Kent Fasteel vs. Federal Black Cloud | Ballistics Gel & Pattern Test

This is a ballistics gel and pattern test of Kent Fasteel vs. Federal Black Cloud steel waterfowl hunting ammunition. In this review I tested both ammos at 40 yards to see which had the best pattern density and ballistics gel penetration. The Kent Fasteel 2.0 has plated steel pellets while the Federal Black Cloud has Flightstopper steel pellets and a flight control wad. Both ammos would be very effective for hunting ducks as well as geese at appropriate range.

I tested these loads in my Mossberg 940 Pro Waterfowl shotgun using a Carlson’s sporting clays XF choke tube. The Kent Fasteel was 3” with 1.25 ounces of #4 shot at 1500 FPS. The Federal Black Cloud was 3” with 1.25 ounces of #4 shot at 1450 FPS. This experiment was done at a certified range with proper safety equipment.
