I hate to be that guy, but I am a blade smith so I feel I should address a common misconception. Quenching in oil does NOT ADD carbon. Heat treatment refines the grain structure and carbon that is ALREADY in the steel. There are ways to add carbon to steel through quenching such as case hardening but not with regular oil.
it's pretty awesome to me that you guys basically do a heat treat "quench" on the supercharger key-ways to harden them, just like blacksmith's do to steel blades so they won't break and keep a sharp hard edge!
It would be so much funnier if at the beginning, instead of saying you don't know corvettes you said "I dont know cars" followed by a montage of you not knowing what things do and what things are called.

yes you do carburizing not quenching to add carbon on the surface to make it hard

yes. oem windshields have that same black edges and pretty much looks cleaner so you dont see the windshield frame and sealant
