M Kuthami 2 That will be a great flight for getting a mix of visuals. You'll be doing desert, jungle and ocean Im sure! I hope your flight is in daylight hours. BEst advice is make sure you sit in front of the wing... otherwise if you cant get a seat in front of the wing, get a window right at the back of the aircraft.
IndependentVFX I feel so blessed to have you reply to me, thank you. : ) You've earned a life time supporter. : ) My dad will be joining me, he is old so I'd have to fix 2 seats. The flight takes off during twilight. Landing next morning, hopefully I can get sun set, sun rise, and a little bit of day time. Can I send you the footage later, so maybe you can use them or comment on them? : )
M Kuthami 2 Im sure you will get some great looking footage at Twilight and early morning. Yes - please post the footage and show me what you end up getting, Id be very interested to see. Have a safe flight and God bless. Thanks for your support!
Thanks alot! This definitely gives me a good idea on getting great footage and still images as a soon to be Visual Effects Artist like me. Going Hong Kong soo, thus guess I can make use of my plane trip to there~~
Hi Scott, would you be able to do a tutorial on: 1. Helicopter animation - takeoff/landing and general movement in the air. 2. Jet Takeoff - like the one at 00:17, but also the taxiing stage. obviously it takes time to do these, but I think these are essentials parts of the VFX industry love your tutorials, Matt
Great quick tip, Scott! This makes me wish I traveled more often, I haven't been on a plane in years! Do you have any suggestions for what focal lengths are best to shoot at?
ClassyDogFilms Personally I found 35mm on a full frame DSLR to work really well. Any wider and you start to catch the sides of the window frame (and the wing, depending on where you sit). Also - the longer lenses are really tough to keep stable - even the slightest bumps cause a lot of wobble. But 35mm - 50mm is a good range for me
You are great man! Can I ask you to make an AC-130 tutorial? I can't find one on internet and I think it's hard to make something good with it... you know.. make it look real..turbines...shooting cannons... stuff like this! Let me know!!
Dave Murray Thanks for the feedback Dave - as it happens I have done an AC-130 shot - you can see it in the opening sequence of this vid: ruclips.net/video/_c_oDgFtzUg/видео.html Its the C-130 from the Jet Strike pack. I cant promise I'll get round to a tutorial any time soon, but I'll put it on my "to do" list. - Scott
PiterSan Yes you are correct! Ive had a lot of requests for that. Its quite an advanced tutorial and there are a few others that need to get done first. But the takeoff shot will get covered in a tutorial eventually, I promise!
In the far future i hope to start a film production company similar to companies like the weinstein company etc. (mini-major); I know... very ambitious. I'm the person that likes to take an idea and put it in the best possible way for the big screen and i'm very controlling of the movement and composition of the camera also. What can you suggest for my career path and how should i start my journey towards the major film industry? And to draw it right back to the starting line: i'm 16
Daniel Adams Im still using version CS6 - I think I originally purchased the production bundle or video professional bundle (or something like that). At the time when I got it it was still version 5.5. Now you have to subscribe to Adobe CC to get After Effects, but you can get access to the whole suite of programs
