    Hysteria is one of my favorite Muse bass lines (out of many), so here's my tutorial on how to play it! This lesson video includes some slowed down play alongs for the main riff, chorus, and breakdown sections, as well as some explanation of the music theory that went into making the Hysteria bass line the way it is.
    Don't be intimidated by this bass line - just start slow and you'll get it with time.
    And yeah, that's a banana on my arm.

    Josh, you're teachings are ON POINT. Seriously, what you put out there is exactly what I've been searching for. My motor skills are improving up to my liking, but I've been lacking in the music theory department and understanding how to compose/structure bass lines around chords. And the fact that you take the time to scribe out the music and all, quite impressive. I think you are the missing link to help me bridge to the bass player I always wanted to be. Truly appreciate it, man. Cheers.

    This is a great tutorial and has helped me tremendously. Looking at the pdf, though, I think the notation is a little off. At 93bpm, the 8th notes should actually be 16th notes, the quarter notes should be 8th notes, and so on. Again, fantastic work and thank you for your lessons!

    • @joshfossgreen
      @joshfossgreen  7 лет назад

      "Off" isn't the right word, it's just a judgment call when you're writing a chart where you set the quarter note, since "quarter notes" and "eighth notes" don't actually exist, they're just a way to conceptualize subdivisions. I chose to write the chart with a fast quarter note so it wasn't too 16th note-y, but it would be reasonable to write with a slow quarter note too.

      Takes some work for sure. Make sure you're barring as close to the fret wire as you can, so you don't need as much pressure to get a clean note.
