Small correction - if you have a 5 string, on the last 3 chords he also plays the low C# & C before moving to the Gmaj7 Other than that its spot on man thank you!
Dude you seem like a legend. It's refreshing to watch a video not littered with gimmicks and over produced bs. Liked and subscribed. Thanks for the tablature
Thanks for posting, I was figuring out the chords on guitar last night to sing with. This is really helpful and well explained. What a great track! Looking forward to this album
Hi Rachel. What chords did you come up with? I'd suggest: Bm G#m GMaj7 CMaj7 (CMaj9) Bm9 C#11 (use that same shape as the bass - 4th fret on A, D, and G) CMaj7 GMaj7.
@@dannyeddyguitar I was just playing the 3 note jazz chord voicings on an acoustic - Bm G#m Gmaj7 Cmaj7 - and am working on adapting your tutorial to play the arpeggiated part of the riff for the acoustic guitar
So cool! I was figuring out and had it ninety percent and you just hit that two tone simultaneous slide back and then the mysterious bar chord on c#like sus4,7 and yeah! You've nailed it down! So beautiful! Thanks a lot!
@@dannyeddyguitar Well you look like you're handling it and sounds great. I play keys so I love HK's work from that perspective, but as a musician I appreciate the full composition (drums, vocals, guitar), not just the keys. The bass gives the progression the life so thanks for sharing!
Love the lesson and the strap as well, for my first time on your page. Trying to get my hands on a new strap that actually fits me and supports the bass, and thought of that leather style. I'd love to support whomever makes the one you carry~
Thanks for your kind words Carl. That strap must be 30+ years old! Bought it when I wanted to be Randy Rhoads or Carlos Cavazo or Mick Mars or Ritchie or Eddie or Zakk or Vito Bratta or someone, as a kid!
Yeah it sounds very guitary. Paul Bender regularly plays a 6 string - which is basically a hybrid guitar/bass, so it makes it hard to tell. Incidentally, it would also mean the whole thing could be played further down the neck in a less difficult position.
@@dannyeddyguitar now that I've listened to it again closely its clear,it's just such a guitar-ee bass line lol, thanks again man look forward to your breakdowns in the future;)keep em coming!!
Thanks G Mos! I actually split my track into two and left one fairly clean with some compression, then processed the shit out of the other, with some overdrive, modulation (rotating cab emulation), and some Heavy chorus - but slow.
Ohhh, that's tough! I really don't know any easy way... You could attempt those two notes by playing the C at the 15th on A whilst simultaneously plucking the natural harmonic at the 17th fret on the E string. Or, you could try an artificial harmonic - whilst playing the C as described above, play an E note on the 14th fret of the D string but using your right hand 3rd finger to pluck the string as your RH 1st finger touches the string lightly - somewhere over the pickups - to achieve an E note one octave higher than the one your are fretting. Possible but realllllllly tricky
Thanks Andreas! There's a fair going on actually. I created this back when I was using Garageband. I used the 'Modern Stack' preset, but cranked the compression. Then I copied and pasted the recording onto another track with the 'British Invasion' electric guitar preset, which is based on a Vox AC30. This gave it that crunchy edge. Then I added a Tremolo effect with the Depth control all the way up to try and get some wobble in there.

Thanks mate I'm gonna have a go at this one today
Such a great song and bassline. They’re super creative with all their riffs but this one is especially catchy to me
Thanks again Arjun. Glad you're liking my channel!
I LOVE HIATUS KAIYOTE
Me too!
The main riff is so fun and rewarding. Thank you for this video, it's a huge help.
No problem!
Lovely video and thanks for the positive vibes during your brief lesson. I love Hiatus Kaiyote and I am thankful it lead me to your part of the web.
You're so welcome! Thanks for your kind words and welcome to my channel!

Other than that its spot on man thank you!
Thanks. Correct, that's a 7 fret stretch on my old 4 string though. Lol
Thanks, that's really helpful for my 5 string!
did the same thing as you. heard the song, it didn't stop playing in my head when the video did, and had to learn it
I'm so glad you've posted this!!
Happy to be of service Lynsey.

Thanks so much Leon. I really appreciate your words and support!
Sick! was looking for some direction for the chords so I can sing and play this one. Even better when its a bloke from Gippsland, Cheers fella!

liked and subscribed sir. i give up on trying to play this riff but this is a great no BS lesson with tabs. you're a good man
Thanks! That's very nice of you, but don't give up!
love this
Thanks Mya!
Very nice! The song is awesome and your feel and fingering sound pretty accurate - great job!
Thanks so much, Keith. It's an incredible riff, as it sounds so lovely and natural, but is not super easy to play.

what a bass line! thanks for the great work transcribing!
Brilliant, isn't it!?! Thanks for your support.
Awesome vid. Now to contemplate whether I should try tuning my 20-feet bass up a half step in order to play this
Thanks Zach! Just sing it a half step lower. ;)
You rock for doing this, thank you
My pleasure! Thanks for the support.
Sick and quick! Good explanation there. What effects are you using?

You're most welcome! Thanks for visiting.
thanks for the vid dude, did you see the clip of bender playing the riff on his 6 string in the session? its on their ig
Yes, I did! That moment where he settles on it and is all excited! The man's a monstrous musician.
woooooo thank you for sharing!
Totally welcome, Andrea. Thanks for visiting.
Hi ! Just for the c major at the 21st fret - my fret board only has 20, how can I accommodate that ? Thank you so much !!

Terrible! Thanks Darren.
My party stopped at the 21st fret.
Ohhh dammit! Hey, love that Mean Street cover by the way!
@@dannyeddyguitarthank you!
my bass doesnt have 20 frets :((
Awww that sucks, Jakob
Guess I have to aquire a bass
Do it! Thanks for the visit.
The sad moment when you realise your bass only has 20 frets :( (Ibanez TMB30 Talman Ivory)
Oh damn! Well, you can still play along with the awesome groove. Just use lower voicings and inversions.
@@dannyeddyguitar thanks! I will, but I think there is no avoiding the 6 string bass purchase now..
My bass only has 19 frets 😭😭
Yah, that does make things difficult. :(
