    One of the best reviews of the DL650. Had a white '17 and traded it for a Z900RS., so my brother could ride with me. He likes 4 bangers. I missed the DL so much, I bought a '22 650 Adventure. These bikes are so much fun. I agree with you on the styling. These are cool looking machines. Sitting next to the RS, I like it as well or more. Sad Suzuki will be replacing it. Heard of a Gen 1 with over 300k miles. Amazing!

    Spot on review 👍
    I got one, full option.
    I’m not the youngest driver, and this bike does it all for me.
    The handling is very good, and a little forgiving, the engine has sufficient power, without being scary. ( it can do a wheelie )
    It follows the traffic on the highway, and can be driven on a dirt road.
    Off road it’s too heavy, and you will be more happy with a 250 cross/off road bike.
    I’m a tall driver, and will need the footpecks down a little, when ever I find a strong solution.
    Otherwise I’m very happy with the bike.

    • @AirJarvis
      @AirJarvis 2 года назад +1

      @@TheArcticRider Comfy enough is a good way to put it. I added a top box and… added mini boards to replace the passenger foot pegs. 😃 The seat at the moment is the weak piece. We have traveled just over 300 miles in a day. That was pushing it for some sore rears. 150-200 miles in a day is much better on the butts.
      Have been looking into Corbin custom seats but the price is a bit steep. All in all, pretty comfy.

    Try sticking it on the stand and banging into second gear for 10 seconds and your abs should switch of and engine light will switch on. Stick it into 1st and rev it for 5 seconds and the light should switch off and abs will stay off while the bike is running... works for the older ones.

    Hey great review thanks for sharing! I was between this and the Tenere 700 but I think I’m going with the Suzuki because of the lower seat height and it’s a little less expensive than the Yamaha here in the US. Do you think the strom 650XT would be a good 2nd bike? I have my very first one ktm 390 adventure but want something slightly more powerful w/o being too big and heavy like an Africa twin..

    • @TheArcticRider
      @TheArcticRider  3 года назад +1

      The Tenere 700 is a lovely bike and if you're planning to do more off-roading its a better bet. The VStrom is great if you want to do a bit of everything. Its got plenty of power, even riding fully loaded. If you already have the 390 adventure, I think this would complement it well and give you a better 'on-road' option without breaking the bank. I hope that helps and thanks for the kind words! review of the VStrom 1050XT coming later this year.

    • @TheArcticRider
      @TheArcticRider  3 года назад

      Thanks. I've had no issues with the vibes.. I mean its a twin so I'm not going pretend there are none, but no issues for me on long rides. I had the 1000 back in 2018 also and did a 680mile day and the vibes weren't an issue. I hope that helps.

  • @jaywhoisit4863
    @jaywhoisit4863 4 года назад +2

    The 1000 and the 650 are 16kg difference. But the 1000 has inverted fully adjustable forks, IMU lean angle ABS, ten port fuel injection, slipper clutch, powerful tokico double disk brakes, and a pissload more power (if you ever need it)! The price I paid for a new one year old model was less than a current year 650. The 1000 is a far superior machine.

    • @MrBenHaynes
      @MrBenHaynes 3 года назад +1

      Depends on your wants and needs. I much prefer the lower, simpler, lighter more frugal (greater fuel range) of the 650.
      It has enough power for all duties and still makes the rider feel like he's part of the riding equation. Wee for me, no V. Cheers.

    • @tfhmobil
      @tfhmobil 3 года назад +1

      Where i live, the price was almost twice. As i had the money, i was looking at the 1000 too.
      But i took the 650 because it was enough for me, and still is.
      It has become my method of daily transportation. Small shopping, and most everything else.
      It's not a racer, but I still get a thrill if I want.
      Because of the situation, I never got to travel on the 650, but im sure it's reliabel enough, and it's fast enough for a comfortable ride on the highway, at least a full tank between stops.
      Im a very tall rider, and wish for lower footpegs, but havent found a solution, that i find strong and reliable enough. Maybe i just do myself.
      Adjustment of the frontbeam, and maybe harder rear springs, is other issues i address, but that has not really something to do with the bike itself, as that goes on any bike I ride.
      I've never ridden a bike before, that had antispin.
      I can say, i don't wana ride bikes without again.
      Even on a icy road, it works perfectly.
      Twice the bike walked sideways unexpected, and twice it was a relief, not having to scrape asphalt.
      Hopefully, the bike forgives me like that, in the future too.
      It's just a motorcycle, nothing more.
      This one gives me a feeling, having gotten what i paid for. ;-)

      What about economy.The new 1050 strom is heavier than 16 kg more than 650.

    • @jaywhoisit4863
      @jaywhoisit4863 2 года назад

      @@coconuciferanuts339 the new one is heavier because it comes standard with skid plate, crash bars etc. Things you would probably add anyways to either the 650 or 1000. Economy I get 23km/l on the highway and average about 18 in mixed (normal) everyday riding. It’s not great, but if I average 15,000km a year it’s about a thousand dollars a year in fuel. I can live with that because the reliability is so great nothing else except the basic service cost money.

    Maybe you can disable the abs by removing the fuse... I think it should be easy access... I never ride strom...I'm thinking of getting one maybe next year... What is your opinion on the engine vibration? Currently own Cb500x... The vibration is really noticeable at around 5k to 6k rpm... Kinda bothering me since that's my cruising speed... FYI the speed at the rpm is around 130 to 160 kmh

    • @TheArcticRider
      @TheArcticRider  4 года назад

      Kode Kun I’ve had no issue with vibes. I mean it’s a twin so it’s going to be a bit vibey compared to say an in-line-4. Cruising at those speeds I think you’ll be ok. I had a parallel twice 10 years ago and it was the same. I’d recommend a test ride on the VStrom for sure.
