World's most comfortable motorcycle seat cushion.

- How I made the most comfortable seat cushion for my Harley motorcycle. I do long distance cross country rides and was tired of my butt getting sore. I tried the air cushions, the gel cushions, and the bead cushions. Then I discovered the purple seat cushion but they didn't make a motorcycle seat. So. I did my own.

My wife and I just completed a Southern California trip to Alaska on our 2015 BMW GS Adventure motorcycle. A 7,100-mile round trip that took 21 days to complete. We took your advice and bought the Purple Royal. I put it on my wife's seat and she loved it. Never once did she complain about her butt being tired, sore, or wanting to get off the motorcycle. She has mild back issues and never once did she mention her back wanting to give out or having any pain like other times. Amazing product, definitely recommend it! My only regret was that I should have bought one for myself.
Thank you for the idea! I always find it amazing when there is a lack of good product out there for things real riders would spend money on.
Being a larger man myself I trust your opinion on this. I had some foam pads that just flatten to the point of being useless. I've ordered the things to make one of these. Thanks so much for the video.
Did it help??
I was thinking about making one of these since the stock Harley seats are just a step above a rock
And a rock is two steps above a KTM.

Thank you Sir I rode over 4k miles this week! I just left it all together and rode from wv to sturgis sd saved my Keester!!
Thanks for posting. I just spent $1045 on a 2 piece Corbin with backrest. POS. First I heard nothing for 5 weeks. Then a guy called me and said it's gonna be 4 weeks to get them out. Then I settled for a non custom in stock seat. No backrest when the 2 piece seat showed up. Front seat did not fit without major alteration. To hell with Corbin.
I have tried many aftermarket seats, only to end up with a Pro Pad SuprCruzr Sheepskin cushion on top of a Harley Hammock seat as the most comfortable option for me. And should I buy a new bike, I can just take the Pro Pad and attach it to the new seat without shelling out good money for an aftermarket seat that will likely leave me disappointed in the seat, and the money I spent on it.
@@dh2392 I've been thinking bout sheepskin cover for quite some time. Thks for posting.
Thanks for the nice video. Be sure to update us on how it has worked for you. I'm looking at getting a 2018+ model Goldwing Tour DCT this coming late Spring/early Summer 2020. I'm already looking into replacement options for the $1000 stock seat upgrade. Ride safe.
Wow great idea! I have a Purple mattress and pillow and it's really difficult to get out of bed. It's so comfortable! I just wish the pillow was taller so I'm thinking of buying a second one to stack them.
Hey man love this, I have a blue collar bobber vstar 1100 and this makes life so much better!
Dude, you are my hero!!!🎉 New sub, for sure.
Thanks for amazing idea... I need it immediately so i took my office chair honeycomb silicone pad and tied it with rope on my royal Enfield himalyan. It is so comfortable i love it.
“So you won’t see the carnage that ensues...”. Awesome bruh!
I am actually trying something similar with a pad intended for horseback. It is a tad thinner and has holes in it. We shall see...can only get better than stock (after 45 minutes, I always feel like sitting on the plastic).
thank you for this its a great idea. i will probably go with the simply as its the same height but alot bigger. might even fit it inside
Wonderful job , Mate . Keep it up .
Thank you very much Sir will try it.
I bought a Purple cushion from them - it was a rectangle one for stadium seating & plopped it on my Honda CB1100 & it made a tremendous difference. However, I started getting a mild numb butt so I circled back to see what you did & found the correction I need to make.
The 2 separated pads like you have allow it to go under the sitting bones while giving the butt crack a place to settle down, separated from the butt cheeks, which I believe it the failure & true numbing point.
I did this and LOVE it!!!
Nice. I am looking into purple to see what they have.
I just bought a used FJR 1300 with a Sargent rock .. I mean seat on it .. My Airhawk from my other bike hasnt helped mucj
So I was considering doing this PLUS adding an inch of memory foam or convoluted foam .. thanks for the inspiration :)
Thanks for your video.
Thank you kind sir for the video.
this worked perfect for me...much better than an airhawk. thank you so much!
I found that the airhawk bought me 30 minutes of ride time for a total of 3 hours on a ktm duke 390. (Hard seat). How much ride time do you estimate this got you?
@@alastairtheduke Everyone's butt is different but I ride a 690 Enduro R and it also has a seat made of solid oak with crazy vibration to boot. But this fixed it for me and I had no problems anymore and could ride as long as I want, which is about 3 to 4 hours. I didn't modify mine at all either, just used it right as it comes. I love it and honestly I want to buy this man a beer for pointing me to the purple seat.
@@bananapie2198 which exact cushion did you get?
@@ItsKroov The Purple one in the video...doesn't look like they sell it anymore, but honestly I would buy a different style of them anyway like the Purple Simply Seat or maybe even the back cushion. Whatever fits the shape of your bike seat the best....the design is all similar. But yeah, absolutely amazing difference. 100% recommend.
@@bananapie2198 Alright just ordered one thanks!
I have a Purple car seat cushion since I spend so much time in my car. It’s wonderful! For motorcycle use, however, keep in mind that it will melt if it gets hot. They warn not to leave them in the car when it’s hot. I put mine in the trunk when I leave the car in hot weather. Your idea is great, but remember that potential issue. Put it in the pannier when not sitting on it.
Just don’t leave motorcycle outside 👍🏻
I have never had one break down while on a trip, but I don't leave the jell or pad directly in sunlight. I just throw it in the tour pack when I am stopping and leaving the bike in direct sunlight.
Good Job!

How are you layering the foam and purple pad? What if you have heated seats?
OK I did buy one of these ..and it is great .. but for the really long rides I put my air hawk on top of the purple .... now I have a new seat but or the longer rides the purple was / is still needed .. Will be riding from Seattle to orlando next year with the pad ( I have done this trip before and always have needed a pad on top of the seat )
I like the fact that I can remove it and change the feel. On long rides. I do change it up.
A way to cushion the blows that long range cruising can dish out.
It’s almost like riding on air with the new gel pad and no more sore ###! 😊
Love this idea! Question: I saw you made a few comments about the "Royal" being too thick for the "on top of the seat" pad and recommended using the "stadium" pad for that. If I was going to hollow the seat foam and install it under the seat cover, which thickness in inches / cushion would you recommend using? Thank you very much!
sorry for the delay. I have a Royal for home use, I personally think it would make me feel disconnected because of the thickness. but installing it make fix that.
respectfully, the Purple is not a gel, it is molded silicone. i have used a similar product to augment car seats and also wood kitchen chairs. it really is the most comfortable product ive used. he name of the product i use is the Egg Sitter. it was purchased at BB&B, but can be purchased online for about $25. it is a one_pieced sized silicone, honeycomb pad that is just big enuf to fit me on it(i am narrow). bigger people will want to modify two of them. fyi.. im 5'11", 185 lbs, athletic build. good video and thanks.
Thank you for the correction on the material. I am just a layman and called it jel.
I have a seat on my Roadmaster that sticks up a little to much in the front area near the tank and makes it uncomfortable in another area on the body near there. May be able to do something with this idea and see if the purple can help some how.
i've been looking at seat cushions and there was an air cushion that had a lower area along the center / midline, to leave room for man parts. i suspect this is ur issue. if i can find it again i'll leave u a note but i'd suggest checking out air cushions on line; perhaps u will come across it. good luck.
Tq ..for your great idea ....
Great solution, my FJR needs way too much stops because the butt is crying, wonder where to get the nicely formed durable bag to put the cushions in?
The carnage that insures! Yeah, I know, I got a redhead.
I am using purple cushions to make my own custom seats these days. a little high density base foam base with purple on top and then I can finish with some thin foam or layer it all up however I want based on the seat shape and fit. Can do a lot with it.
Don, what thickness purple are you using? I have thought about removing my seat, hollowing out some of the foam and inserting the purple cushion and redoing the seat. Now you would have it integrated in the stock seat.
@@Diverbelo I am making the seats from scratch and I do have some base foam with the "everywhere" purple cushion sunk in about 1/2" then seat foam around that and covered with a thin layer of foam over all. Of course the seats could be built many different ways with different layers and foams etc. Just make sure the purple cushion is in the proper booty position. Some of the other purple cushions are thicker and cost a few more bucks. I use the everywhere cushion so that I can still layer some base and cover foam without my seat being too high from the custom seat pan. Many stock bike seats are a lot thicker than what I make so they would have plenty of room for the thicker ones. I primarily make solo type seats for custom bikes.

Did you do a follow up review ?
I use an airhawk R large its fantastic
I have an Airhawk and the 2inch purple seat material is much much better.
Did you choose the everywhere cause it will fit the case from skoosh? At 1.2 inches, it still seems not as good as the royal at 2 inches, but i doubt 2 inched will fit. My passenger hates the harley fatboy seat.
that is correct. the royal is really too thick in my opinion. you still want to feel connected to the bike, not floating on it.
Thanks for the business idea! Ordered two from Purple. If they pass the "smell test", I'm installing under the cover on my 2003 Goldwing. If that passes the smell test, I'm IN BUSINESS!!

What did you use to thin down the one end? I bought the Royal purple cushion and the part where my legs overlap is too thick. It cuts off circulation and does not feel good. Thank you!
I bought the everywhere cushion. it is tapered. It comes attached designed to be folded.
I had a seat done for my Victory Vision a month ago @ Cycle Ops USA in Florida. It cost me 1100.00 Dollars using my stock seat base, had a custom cover made and had it built for me. Before I’d be squirming around in about 30-45 minutes, stopping in about an hour. Now I can run tank to tank without getting off or being in too much pain. I’m 6’5” tall with a 35” inseam and weight around 330 lbs. Will @ Cycle Ops USA asks for all the measurements and weights and builds the seat to fit you. Best money I’ve spent on a seat ever. Not trying to take away from thus mans video, just thought I’d share.
Love it, honest man in reference to how we husbands don’t won’t to piss the mrs off lol
Loved your video. Was interesting about the purple. Was wondering where in Florida you’re from. We’re east of Bradenton fl
We’re going to make a trip hopefully in August to Maine than over to Buffalo than up to Wisconsin than back. Went to Montana, North Dakota Wyoming etc last year. Really like to find out how that seat cushion feels. Be safe. Maybe see you on the road.

David, I have done two cross country trips FL to the west coast and I love the purple. The first trip. I just took it raw from it's cover and put it directly on the seat then thru a lambskin over the top. super comfortable. Your but fits in the honeycombs and does not compress like a gel, and you don't get that disconnected feel like an air filled cushion. the second trip was with the one I added the cover to and just placed it on the seat, I didn't need the strap. But again, the same feel, plus sometimes you want to change up and not use it so it was easy to take off and put in the trunk or behind wife's back. I find it best to change up your seat on cross country rides. This works great. The purple ultimate is the one that is the thinnest and I recommend it. The thick Royal purple is too thick and gives you a wobble feel. By the way, we are just south of Ocala FL.
Hi did you ever do that to a grasshopper backrest?
good to know. I wondered if these purples are good for that.
get the thinner on. I would think the full thick cushion would be too thick for the bike.
Just wondering if you ever put another video out after your trip making using your custom-made seats for comfort?
Unfortunately during the cross country trip, I ended up crashing the bike in a Mississippi cornfield. I was unable to pick up things myself and my seat cushion is probably still in that cornfield now. But until that time. The cushion was performing flawlessly. Thru 100degree days in Texas I could tell there was air under my butt and it didn't get hard or stick. I plan on redoing one, but maybe actually putting it inside the seat this time.
@@Diverbelo I hope you seriously wasn’t injured and have a speedy recovery. Thanks for the video
@@moonshinexxx420 Thank you, we recovered nicely. Few cracks in the neck, but we came through well. I am now in the market for another bike and I am sure I will be getting a tall boy seat and redoing another purple cushion. I may attempt to insert it directly in to the seat this time.
True rider !
Do you think it'd be worth putting in those gel pads back in that came out in the first place? Thanks.
I don't think so.
Hi. I want to make one of these cushions for my Harley. I found the purple cushion from their website. What did you use for your outer cover? The one you had the seamstress sew back together with the purple cushion in it?
I already had a seat cushion from Skoosh. I gutted it and use their cover.
Air Hawk makes a great cushion.
I’m considering this as an option: Just buy enough Purple seats to cover your entire motorcycle seat, then staple a new Vinyl seat cover over it eliminating the need to buy the skwoosh at all💁🏼
Good suggestion. I just had the Skwoosh already in hand.
Damn - Best review and idea I've seen went straight online to buy one to discover Purple don't ship to Spain. I wonder if anyone fancies helping me out with shipping? :)
Question: When you say your butt would get sore, was it your butt cheeks or your tailbone? The issue I'm having is that even after half an hour or so, my tailbone REALLY gets to hurting. It happens in a car too, but in a car I can sit on a cushion and it really helps. I'm looking for a cushion solution for my bike and yours is the first video I've looked at.
mostly it was my ass cheeks. I am one of those guys that has no ass at all, so my butt bone would sit hard on the seat. The purple honey comb design lets that bone get cradled.
did you tried the flat gel pads? Is this one better?
I am just going to DIY my own seat and would like to know which one is the best option
thanks
Yes, In my opinion, the flat gel pads just compress and you are then sitting on a hard surface. The gel does not expand quickly so you just are adding another of hardness under your butt. The cushion I gutted to insert the purple was a gel pad.
Video was awesome! If you survived the "carnage that ensued"and were able to take that next ride, w/ Covid and all, how did the new seat setup work??? Would love to hear.
We did take a ride in June 2020. We were planning a long loop thru the western states, but after 5 days of over Texas 100 degree heat, we turned north in New Mexico and did Utah, Colorado and thru S Dakota then back to Florida. The seat worked great. Since I put in the removable cushion, I could use it when needed, or not. It was good to change up on long tours. Where Covid was a problem was most of the fast foods were drive thru only. So we missed out on many places just having a place to cool off and get some shade.

what year r1 ? i have a 14 r1 hate the stock seats looking for something better
Rare Bullet I’m using a purple seat pad that I cut works great
@@R1carib, the same 1 as him?
How was this for air flow and keeping the sweat down?
It works great. The purple cushion is honeycomb and the cover is mesh.
Genius
Why not just attach mounting points to the purple seat cushion cover itself?
Like velcro or buckle straps.
the cover that comes with the cushion is very stretchable and flimsy and would not work trying to attach it to anything.
Great idea, but I don't think tthe purple material is going to react well to the heat and sun exposure...let us know how your trip tuns out and how the purple cushion handled the heat.
We headed out June 1 2020 and did some high heat in Texas and New Mexico looped north thru Utah, Sturgis then headed back to FL. The cushion performed fantastic, Easily taking some 300 plus mile days and no issue in the heat. However on June 27 we ended up on the side of the road upside down in in a Mississippi cornfield and the tow truck driver must have missed it or it got misplaced. SO the seat is gone. But during the 7000 miles trip. It did well enough that I will be doing another one once I get back on a new bike.

I am interested, I lost 130 lbs and I rode to Sturgis this last year and was hurting tail bone area. Made it to rapid City Harley and bought a wild ass seat the best they had $240 and it made no difference to me. On the way home I had to stop every 60 miles to get up and walk. I need a better seat or something to help me for long rides. Can't see me really trailering it already I'm 33 years old. Lol
this pad works .. or even buy a self inflating seat cushion that way with a twist of a valve you raise and lower the pressure cost about 20 $$
I recommend getting the purple stadium cushion it runs about $40 or so. Try it as is. and if it works, I would put it in a more sturdy mesh than the original case. Also, throwing a sheep skin over it really adds to the comfort.
Saddlemen seats are made of similar shit, but they are way more expensive. Its the whole seat tho and i think they are handmade
👍
Should've made and sold these yourself. They would sell well.
my nuts thank you sir!!!!!!!!
They are great to fart through as it passes through the honeycombs and doesnt push it back up against your balls while riding... or as some call it, a drum solo.
I can confirm that. 🤣
Somebody probably already said it, but you need to keep your Purple cushion out of hot sun - or it will take a set when you sit - Purple people said.
I can confirm it did ok this June including some 100 degree days thru Texas and New Mexico. We actually cut the trip short because of the heat in the south west and did not go into southern New Mexico and Arizona. Turned north in New Mexico to cooler weather.
I forgot to add, I was aware of the direct sunlight thing, so when I get off, I normally throw it in the pack or put something over it. The first year, I did just the cushion raw with no cover on it, but I did drape a sheep skin over it so the sunlight would not hit it at all. and sheepskin equals even more comfort.
please? Im not criticizing you or your opinion on your seat cushion at all. But I did the exact same thing with my cushion and It did NOTHING to stop my pain! I have tried every kind of cushion out there nearly from memory foam to gel pads to sheep skin to air bladders and they all were the same! I can only last for a MAX of 2 hours no matter what ive tried. I am to the point that I am convinced there is no hope.. So I just tough it our for as long as I can and when I can no longer stand the pain, I stop and get off the bike and rest. I hope that no one else has the same problem I have when it comes to riding. very miserable!!!
I put the purple cushion directly onto the seat on my V Star 1300 and for the first time in several years I rode 250 miles in comfort. I was sceptical but the 2 inch cushion works.
I have had Airhawks, Russell Daylong and Mustang seats and none of them worked as good as the purple material.
For jamesweber - Wow - i’ve had 2 Russel Day Longs and they were the best seats I ever had, as well as their backrest. I’ve had Mustangs and Sargent but only relieve the numbing for 90 min or so. RDL would last 3hrs appx till I had to stretch. I think the 2” would be tool tall so I was going to take a chance on the ‘simply’ version. Thoughts?

Too bad you can't just stick this gel in your seat permanently. The weather will destroy it quick
Maybe, but the cost was really low, and it held up through some plus 100-degree hot weather. I just put it in the tour pack when leaving the bike parked in the direct sun.
Just a heads up. Don't waste your time or money on a WingSoft seat. IT SUCKS.....

I just purchased the 1-1/4-inch thick Purple pad and cut it to fit in my AirHawk pad cover. Absolute failure!!! I sat on the purple pad inside my AirHawk cover and the purple pad gave zero support!!!! Recommendation to others - this purple pad experiment was a complete failure. I recommend not wasting your money on the purple pad as a replacement for the AirHawk bladder pad! I could have purchased a lot of sweet tea and BBQ with the money I just wasted on the purple pad.
