- To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause: there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life;
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of despised love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscover'd country from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all;
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pith and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry,
And lose the name of action. - Soft you now!
The fair Ophelia! Nymph, in thy orisons
Be all my sins remember'd. - Приколы
"...the one person you can't fool, is your mother."
Clever Monty Python team, very clever and subtle.
came here for help with my highschool english study of hamlet.... needless to say it was of immense help
The final gag is sooo far ahead of its time: an AI-powered psychiatrist computer, trained on faulty data, hovering from a drone, getting blown up by a nurse with a rocket launcher.
This sketch is from **1974.** 🤯
So that's why Hamlet's so screwed up...
"Ah, so it's all about sex, is it?"
Ladies and Gentleman, Dr. Freud meets Hamlet. (Interesting though how they identified them all as "bogus psychiatrists".) Brilliant!
And they didn’t even need to say his name once!
Shakespeare AND Monty Python RULE!
With the right teacher, Hamlet is absolutely incredible. There is tragedy, humor, horror, love, revenge, action, and a hilarious crazy prince. What is not to love? /:) It is all about have the right context and experience.
It’s got something for everybody. If you do it right, it’s a very funny black comedy and a great detective story to boot.
And later on, we'll be talking to a man who DOES gardening
Yes, very accurate indeed! Completely reminiscent of my own doctoral work in clinical psychology at UCLA. Monty Python never fails to succeed!
Making me laugh my ass off and taking me back to the seventies made this hilarious beyond control. Thank you for a quasi self-deprecating bit that makes psychiatric machinations bring at least a smile on all faces. Thanks Doc.
wonderful
Michael A. Giannelli the cuff links match , so i am bonafide..computers for the initial diagnosis
Genious humour
Dorothy Lin
I'm quite pleased to be of service, Ms. Lin. Now, Dorothy, please keep all of this hush, hush private! If word gets out that all of us "shrinks" are more daffy than our patients, this could result in mass cultural disorientation (and more importantly, to a major loss of $$$$ to our profession!).

Not to include establishing a bridge of trust with the patient. It would reduce transference and countertransference because of its similarity to speed dating.
I get it now. It's about theorists and critics who only analyse Hamlet from a sexual point of view.
One if my all time favorite Python sketches...brilliantly silly, from the scene of the car onwards. "I have a copy of Psychiatry Today in my bag, which I think is pretty convincing..."
LOVE. IT.
All I know about Hamlet I learned from this sketch and Hamlet Goes Business.
Carol Cleveland firing a bazooka=hot
Dr. Bruce Genuine
...LOL
I shall never trust a psychiatrist again.
So, you trusted them before?
Just goes to show that there were still some gems in that half-season without Cleese.
This has to be the first sktech in human history where tey got the connection between Hamlet, Skull and YORIK right - that alone makes this sketch unique
You got her legs up on the mantelpiece!
OUT!
So yeah, all you really need to know about Hamlet is in this sketch.
Thamel!
Little bit of marx brothers in there
This is like eating grapes whilst they are glued to the ceiling.
I like the way I came here expecting a sketch about Hamlet and it was almost entirely composed of nonsensical surrealist silliness.
Welcome to Monty Python, I suppose.
Daw, no wonder poor Ham's off his rocker.
* Comes in, tells you to scram off:
.
Yes, okay, you have both their legs up on the mantle piece...
Good comedy has several layers to it.
these guys were soooooo high...
Oh, I just LOVE them . They are the best !!!!!!
Yes, it is. Maybe you should string a few herrings from trees, then come back in and watch this again.
So you've got her legs up on the mantlepiece...
lol:-) Monty Python RULES:-D
Sir, I will not argue this point due to the fact that you are such a leader in the world of literature. You obviously must be one in order to dictate the literary canon. I can see why you are studying and most certainly not on RUclips. You are totally right about the Lion King too, man. I have no doubt that a Disney movie is better than a timeless work by the greatest inventor of our language.
LOL, this is one of my favorites
Magnificent!
getting the urge to put my legs up on the mantlepiece...
They have computers that give initial diagnoses, in some hospitals nowadays. How prophetic.
More accurate than a doctor, can even tell you your prognosis, prescribe treatment and even when your expected to push up the daisies!
Not Hamlet!
Thamel!
(insert Captain America "I understood that reference!" here)
genius
they all are indeed psych artist
i like the part in this episode where they are doing a scene from hamlet and ophelia stars saying the same thing as them
Connie Booth!
I find it ironic that Chapman played the most straight-laced characters on the show.
Yes and no, I am currently studying Hamlet and I find that if you don't pay attention to what they're saying and whos saying it, you can read three lines and have no idea what's up. Its not a matter of stupidity or laziness, its a matter of patience and with todays immidiate gratification, many people have trouble with taking the time to sit down and really think about what your reading and taking in.
Well, better this for Hamlet rather than Rocko with Dr. Ben Dover.
@ElderScrollsObliv Well, thank you for including the time in your comment, but I'm fairly sure we can find the end of the video without help.
Translation: It's Monty Python.
@katie shuck- good point :) and yes I do believe that's a big part of it. Best of luck with the study of it dear one :)
Ohmygod! ROFLOL!!!
Ah. Yes, well...... i WAS going to share this on my Facebook page, but uuuuuuh....well, er, the bit about the girl in the bed.......((ehem)). Still one of my favorite Python sketches!
He has MASSIVE feet!
@MrBandBProductions: I appreciate the contribution that Hamlet made to acting/entertainment field. However, it is very outdated. Let me give you this analogy: I can appreciate what the first ever telephone did for the world. Without the first ever telephone we wouldn't have the modern communication easiness that we have today. But, do we still use old style telephones? No! Every thing eventually progresses and becomes better. Hamlet and other theatrical productions are no different.
This final series of MPFC wasn't the same without John Cleese.
Yet there were many wonderful things in the fourth series
He's supposed to be strapped to the bed!
I am ready for my test.
I think I'm in need of some Nutella....
The computer sounds like LittleKuriboh. I wonder if he got his Marik-voice from here.
I can see why this never became a classic.
If the bogus psychiatrists are patients there, does that mean this borders on a literal “inmates running the asylum” situation?
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
Reminds me of Viz's Terry Fuckwitt
9 people aren't proper psychiatrists.
So f***ing true
4:35
Dalek Psychiatric Practice? O_O
This sketch did not at all go in the direction which I had expected from the premise.
Out! Out!
Now just wait one minute, just because you like Shakespeare does not mean the rest of the world likes Shakespeare. Where is the fucking rule book that says in order to appreciate art you must appreciate Shakespeare? Art changes with each generation.
Oedipus
Medea
Hamlet
John Proctor
Michael Corleone
Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader
What do these characters have in common? Tragedy, these characters are the same person only different name and face.
You have Hamlet I have The Godfather.
They made me read Romeo and Juliet and I got to tell you I would rather read it than watch it, from my perspective what has really driven me nuts about Shakespeare's works was the language at the time you understand for instants thou, hither, thee, thy and whencefore I understand it was a major thing at the time but in my opinion it just sounds ridiculous to me but don't mistake me for one of those people that is into the half-ass slang English most people are using today.
I'm guessing this is from Flying Circus?
3:33. Talk about having a double-life.
@moxie96 I think he looks like Robert DeNiro.
Ummm. LOL
Random as hell ending. 4:42
Was this series 4?
ok
The girl with the gun should by his psychiatrist.
Or they were all on drugs.
You must be new
I still thing Terry looks a great deal like keith moon
By Malliwi Rapesheake.
28 people want to hear the rest of the story
Are all the psychiatrists dirty minded?
I think it's a parody of Freud
DOGcity99 Oh. My mistake.
2:00
@ElderScrollsObliv Seems legit to me.
These guys were funnier on Second City Television.
This is the only season of the show I never really care much about. Don't think I've even finished watching it. No Cleese, no Python!
One viewer must be a psychiatrist...
..................peverted is all i can say...
What's that pathetic music at 00:13-00:23?
Yawnsville Central. Today they wouldn't get away with this boring stuff.
I your problem with the humour of a sexual nature?
First off, The Lion King was based off of Hamlet. And secondly, I would like to say as an actor, it makes me sad to know that the children of this generation have become so terribly stupid that great works like Shakespeare's plays are too difficult for your poorly educated minds to understand. But that is a rather unfair generalization. I suppose a more accurate statement would be that many people have become lazy and have simply lost the ability to appreciate true art.
No, it's just not a very good sketch. They have much better ones.
Steven Labute
Some of Python is great. This isn't.
Yes it is. But only to Shakespeare fans.
So not funny. What does this have to do with anything having to do with Hamlet. There was just the beginning part, and that was it.
+organboi you shouldn't be watching Monty Python if you have homework to do
Hamlet is very boring. I often wonder why schools still make kids read useless garbage like it. Besides, we don't even need Hamlet whatsoever anymore. We have something better: Lion King.
