  • A simple way to create the STRONGEST car rod holders possible, using suction cup glass lifters, tested to lift weights of 70kg!!!
I have been using these kind of rod holders for about five seasons now with no issues whatsoever, as have the dozens of others using sets I have made along the River Moy in Ireland and the River Tay in Scotland.
The way I make them permits rotating the pipe, under a little friction, meaning you can face the suction cups any direction for any car bonnet.
A very handy bit of kit for moving between pools or beats while river fishing river or shore fishing, without having to pack down rods.
I hope you enjoy watching 👍

Materials you will need to create a set of 2 holders:
    2x Double suction glass lifters
    2x Hex M8 bolts, 150mm in length
    Rubber tubing or washers
    6x Hex M8 nuts
    4x M8 Pronged T nuts
    20mm Diameter plastic piping
200cm of 4mm Diameter bungee cord
Pipe lagging or small pool noodle
    Insulation tape
    Shrink tubing (only cosmetic)
    Gorilla glue or similar
    2x Dome nuts
    Keeping rods and holders safe:
    • Ensure both suction pads of each holder is bonded to the car or top of windscreen.
    • Ensure both the suction pads and car surfaces are clean and do not wet suction pads.
    • Attach the pads (at the reel end) as close to the nose of the bonnet as possible, ensuring the rod has as low a profile as possible.
    • Be aware of very low lying branches which can catch longer rods.
    • Keep a safe distance from cars in front as road chippings pose a risk to rods.
    • Ensure bungee cord is neatly tucked under end cap to keep tension on rods while driving.
Disclaimer: while these rod holders are extremely strong, I cannot be responsible for any damage as a result of inappropriate use of rods and holders.

Col from Brisbane, Australia, just made one using your video as a guide. Made it a bit stronger for 4 rods and heavier Alvey type surf reels. Great when moving up and down the beach between gutters. Tks.

I love how you take use of an IKEA/wish spanner. Use some locktite to Secure the bolt and the nut, holds better. But Nice diy

Great video Sean, where did you buy the orange holders?

Thanks Damien, I usually get the holders from eBay. Just search for 2x suction cup glass lifters. You can usually get a set of 2 for around £10-15.
Two brands I've used in the past are silverline (blue) and marksman (orange).
      Hope that helps 👍
