Epic cullo whoop'n.

This was the end of Tito. Father Time comes for you early or late. In Tito's case, he came for him on this night. Gone was Tito's ability to glide and unleash punches, as he set his feet on a dime. His legs looked heavy and stiff. His jab, which was like a knife, wasn't there. NO lefty could risk jabbing Tito without the fear of Tito's searing left hook coming back. Tito couldn't get inside, because his reflexes were gone. Last, but not least, Tito's snap was gone. He couldn't hurt Winky. He knew it was time to go. Raymon Sanchez Wright would have destroyed ANY version of Trinidad. Contrary to popular belief, Trinidad’s technical skill level is not that good. He’s not Mayorga level but Tito always had trouble against good technical boxers. He got schooled by De La Hoya, Vargas, Hopkins, Wright and Jones due to their superior technique. Tito got lucky against De La Hoya who he actually lost to, judges gifted that victory to Tito. Tito was getting outclassed by Vargas but was fortunate enough that Vargas was easily goaded to exchange with him which is why he was able to knock Vargas out. But for fighters that know better not to exchange with Tito, he had no answer to that.

This is the first fight I've seen in years with only one tie up. I'll take this any day over a Hopkins tie up after every 3 punches.

Винки райт простой надежный как винтовка. Порядок бьет класс.
Once Tito moved up in weigh and fought with ppl his height it just wasn't the same anymore. His only legitimate win imo was against Fernando Vargas.
Joppy? Mayorga?
Tito was never the same after this fight
He was already past it a few fights before this fight
Trinidad use legal handwraps that night
Winky Wright wasn't playing
Winky whoop the Oil juices.from Trinidad. Curls. Yet winky never been a slouch.
WRIGHT WAS ALOT BETTER THAN MOST THOUGHT HE WAS, AND HIS STYLE MADE ALOT OF PEOPLE CALL HIM BORING, I KINDA SEE WHAT THEY MEAN IN A WAY, BECAUSE HE ALLOWS FIGHTERS TO GET OFF AND THEN HE BOXES BUT NOT EXCITEDLY, BUT THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT HE WAS TUFFER THAN MOST GAVE HIM CREDIT FOR, ONE OF THE BEST OF HIS ERA
to be fair it IS boring to just press the A button at the right times to win.....it's effective as fuck, but boring.
Throw back classic
now you know why the jab is the most effective punch in boxing...ha ha ha
I’d have loved to have seen Ike Quartey against Trinidad in late 90’s at 147.
He had one of the best jabs at welterweight! But not as defensively sound as Wright, so could have been a real slugfest in later rounds!
Ike would've KNOCKED HIM OUT
If I was Tito I think I’d rather just be knocked out and be done with it.
Felix was confused and beat up
My sons mother was in labor while this fight went on
Should have named the kid 'Winky' lol
Larry Merchant is the reason for HBO demise dude was just bitter if u wasn't from overseas. He wanted super stars American fans want boxers that fight they was about business and fans saw right through it with the hype jobs they pushed
Todo los boxeadores que peliaron con tito subían más pesados con 15 libras de diferencia
Winky right . The only fighter with evidence that Floyd ducked him
Floyd wasn’t even in the same weight class as winky so it makes sense why the fight never happened.
Golota punched Riddick Bowe repeatedly low, then when he fought Mike Tyson he ran scared and quit. Definition of a coward.
Golota kicked Bowe's ass twice. Bowe surely blessed him for his low blows.
Winky wright guard was very hard to get by
Destroyed Tito
Destroyed is hilarious, more like outboxed
Bring fight night back plz use to do wrk wid winky💯💯🚫🧢🐐🎮
24:00 Trinidad's camp never had a plan b 😂
I rooted for Tito here but he just was used as a punch bag LOL
Gotta be embarrassing to lose to a stiff jab from a man who moved up 2 weight classes to fight. Couldn't land at least 10 punches a round. Epic cullo whoop'n.
Winky only moved up 6 pounds
It was the jab and a pretty good defense from winky that beat tito.
Trinidad was a welterweight also
Titos father is not a good trainer he tells him get closer and tito is trying but he stays right in front of wright
Who you trained that's A champion? Video games don't count yell
@@box5bastard277
why is that relevant?
@@sabin97 because it's easy for dinner coach trainer to type someone isn't a good trainer when you ain't done shit yell
@@box5bastard277
"it's easy for dinner coach trainer to type someone isn't a good trainer "
it's easy for ANYONE with relatively healthy hands to type ANYTHING about ANYTHING. that's not in dispute at all.
"when you ain't done shit"
yeah. that goes to the essence of the question.
why does it matter if you have done shit or not?
arguments stand or fall on their own merits, not the merits of whomever said them.
i have never played basketball at a professional level. not even remotely close to that. and yet when i tell you jordan is the goat. my lack of ability doesnt make that statement false.
Tito should've fired his dad after Hopkins.
Winky Wright is a great!
Who here after busta rhymes touch it remix?
Tito make laterral movement then side to side job and upper cut why? You dont do that?!??
Im puertorican and i comfirm that tito skills were bad ...
How was Winky Wright so succesful? The guy hit like my Grandma and did nothing but paw jab? Fascinating
well combine his reach advantage, shield-like defense. and tito just coming at him in a stright line.....just press the A button when the opponent is in reach.....do that all night and you wish... no need to even move your boxer....
i wonder why tito didnt try circling to his left. that would mean he'd have to work more with his right hand, but it also would have prevented winky from abusing that super effective jab.......
but could have, should have, would have.....none real.....
sabin97 because Tito was actually a pretty limited fighter technical wise. Not Mayorga level bad but he will always lose to pure good technical fighters. He also had a bad mentality of being over reliant of his power. Just like the commentators said, he had no plan b in case his power didn’t give him the victory.
@@LightningBlaze03
he wasnt that much of a technical boxer, but he had such pinpoint accuracy and power that he didnt really need to be very technical.
anyway this fight was already in the sunset of his career.
are you seriously saying that NONE of his first 40 opponents was a pure good technical fighter?
not de lahooya?
david reid?
joppy?
campas?
camacho?
nobody? not a single one?
He was “successful” because he was selective in his opponents. When he was younger, he was defeated by guys like Vazquez, Vargas, and Simon because they outworked him with better punches. Winky couldn’t punch, so a quick work rate always beat his style of fight. Winky was a true 1 trick pony. Jabs and defense. He couldn’t do much else.
This version is Trinidad was easy for him. Tito was washed. Had he faced Tito in 1998, Tito sends him to a hospital.
@@jimmyjc2969 What's funny about your comment is that Winky Wright actually tried to fight Mayweather after this fight even though Mayweather was at 140.... What's even funnier is Mayweather actually agreed to fight him... Winky Wright turned the fight down because 45% wasn't enough
DR & PR
Thumbs up if PS4 needs a boxing game now!!
Tito was not that same fighter at 160 that he was at 154 and 147.
Wasn’t the same without that extra hand wrap
Qe paliza bien. Pegada.
Trinidad may be the most over-rated fighter in my time. He basically got shut out by both Hopkins and Winky; and he lost 8 out of 12 rounds to DLH by my account - and that is only because DLH cruised the late rounds.
You're thinking of Shane mosley. 1 close win over oscar then he got rekt by every elite guy he ever fought. Not to mention he admitted to ped use.
Oscar exposed tito...made him look ordinary... Bernard was just too big for tito
i saw tito lose against de la hoya......but i'm not one of the judges. they saw him win....in de la hoya's home turf.
i suspect that running away for 6 straight rounds tends to not be the best idea in boxing.....just saying....
sabin97 doesn’t matter if De La Hoya cruised in that fight. Trinidad clearly lost that fight. Backstage politics and corruption played a role in that horrible decision. Trinidad is a tad bit overrated though but he was always entertaining and exciting. Can’t say that he was willing to fight everyone though. He was scared of giving De La Hoya a rematch because he knew he didn’t win their fight and wasn’t going to take a fight that he knew he wouldn’t win.
@@LightningBlaze03
"doesn’t matter if De La Hoya cruised in that fight."
to nobodies like you and me, of course not.
to the judges it obviously did matter. otherwise they wouldnt have given tito the last half of the fight.
"Trinidad clearly lost that fight."
yeah. i saw him lose. but i'm not a judge. and the fight was close enough that i humbly accept the judgment of the professionals instead of claiming i know better or that they are crooks.
"Backstage politics and corruption played a role in that horrible decision. "
if you have any evidence of that, you should present it to the proper authorities so the crooks can be jailed.
otherwise you're just talking shit for the sake of talking shit.
"Can’t say that he was willing to fight everyone though"
i can. and i do. because he did fight everyone.
"He was scared of giving De La Hoya a rematch"
no.
he had a strict no-rematch policy. you get one chance. if you cant do it, too bad.
oscar had a good chance at winning, but he decided to run away half the fight.....he COULD have won if he only fought....but he chose not to.
he has nobody to blame but himself.
should have, could have, would have.....
Winky gano esa pelea facilmente
2 great fighters
Fernando Vargas beat Winky and Tito beat Vargas but lost to Winky 😂
Tito had little to no head movement. Winky moved his head for him.
My right ears getting jealous....
Flickering jab of mashiba..hahahahaha
Something about Tito was off this night. He didnt look in shape or strong at all. But hat off to Winky for doing his thing.
Well he was past his prime but still solid
Watching in 2024. Do you really listen to the announcer's comments? They're so fake news. They tend to reveal who the "golden boy" of the hour is. Thank goodness for the mute button
Tito wasn't going to fight a bunch of nobodies to pad his record. He only fought big names for big paydays. He took one more fight at MSG for a sweet payday, but his days were over after this fight.
Winky would've been knocked out by a 24 year old Trinidad within 6 rounds, if he just stood there and jabbed all night. Father Time beat Tito.
Thanks for the memories, Tito! You were one of the last GREAT stars who gave us all incredible fights. I think boxing misses you, campeon! Boxing has not been the same without you!
#TitoNation #TeamTito #TeamTrinidad #Tito
Weak excuse. When Tito destroy mayorga before he fought wright? Nobody say Tito was way past his prime or declining. Wright would've easily beat any version of Trinidad. Wright and hopkins easily beat Trinidad because they saw a blueprint of what oscar did to Tito in the first 8 out of 9 rounds.
LightningBlaze03 What? LMMFAO...Oscar RAN rounds 8-12. Vargas was MUMMIFIED, brain damaged, concussed and facial bones busted in their fight. That’s what you call “dominated” lol. You’re an idiot. Vargas wasn’t “goaded” in that fight. He was walked down and beat-up viciously. Hopkins was a nice fluke. Dude paid 3 million to Don King to get out of the mandatory, avoiding making 20+ million vs Tito part 2, to go fight about 4-5 scrubs instead. Winky would’ve been KO’ed by Trinidad when Tito was 25 and had that jackhammer quick jab and chopping right lead. By the time Winky met Tito, he was finished already at 32. LMAO @ ANYONE beating Tito with a FKN jab in Tito’s prime.
@@Danheron2 That fight was a slap-fest from Hopkins. He landed an average of 8 punches per round. If you think that’s “ass kicked systematically” you’re LOST, kid lmao
@@rayz7891 When you’re in your 30’s it goes in a blink of an eye. Tito lost it overnight and he decided it was time to go. Tito and Winky fight in their 20’s and Tito sends Winky to a hospital. Nobody could survive just jabbing Tito in his youth. His reflexes were too fast and he came over anyone’s jab with a right cross or left hook. Either would’ve made Winky put that BS jab in his back pocket. Winky was a 1 trick pony with a jab and nothing else. He caught Tito at the end of his career and got himself a BS win.
A estas alturas Tito daba lastima y así quería enfrentar a Chávez
I heard the talking, but Whitaker beat De La Hoya be did Stern and Quartey.
