  • Working primarily within a Romantic aesthetic influenced by Chopin, the cuban composer Ignacio Cervantes ( 1847-1905) abided by the Classical perfection of the binary form when composing most of his cuban dances. This is the form of "Los Tres Golpes" : thirty-two bars long, made up of two sixteen-bar sections, of which the first comprises a repeated eight-bar section. The first part is moderate in pace, the second more lively, as was usual in dance music.
There is an undoubtedly cuban sense of light and colour to the melodic-rhythmic and harmonic flow of this dance. It is one of my favorites because it reflects the local colour and humour of nineteenth-century Cuba.
    Enjoy!
