Nope, George lucas confirmed that Anakin IS the chosen one. He always was. Him joining the dark side to eliminate the Jedi created the great imbalance. But once returned to the light because of his son, he destroyed the Sith (himself and Palpatine) and this finally fulfilling the prophecy
When he says “well I should be, someday I will be” it’s so sad. I can hear the grief. And the crushing need to be able to stop death of a loved one. I imagine I would feel the same if I were him, all factors considered.
Real Goosebumps right here, what a character Anakin is, it’s a real shame what happened to him and in all he lost. Nevertheless, one of the best written characters in the cinematic world, and one of my favourites too.

I mean trying to save padme from death (even tho it wasn’t real since they were only visions but it’s not his fault that he got those visions) was also for the greater good because if padme died he knew he would inevitably turn to the dark side because of the grief.
