      I don't use any sauce...just salt on the cooked french fries. I rarely eat french fries alone. I use them with some roast meat/chicken, fish whatever. I also like french fries and eggs sunny side up. I've just received the air fryer lid. I have an IP Ultra. I also have a Tefal air frier, which is easier to use as you don't have to turn food, but I don't like cleaning its paddle. And it's not good for breaded meat.

    I find a hack for making more fries at once!
    Put a nice amount of fries in the bottom of the instapot as shown. Then place the broil/ dehydrating tray on top and place more fries on that.
    I cooked at 400 degrees f for 25 mins. I flipped them at the 15 min mark. I tried this with wing dings and it was delicious. Same time and temperature.
    Oh yeah and to take the tray out to flip the food on the bottom I had to use two of my hand mixer beaters. I stuck the ends of them into the small holes of the tray, pulled back at a slight angle and pulled it up and out.

    Thanks for the video. I still don't understand why you cut the potato to cut the potato. Lol I think you could have just popped in there and cut them. I've never used grape seed oil. I wonder how crispy it comes out compared to peanut oil or vegetable oil. Also any time you are cooking potatoes.... if you rinse them or soak them in water they become less crunchy with all other methods of cooking (deep fry pan fry) I haven't air fried but I'm curious if you don't soak them are they too crunchy?

    • @NightTimeMommyReviews
      @NightTimeMommyReviews  4 года назад +2

      I cut the potato at the beginning to make it easier to cut in the french fry cut press. You can always use the potato without cutting it first, but because it doesn't have a flat surface you may need to use a bit more force to press the potato in, and cut. To use less force, you can cut as I did in the video :)
      In regards to the oil, I do not believe the type of oil would make a difference in crunchiness. I have made fries with both avocado and grapeseed oil, and they were both similar experiences.
      I have tried soaking and not soaking, and my experience is that when you soak the fries, and pat them dry afterwards, they are much crunchier than the non soaked fries. Hope this helps :) Thanks for watching.

    I love my instant pot. But this is an insanely convoluted and lengthy process to get a handful of good crispy fries. Cooking fries this way uses about 5 times more electricity than needed. Suggest just using a dedicated air fryer for this task. The fundamental flaw with using an instant pot to air fry is the distance from the heat to the food. Also, the cost of the air fryer lid is more than the instant pot and more than most dedicated air fryers on the market today. I don't doubt the results from instant pot air frying can be good. It's just far from the best tool for this job.

    • @NightTimeMommyReviews
      @NightTimeMommyReviews  4 года назад +4

      I agree, it is a lengthy process, and using a dedicated air fryer may be the way, but for some the instant pot is the only way they cook their meals. I know there are tons of people who live in a camper, dorm, or even rent a small room, and use their instant pot for everything. I don't think the air frying french fries in the lid is for everyone, but it was fun to experiment with the lid, and try something new. Thanks for watching :)

    • @NightTimeMommyReviews
      @NightTimeMommyReviews  4 года назад +1

      Hi Madeline :) For some food items it varies. For example chicken wings have alot of fat and do not necessarily need oil. In some cases, food will need oil to crisp up. With air fryers most of them advertise crisping for most foods with 1 - 2 tbsp of oil which is still great compared to deep frying in a large amount of oil. Without oil, the fries will come out similar to when baked. They wont have too much of a crisp to them.

      @@Resist4 When potatoes are peeled and sliced, they have an excess of starch on them (that liquid white stuff all over the potatoes). If the fries are not rinsed beforehand, the starch on the surface will prevent the moisture from evaporating. It's not that the fries will taste bad if you don't soak them in water, but they won't be as crispy. It will also help prevent them from sticking to each other. Some restaurants will actually boil the fries (not fully), which taste REALLY good - but who's got time for that... :) The temp of the oil is by far more important, but blanching them will turn out an even better fry.

    Just wanted to let you know that I did a search in DuckDuckGo for "instant pot air fryer recipes" and your video came up first. I've had my air fryer lid for 3-4 years now and never actually used it. This looks like a great recipe to start with. :)
