Hey thanks James!! This song came to me tonight in somewhat of a melancholy mood🎶 and I wanted to play along with the intro.. I've never learned the intro quite right and came upon your video..thanks for showing that cool intro! with the Pete Townshend Chord..👍 I always thought they played this intro with a 12-string? I got the opportunity to see America live about 4 years ago south of here at Paradise casino in North Dakota. It was really something 👍
Love this tune! It's so calm and enigmatic with those luscious chords. America and CSN probably wrote the greatest acoustic tracks overall. But I always play a C7 barre chord after the Gmaj7.
Got it. 5 chords. I like your switch. It sounds good and if it's comfortable for you then by all means jam it. It gives it more colour : ) I have a 12 string Crestwood and I've always started with an A minor on the 5th fret back to the third fret. And so on. I love the intro to this song! So simple! I can't believe it's taken me this long and your help to get it. It doesn't sound too shabby when it's played on any 12 string the way I do. It beats the C and G way any day. Thanks JJ ; )
Good stuff as always bro. Been working my way through America. Got A Horse with No Name, Sister Golden Hair, and Ventura Highway down. Approached this one hesitantly. Dewey and his damn two-chord songs. But well-explained. Gratis.
Beyond the chord voicings, the money on this tune is the bass line. Reminds me of the bass part for Devil Woman by Cliff Richard. The song wouldn't be half as cool without it.
thanks, a really nice way to play it, love your lessons. and love your martin! it's cool how we name chords, the pete townsend chord, the jimi chord, the melissa chord😂
Well crap, I've been playing that 2nd chord wrong. Never realized that other chord was a varient of the Cmajor 7, which sounds great with the open A string.....
Thanks. Didn’t you have an old video that taught this one? I thought those chords sounded good - couple of different ones here, also good - curious how you came about changing them up.
Great lesson How come you don’t have any Taylor guitars in your inventory? A lot of people like them and they seem to be pushing them at the retail level Keep on truckin
@@jamesjames9275 To me they seem too bright and don't provide the fullness of Gibson and Martin, which seem to be your go to guys. Thanks for your reply.
@@LaurenceWindy The 415 I had (I don't know if they make those any more) was a jumbo, with the back and sides made of some kind of African wood. It had tons of bass to it, almost too much. I really liked it, but in those days, I didn't keep guitars for very long before moving on to something else.
@@dr.hookyeah2883 Archie Bell and the Drells from Houston Texas ! I still play that song, It's such an easy song to play and sounds awesome (1e, 2b, 3g, 4d slide dwn to 6e, 7b, 8g, 9d) I even do the solo for the horn parts (9e, 6e, 7b, 5e, 4e, 7b, 4b, 6g & slide ring finger to 3g lay the other fingers down and keep going)
James James / Preivettricker still leave the best legacy on the internet!
I used to make snarky comments along time ago and I'm sorry. Such a great channel. Thanks for all the lessons.
Wonderful song. I remember i always liked it. I remember hearing it on the radio way back when i was a 7 year old kid in like 1974.
Thanks JJ, going to play this classic when I get home from lunch. Have a great day/evening mate cheers as always
Always check your channel when I'm stuck in the mud. Lol. Thanks again. Props
Love this song and the message in it
Always fun! Thanks for the info inspiration
This song has an Eerie sound, always loved it, Thanks
Love the Martin as a owner of one, sounds like no other. Thanks for all the posts.Learned a great deal over the years.
The voicing is the icing on the cake. Amazing as always in your way. ty.

This is one of my favorites
Thank you
So much clarity in ur playing
Nice job I didn’t think about it until you presented it ….I like it a Lot thank you sir !
Great lesson… Great song! Thanks James!
Gotta love those maj7 chords - getting three fingers into position is fine but that fourth finger takes some coaching. Thanks for this one!
Love this tune! It's so calm and enigmatic with those luscious chords. America and CSN probably wrote the greatest acoustic tracks overall.
But I always play a C7 barre chord after the Gmaj7.
Dude you are great because you show us cool ways to do things and you explain it so well.

Good one. Thanks for that!
Great job
Thanks bro
Thanks so much for the lesson. I’m going to practice, but I may need some of those Flutie Flakes to get this one right.
Great stuff... If you were to play the Cmaj7 on the third fret, you may find that voicing goes along better with the vocal melody.
so nice dude.
Great tune. George Martin. Always mysterious to me as a kid growing up. Who are these guys?
Nice! The first 2 chords are the same as Tighten Up by Archie Bell and the Drells 😁
A classic!
We wouldn't notice. After a couple of drinks around the campfire.
Well crap, I've been playing that 2nd chord wrong. Never realized that other chord was a varient of the Cmajor 7, which sounds great with the open A string.....
Sound like tighten up by Archie bell too.
I was thinking there was a cmaj7 in there somewhere...but maybe Ive been playing it wrong...
Get to “grips” 😂
Nice

Different voicings on the recording, so I figured I’d try a few different ways to play it.
@@jamesjames9275 Cool, makes sense. Thanks.

I had a Taylor 450 about 20 years ago, it was outstanding. But there are a lot of guitars I don't own.

Great breakdown. I'm learning so much from these vids. One thing, this is a bit too fast. As a drummer, I hear that. :) Thanks for all the content!
Funny you say that. I used a live version to tune to, and man, that version was truckin’!
@@jamesjames9275 I stand corrected! That is a super fast tempo.
It makes me think of tighten up

Great song....that major 7 chord was a bitch for me as well
I always played all of the chords in the open position with the 7ths. I'm not sure if anyone on the record does.
There are at least two guitars on the recording, maybe three. So you may be onto something.
Saw them years ago & there were 3 guitars thumpin away.
5th fret is Am9
And Cmaj7 if you leave out the open A string, correct?
James making 102k + people play better.
Hey ya’ll or hey all? I need to know!
