Mine arrived today, absolutely incredible piece of kit. The compound pliers, the way the screwdriver is used (compared to my old leatherman) and the blade are all brilliant. This is light but sturdy, I can't believe the quality of the Damascus blade, it's beautiful. I'm glad I bought this for half the price of the standard skeletool. Thanks again for the review, this really helped me make a good decision. I've been using this thing in the warehouse at my work already, it's a quality tool. 👍
I also bought this minitool. Unfortunately, it turned out to be not Damascus steel, but imitation...The core of the blade is made of unknown knife steel, on which sheets of Damascus steel foil are rolled for "entourage". Thank you for another useful video !🤝
I noticed them on AliExpress and decided to buy one based on this review. It can't do what my leatherman does but it will make a good replacement for the main tasks it performed. I love that Damascus blade and that's one feature it has which is superior to my old Wave. I need to get my leatherman repaired anyway, I've had it for twenty years and the damned things cost £150 now, I got mine for £60 😅 I might get another SOG from AliExpress, I've got a few imitation knives and they are pretty good considering the fact most cost 1/10th to 1/20th of the genuine ones 😂
@@anonjohnnyG True, I've heard it's not worth it. Mine split apart from using the pliers and the scissors handle snapped off when my drunk friend closed them in the frame. All the AliExpress stuff I bought for general tasks has held up surprisingly well. The knife shape on this SOG thing is much more sensible compared to my old Wave, add in the fact it's made from Damascus and I'm sold 😀 The best part is I can afford some others, this thing is a fraction of the money I put aside for my replacement Leatherman (hopefully they'll fix it or replace the frame at least when I send it back though 😅)

Thanks for the tip about their multitools-I just purchased a Poweraccess Deluxe from Amazon. Not sure how I feel about ordering from Aliexpress... It is tempting to return it for a better price... but as I think on it... I want to stand by SOG's distribution. But wow... the Kiku XR is only $20 USD.
So I bought the Reactor and the Sync I on Aliexpress (which were missing from my collection) and they are original products; no problem. SOG was bought by an American supplier, closed its American factory, according to what I could read... This may explain why stocks are sold in China by subcontractors...

interesting but not good. too ugly, tbh. anyway, my primary question is: why dont they all use chrome-vanadium alloy for the tools and whatever steel is used for screwdrivers plus a decent steel for blades (aus10a or D2) ? the only thing they got right (some of them) is replaceable cutters.
Probably machinability is the biggest thing, plus it’s not the best for high torque applications, it can be brittle and too hard so other alloys are better for the stresses a multitool takes.

Mine arrived today, absolutely incredible piece of kit. The compound pliers, the way the screwdriver is used (compared to my old leatherman) and the blade are all brilliant. This is light but sturdy, I can't believe the quality of the Damascus blade, it's beautiful. I'm glad I bought this for half the price of the standard skeletool. Thanks again for the review, this really helped me make a good decision. I've been using this thing in the warehouse at my work already, it's a quality tool. 👍
I also bought this minitool. Unfortunately, it turned out to be not Damascus steel, but imitation...The core of the blade is made of unknown knife steel, on which sheets of Damascus steel foil are rolled for "entourage". Thank you for another useful video !🤝
I noticed them on AliExpress and decided to buy one based on this review. It can't do what my leatherman does but it will make a good replacement for the main tasks it performed. I love that Damascus blade and that's one feature it has which is superior to my old Wave. I need to get my leatherman repaired anyway, I've had it for twenty years and the damned things cost £150 now, I got mine for £60 😅 I might get another SOG from AliExpress, I've got a few imitation knives and they are pretty good considering the fact most cost 1/10th to 1/20th of the genuine ones 😂
You would be disappointed with leatherman quality now anyway.
@@anonjohnnyG True, I've heard it's not worth it. Mine split apart from using the pliers and the scissors handle snapped off when my drunk friend closed them in the frame. All the AliExpress stuff I bought for general tasks has held up surprisingly well. The knife shape on this SOG thing is much more sensible compared to my old Wave, add in the fact it's made from Damascus and I'm sold 😀 The best part is I can afford some others, this thing is a fraction of the money I put aside for my replacement Leatherman (hopefully they'll fix it or replace the frame at least when I send it back though 😅)

It is tempting to return it for a better price... but as I think on it... I want to stand by SOG's distribution.
But wow... the Kiku XR is only $20 USD.
So I bought the Reactor and the Sync I on Aliexpress (which were missing from my collection) and they are original products; no problem. SOG was bought by an American supplier, closed its American factory, according to what I could read... This may explain why stocks are sold in China by subcontractors...

anyway, my primary question is: why dont they all use chrome-vanadium alloy for the tools and whatever steel is used for screwdrivers plus a decent steel for blades (aus10a or D2) ? the only thing they got right (some of them) is replaceable cutters.
Probably machinability is the biggest thing, plus it’s not the best for high torque applications, it can be brittle and too hard so other alloys are better for the stresses a multitool takes.
