- This has been a project in the works over the past three years. This is my way of saying thank you to the Celeste team for making such an incredible game that changed my life for the better.
The hack is not meant to be a 1:1 recreation of Celeste, but more of a blend between it and Super Mario World. It combines standard kaizo mechanics with physics and design philosophies from Celeste, while still feeling like a Mario hack. Heavy inspiration is obviously taken from Celeste, though a lot of the hack includes my own design style which I found best combined the mechanics from the two games.
Easily over 1,000 hours went into the development of this hack. Between writing over 22,000 lines of assembly code myself, ripping and converting a bunch of the graphics, all the bug fixing and playtesting of code to make sure everything felt fluid, and of course all the level design, an unbelievable amount of effort was put into this. While there may only be nine exits (one for each chapter in Celeste), there are a combined total of over 120 checkpoints, with most including extra collectibles and secrets (notably in the form of strawberries, which even save to the console!)
I sincerely hope you enjoyed the trailer and hope you end up playing this when it comes out! This has been a massive undertaking and I hope you have as much fun playing this as I did making this.

It's been so cool to watch this project grow over the years. This hack is truly incredible and a wonderful game on it's own, blending Celeste and SMW Kaizo together perfectly while still standing on its own. Congrats on the impending release, can't wait to see others playing it!!

Ever since I played through the demo, even before that, I've looked forward to this release. So glad to see it coming, and so soon! Congrats on the hard work, it's finally paying off.
I find the demo hilarious since its effectively a tech showcase, but I appreciate the kind words nonetheless!

This comment is a response to the entire game post-release. I was watching a really good TAS run of it and had these thoughts:
I loved playing Celeste so much and I have been watching kaizo on an almost daily basis for years, so I really appreciate your work on this. It is excellently executed. You've truly created an experience that meshes most of the best gameplay elements of both games. It feels true to Celeste in an awesome way and it is such a fresh kaizo experience.
In my eyes, the biggest innovations that I hope this game imparts on the kaizo community are:
- Consistent chocolate theme throughout game (i.e., the Celeste dash is a persistent and integral chocolate element throughout the hack)
- Multilinear Kaizo level design (i.e., You can take one of many paths through the level, and the kaizo aspect of the design remains true for all paths)
- Long levels with major and minor checkpoints spaced generously throughout
- Escalating music in most levels
- Attention to environmental audio details (wind directionality, etc.)
- Some opportunity for exploration within levels

This seems incredible! I just learned of it and am so excited!
As someone who has beaten Celeste (Story mode, 80-90% of the B sides, I am not bragging. I am insane. Help.) And who's NEVER EVEN TRIED Kaiso in my life, this is switching between mildly hard, hard, and AAAH constantly.
I have played very little mario world romhacks in general, let alone kaizo ones, but I have played a lot of celeste and now I want to play this

This reminds me a lot of the Celeste demake for GBA. This one is probably better, but I wouldn't k ow cuz I haven't played it. I will try this sometime but I wished you played as madeline. Other than that, it looks amazing.
Not holding out for this, but any idea if this'd work on the SNES Classic? I'd love to play this using a SNES style controller and that's my only option currently.
This very much does NOT work on SNES Classic, and there is no way that I can make it compatible for it. Due to its shoddy emulation of saving, the collectibles this hack features makes it totally unusable. If you homebrew your system to run a different emulator then that might work, but beyond that it will not work. Sorry about that :(

Well this just looks f*****g amazing. SMW and Celeste are two of my GOATs, so I'm truly hyped for this. Always watched ROM hacks, but never played any, so this may be my first and I'm a little unsure how to go about it... maybe someone here could help? I have a SNES, SD2SNES ROM cart and PC etc but I bought the SNES SD card fully loaded off eBay, so have never actually added any content. Is there a decent guide anywhere which people would recommend in order to add hacks such as this? Many thanks and truly amazing effort coding this MarkAlarm - total respect.

I got the smc file but I can't find any mention of how to play it? Do I just put it in a snes emulator?
I am an excelente celeste player so when I saw this I was hype. But when I tried it, I was not able to pass the first room. (Have never played any Mario game) sadly this mod is for Mario pro player not for celeste player. But you did an amazing job. Congratulations. I love to see people playing this mod and I Will try to play for the first time super Mario world, in order to introduce myself Into Mario 2d Games.

Probably not, since at the end of the day these are all just Celeste songs. If the individual porters care to upload their work separately, so be it.
@@MarkAlarmTV understandable that it is left to the individual porters, although i feel like the romhacking scene for smw is missing out if these aren't uploaded

The reason Celeste is so awful is because it has no enemy AI or level design. Why you'd bring that to Mario World is beyond me.
