- A little trick on how to fine tune the height of your mower deck. Many riding mowers do not have fine increment adjustments. This means we have to think outside the box. Adjust the mower deck height to your exact needs.
I just put a new set of lift and cut blades on my Husqvarna 54" , 3 blades, and reset my deck level. When my setting is the highest, 7 or 8, 7 I think, it cuts at 4" on the nose. Each drop, down to 6 is 1/2" less, at 3 1/2", etc.
So far I'm happy with the Husqvarna, I've had it about 9 years, and I service it regularly, keep it cleaned, and stored out of the weather, and I have not had to do any other work on it, outside of normal maintenance. Good tips here Doc, thanks for posting. JohnG
john g: I have the YTH22v46 and I just finished my 100 hr. maintenance. I also removed my deck (after seeing another great video on deck removal) and I cleaned the underside after flipping it over to make the work easier. I de-rusted it and gave it a few coats of marine oil based 'above the water line' white paint to protect it. The paint is hard shell once cured after a week. I now have the deck underside up curing the paint, with new hi-lift blades installed. I love this mower and it will be prime when ready to go soon. I want to raise my deck about another inch to achieve that 4" + cut. I want my St. Augustine much thicker, to crowd out the weeds. I have a terrible 'hitch-hiker' weed problem and tired of removing 'pea pods' from my shoes etc. that I will probably have to callin a profession weed service though. I've seen all the videos on how to raise the deck all the way up, (6th position), and level it front and back, side toside, and was wondering if there was another height adjustment connected to that lift arm underneath somewhere? I feel as a last resort I could go to larger tires all the way around. Thanks.
I tried your mod with one variation. I used a hinge instead of an L bracket. That way if you need to lower the deck all the way down (say for a belt replacement) you don't have to re-screw into the same holes. Simply flip the hinge out of the way.
What if the height adjustment arm is all the way at the top and the mower deck is only an inch from the ground and eating belts because of the angle
There is an adjustment rod and slots to move the deck..to set pto belt engagement..it
There are adjustments for the deck Higth
Good idea....even easier way tho is just adjust your deck height,so 1.5'" equals number 2 setting on the mower 🍻
Nice Tight Vise Grips Work Great Too!☑️
Why not adjust the height of the entire deck with the bolt between the front tires. Done in increments you get the height without the mod.
Problem with Troy Bilt riding mower model Tuffy. Mower deck has 5 settings, and with St Augustine grass I need to use the highest setting. The problem is, when I use the highest setting the engine bogs down significantly when the blades are engaged. I have looked to see if it is rubbing somewhere but could not see any. Any suggestions?
John Deer mowers are great mowers, just make sure you buy it from a John Deer Dealer, other wise it's an MTD with John Deer colors. Your Mod probably works great until that thin stamped steel tear out. Try short thin Bolts with screws with a Plate underneath for strength.
Can you show us how to level your deck your the only person who does this stuff on this mower I have the same one and no one doses videos on it thanks
Damn, my Troy Bilt is too low on 3 and too high on 4. On 3 I'm afraid the grass will die it's so short.
What if the deck adjustment fails? Mine will move from 1-5 but doesnt adjust or engage all of a sudden
Most likely a belt or spring issue. I occasionally have an engagement issue with my old cub cadet. I'm either gonna buy a tighter spring or cut the one that's on it a little shorter. Belts of course stretch and crack over time and even get glazed and start losing their grip.
