The shaped were the suits of cards. Heart, spade, diamond, club. I used to sell dishes in a department store while I was in college and I learned so much. 💙🦋🌷
The Birmingham Museum of Art in Birmingham, Alabama, USA has the largest collection of 18th and 19th century Wedgewood out side of England. The Museum has a an entire room that was taken out of an 18th century English country House. I love Jasperware too.

Nice collection
Thank you
Oh this collection so cool! reminds of these glasses we had when I was a kid.🤗 My mom got them from my grandmother. They we a set of 6-8 glasses I think they called them high ball glasses back in the day. They were about %70 covered in this matte gray/purple paint with these white Grecian looking figures on it, the last quarter of the glass was left clear and then the top was rimmed with gold. My guess is that they were Wedgwood knock offs but they could have real? In fact once I was watching Mad Men and I saw them on an episode. That book is great! Oh that pink piece is so pretty I can see how you this got you started on collecting this china. And the jar with the dancing ladies love it! So much better for a beauty blender. And the pin dish matches so well. Ah the archival footage was great. Too bad about the load of paint. Glowing! 😂 Wow and even a big plater pot wow. You really do have a great collection. Big like 👍 and new friend here. Hope we can connect! 💕 😊
Thank you for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. I LOVE hearing stories, those glasses sounds beautiful. NEW SUBB to you too! 💕
The drinking glasses you mention are made by Jeannette Glass, American, and not expensive on eBay.
Hi Lauren!
I notice that this is from 2020. I hope you are still happily collecting.
Firstly- I gritted my teeth every time you put one piece down on another, with nothing between them to protect the decoration. Aaaargh!
Secondly- Josiah Wedgwood was the originator of this type of ware, and anything else is an imitation- but the imitation pieces are generally old- 19th century.
With 19th century ceramics, the date is significant. The period is often simply referred to as "Victorian" , but if in fact a piece is pre-Victorian, prior to 1837, then it is more valuable.
In the late 1960s and 1970s, into the early 1980s, there was a great boost in porcelain collecting, both of antiques and new pieces. The 1070s were a major period of Wedgwood production, and the majority of items that you pick up on e-bay and in second hand stores are likely to be from this period. This includes your three little dishes that are shaped like the card suites. It would be really nice to get a Diamond to go with your Heart, Spade and Club.
THirdly, the designs are based on Classical motifs from both Greek and Roman sources. A major source were the decorative friezes on Roman sarcophagi ( stone coffins) but also from wall paintings and pottery painting.
One single Roan artefact had more effect on Wedwood than any other. This was the Portland Vase, made of layers of blue and white glass, in the British Museum. You really need to know about the vase. Wedgwood made a copy in ceramics, and later, when the vase was smashed, his copy was used to reassemble the pieces.
Some of the motifs-
A single winged cherub with a quiver of arrows i Cupid the God of Love. H is also called Eros.
A chubby baby who is not cupid is a Putto, and if there s more than one, then they are Putti (pr Putty)
Cupid is sometimes shown with his MOther, Venus, Goddess of LOve, and sometimes shown sleeping. Girls would sneak up and try to steal one of his Golden Arrows to cham a lover. .....more later
Can you use the teapot with hot water?
Wow ur so cool!! How do you store your collection? Sorry if I missed it! Do you give a use to every one of your pieces?
Thank you so much. you are very kind!! nearly all my pieces I use for somthing, some are decorative. I haven't really got a special way of storage tbh. I must do an updated collection video I added my first Egyptian piece
great Video i also collect Wedgwood ... BUT may i suggest you move away from your back ground a couple of feet as it looks like its moving some times
Happy Xmas and even better new year and stay safe .... now we have the Christmas tree up and NOW have LOTS of great Wedgwood tree ornaments on it
Leave your darn hair alone.
