My dad and I love these when out on the field (or in the waders as I like to say). They're awesome waterfowl stoppers, though they do recoil quite a bit like people have noted. Still, performance outweighs the mild aches you can get from a box of these on a good day of hunting. I would even dare to say these would be my preferred load for geese when I can find them.
I shot a whole box of the 3" Hypersonic in size 4 through my Benelli M3 at the clay target range yesterday. I've never shot anything that has the recoil or the BOOOOMPF! of the Hypersonic. Even with the gun in semi auto mode these shots were heavy enough to put them a bit on the ridiculously heavy side. Not a very pleassant load to shoot in the long run. It' was great fun and I had a bit of a sore shoulder but for practical reasons I am hesitant to use these. I think if they loaded these with lead instead they would be a real winner. But as is now they are a bit pointless unless you absolutely need to shoot with steel and at far distance. Nice looking box and many smiles at the range as i fired these while the rest of the guys were shooting the lightest clay rounds around - Pfffff, Pfffff, Pfffff, Pffff, BOOOOOMPF! :)
Glad to see a fellow-leftie in this video. (I only noticed it when I saw you writing on your clipboard.) You several times ask when your viewers would like to see. I would like to see you do a video on left-handed use of a tactical shotgun, especially as relates to use as a home defense weapon.
Not sure a home-defence-tactical-shotgun-handling video would be my thing - suspect there are lots of trainers who are already all over this on youtube, albeit specialized LH stuff maybe not. Sometimes I feel like all their specialized manipulations are overrated though - basic familiarization is hard to beat and hunting has many overlapping skills/concepts.
I used the Remington Hypersonic Steel 12ga. 3" 1 1/8th ounce BB Shot when pass shooting geese. I only had one flight come by within range, and they were approximately 50 yards high. I hit the goose with the first shot using a modified choke, and the goose fell into the water dead. When I got home I patterned the load at 51 yards to see what kind of pattern I had on the goose. I used a 12" X 12" target and received 13 hits within the target (Modified Choke). There was no way a goose could fly through this pattern without getting hit at least 3 times in the vitals. I would attach the image of the target, but don't think I can on this site? I am new to goose hunting, so I have no idea if thirteen hits at 51 yards within a 12" square target is any good, but you have the information.
Thanks for making this. I always wonder where my money is going with the more expensive loads. Is it all hype or will my % go up if I buy these? liked and subbed
If you use ballistic calculators on round balls, particularly steel ones with low density, you will quickly see that velocity over 1,000 fps (speed of sound) is almost useless, as such ballistically-inefficient projectiles lose velocity above the speed of sound at such a high rate. The ticket for hunting with a shotgun at range seems to be having a heavier payload so you are throwing more pellets for a denser pattern.
Good point re penetration, however since filming this video I've come to believe the competitive advantage of increased velocity in waterfowl shells stems primarily from the reduced lead (not lead the element, but lead as in distance) you need when shooting at longer/ish range.
Can you revisit these with all the new tungsten an bismuth shots that are out now? that would be interesting to see how much more they really penetrate if there worth the extra money
U never had problems with the 3.5” shells getting stuck inside the barrel??? I had one box of these remington hypersonic 3.5” #BB.., when i would fire it the shell would be stuck inside the barrel. Soo im gonna try 3 inches #2’s
I so rarely shoot 3.5 inch shells it's hard to comment....my favourite waterfowl loads right now are federal 2.75" black cloud #3 for ducks, and 3" black cloud BBB for geese.
Ive shot all these loads in the past....Im sticking with Blackcloud Snowgoose...1645fps 1 1/8oz......Speed and patterns like you want it to. 50 yard Canada's and they drop dead. I think(im no scientist) that the lighter load helps with the pattern, more pellets in the kill zone than a heavier 1 1/4 or 1 3/8oz load
I have tried them with my 26 and 28" barrels too - the chronograph reports very little difference in velocity although they are quite a bit less "blasty"
best shotgun shell reviews on youtube
Thank you!
Perfect video, this is how a round performance test video should be
Facts. He gets right down to business & moves right along.
Thank you!

I bet ducks and geese fall from the sky! Thanks for your note.
Great vids, thanks, looking forward to the buckshot patterns.

Oooo...my teeth hurt just thinking about that.

Nice! Keep up the awesome work!
love the videos keep um coming :D
Thank you!

Black cloud! Seems like it goes on sale every year too.

would this stuff be good for a tactical usage as in home defense or a combat scenario
I think there are better choices out there like #4 of OO buck.
@@Brobee223 How about when you dealing with multiple targets? I think nitro steel birdshot would be effective.
If your dealing with multiple targets or distance or use against DRONES.

Would love to, but it's unlikely I will as work and kids have me super-busy these days. Sorry I don't have better news!
great reviews
Thanks!

good test ... we would all use lead if we could.....i like this remington
Thanks!

My favourite goose load these days is BlackCloud BBB 3 inch shells.
Don't run that through an extra-full choke unless you want "blown" patterns!
Would be interesting to see, for sure!
Do you have a 28" barrel. These are hunting loads, not really meant to shot thru 20" home defense gun
I have tried them with my 26 and 28" barrels too - the chronograph reports very little difference in velocity although they are quite a bit less "blasty"
👍👍
Thanks!
Cutdown cylinder?
What results from taking a longer barrel and shortening it by parting off a segment. The result is a barrel with no choke.
Do some rio blue steel
If I ever see any at the gun store, I'll make sure to pick some up.
How many BBs are in it ?
Not sure, would have to pull more apart to find out. There were a lot.
Hevi metal duck load
Will keep my eyes peeled for it.
See what a KSG can do Brobee
That is an interesting shotgun, for sure! Will see if one makes it into my battery eventually....
Steels to light to go that fast. Garbage
I don't like them either.
weird review. who cares about led? we cannot use it as this is an unapologetically waterfowl round
Fair enough.
