@@jumpkicking Jinhsi, Yuanwu, Taoqi is not gonna work I believe. Individually, Yuanwu and Taoqi are pretty compatible with Jinhsi, however, without Verona’s ATK buffs, neither of those will help you with your desired dps
Nah they don't love their players. Not a single company does, this is part of their marketing. Surely much better and more respectful to players than Hoyo with genshin, but they do not "love" their players.

2:42 dr. ratio was a reward to players cause HSR reached a milestone. Mr. Yao is a reward for playing the current event. there's the difference. It's not like WW won the game of the year award already to be giving a permanent free five star. Which they already did gave a permanent free five star at the start of the game. making a limited 5 star permanently free is asking too much for a game that needs money to make more content.

Bluds reasoning and comparison of the free Dr. Ratio from HSR winning the Game Awards makes no sense. Kuro haven't won anything (YET), they just included an existing real world celebration in the game an he expects a free character in the mail right away? Additionally, 6 weeks (8/15-9/28) to max the event is plenty enough even for new, returning or the super casual player.
Imagine rewarding players that play your game instead of chasing marketing like hoyo. No, everything doesn't need to be mailed to attract new players, the reason to play this game is that it's fun
I think there's actually a bigger issue with Dr. Ratio and Hoyoverse in general, and this is actually showing signs that Wuwa is going out of it's way to reward it's fanbase and honour real life events. Dr. Ratio was ONLY given out because HSR was mobile GotY, this means that if it doesn't win mobile GotY again, or anything in the same vein... thats it for free stuff. The free Dr. Ratio and it's permanence is merely just a reminder. Mihoyo doesn't care about it's players, it's incredibly stingy, the free promotion was merely because even Mihoyo was forced to do SOMETHING for winning mobile GotY. While Kuro is giving out free 5 star selectors, weapon selectors, and a free limited 5 star with much more to come. I'd rather get limited 5 stars and the like at various big festivals than only getting something if you shill for Mihoyo... This rewards players who were there, and it's hardly fomo as three weeks is more than enough time and the game is free. There's more than enough content creators reminding people and with the prospect that there are more rewarding events in the future, it's far more reasonable. One of Kuro's selling points is that they are generous and even with giving out free stuff their profits skyrocketed. The idea of a *new* limited 5 star where in GI or HSR you'd get an *old* 4 star, Wuwa really is looking good. Also Dr.Ratio is not that ftp friendly. You need topaz and adventurine. In HSR kits are very niche and teams are not as easy to put together as GI and Wuwa, due to how specialized characters are and the lack of leeway in that it's turn-based, you quickly realize how team comps matter and Dr. Ratio's reliance on Topaz and Adventurine is not good. His BiS teammates being released around him, being two limited characters, new players have no agency to acquire them in such a short span of time. People have grinded solid for months and missed characters, there's no way an unsavvy new player can get Adventurine and Topaz in this timeframe. 320 pulls to guarantee both is not viable for a new player in the time that adventurine and the topaz rerun was announced, so the free Dr. Ratio was really a "thanks for your votes, here have this incomplete unit, buy the others"... You play Dr.Ratio without them and he's incredibly mid, playing him with unspecialized 4 stars is painful. Xiangli Yao however can work with the preexisting 4 stars with ease. You don't need 3 limited 5 stars that are released in a short span where you're not realistically able to farm for them. Also lets be honest, the 3 month window was more to sell than anything. The difference with Xiangli Yao is that it's not a cheap ploy, there's no agenda, it's just an organic real life event reward.
The difference is that xiangli yao is tied to the event so it sorta makes sense to have him only available at the duration of his banner. Meanwhile dr.ratio is a thank you gift for hsr winning moty during the game awards. So there’s more time for him to be available for everyone. What would be neat for Kuro to do is to have a grindable 5* you can get by playing a permanent mode. Kind of like how you can get Selena for free in PGR through a permanent rouge-like gamemode. Or Ayla, Alisa, Wanshi in the dorms. Stuff like that could be good for f2ps or even low spenders. Still, wuwa is in their early stages and got lots of things they can improve. So definitely keep sending your suggestions/thoughts out to them 🙌
I honestly think people wouldn't have batted an eye if they made the free dr. ratio only claimable for the duration of his banner. Simply because there's almost no frame of reference for how long a free 5 star in a hoyo game SHOULD be claimable. That's why i found it so interesting that the end of his claimable period synced up perfectly with his presence in penacony's story, his dynamic with aventurine, and his role in the (now) complete follow up team. To your other points though, I totally agree. They've got room to grow, and they've been steadily improving over time. And I'd love to see them add a grindable 5-star in either the tower shop, the hologram shop, or maybe the shop for another permanent game mode they add down the line. It would definitely help to minimize a lot of that FOMO factor.
That would be cool or anything that would increase our incentive to play more than the 10-15 mins a day. Atm I fear they copied too much of genshin, their market/store. The costs to buy astrite etc is a direct copy of genshin's greedy system and it leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth :) But I have hopes! Also as much as I have wanted it in the past, genshin is really moving forward too now giving a free selective standard 5 star character. I never got Jean, so I'm gonna have to get her too. haha. Also they reduced the daily astrite from 60 to 50? Or? I think I just got 50 now. That is a really bad move if they did. At least to me.
anyone who installs the game, already has a free 5 star in their mail through the selector ticket they gave out. that's gonna last till 2025. so it would be quite absurd to expect more. there will be more free units in the future as well, its kuro. im quite sure when ps5 version releases they will start doing reruns now and then, and that way they will be able to get the load off of creating two new characters every other patch and incentivize older players to pull as well. plus they are doing it out of the blue, no award winning no anniversary no nothing. its not that deep. its a free limited 5 star available for a limited time, there is no issue here, you make good content. the collab video was amazing, stick to that kinda stuff, don't do these kinda weak takes.
I think what they're doing is just good, you feed a dog once and they become hungry for more. They already gave a free five star collecter at the start of the game and two free 4 stars so i don't get why you need more? Nah, limited 5* should be limited. Make it make sense. They already gave 5* standard selector that exists until May 2025. There is zero reason why they should do the same for Xiangli Yao. They're not charity company no matter how generous they are. You missed the event, you missed the rewards. Six weeks to do the events is long enough. The events are simple, doesn't take much time. I am already at popularity 6 (50000 points) today which means I already completed the whole events. It doesn't even take a week. 3 weeks to claim Xiangli Yao is long enough. If they missed it, that's their problem. Also, there is zero points of making Xiangli Yao can be claimed up to months because the events will be gone already. No events, no points, no Xiangli Yao. They can't make the events permanent because it literally locks Jiyan companion quest because both takes the same place.
btw keep in mind on top of that selector that lasts for a year. u get 2 guaranteed standard banner chars. There is no wep 50 50 u also get limited free 5* wep and u can also pull and DECIDE which standard weapon u want so for ppl to complain about such thing is ridicilous
I wish we could have gotten a choice, Zezhi or xiangi or whatever his name was. Of course 96% would've taken zezhi and they would've lost pulls on that. I won't even bother levelling the dude though. Too hard to get level up materials in the game with waveplates contra rewards as of right now. I'm gonna start pre-farming for shorekeeper instead and just bunk up general supplies for the characters I do want in the future. Also the dude felt like a 4 star to me but.. Idk.

Maybe I could've worded myself a little better, because I'm worried that you might have misunderstood a lot of what I tried to say in the video. My problem was never about Kuro giving out the free Xiangli Yao, or with people skipping him for Shorekeeper, it was about the fact that we only get a 3 week time period to actually claim him. That's why I went out of my way to make that comparison with HSR. Not because I was simply comparing "for the future of the game", but to understand what a difference 3 weeks versus 3 and a half months can make when you're using these free 5-stars to get people excited about the game. Hope that clears things up. Maybe next time you can get angry about the actual contents of my takes rather than something I said in passing.

If you are not playing the game now and come back later to expect it is also their fault for missing it. Yes, I have no sympathy for new or returning players. This type of coping you did in this video is actually a bit cringe. They need a lot more work than giving a free 5* to attract new or returning players. As for the PS5 players, that is normal for PS5 players missing out on characters or items. It's been like that forever across many gachas. I would say they need to work on better content than worry so much about free characters if they want to succeed. This whole vid seems to be a bit entitled and ungrateful no matter how you want to spin it.
The difference is simple. Ratio was an Award Reward, on all players. Meanwhile this is a basic Event Reward and more will be in the future. Like imagine a new player starts playing in 2028 and gets suddenly 4 free 5 star, that would be stupid
The event is very easy and actually kind of fun. Takes a shorter period and mostly non-timegated so the concern about getting him is pretty much a non issue.

I wacthed the entire video to make sure I don't give an ape comment like some of the people in this comment section. It's true that FOMO has been more present in games, and even though WuWa is mostly a single player experience, it does make the player feel bad that they either didn't have access to the game while free Xiangli Yao event was up or simply missed the time frame to claim him. However the consensus is that ,currently, FOMO is a common practise in live service videogames. If you miss it, you miss it. The event might return, and there will be new (and probably some previous) event rewards to earn. Despite this, if you are a player that has missed out on limited time events, you will always feel bad but ONLY when you compare yourself to other players and that is the topic I think most people don't realise. If you keep comparing your experience on a single player game (mostly) to other players, you will always feel sh!tty about missing out on LTE rewards and there is no way out of feeling like that. Although playstation players will feel bad for not having the new free 5* they will have to come to terms with "being on equal footing of eachother" and separating themselves a bit from the PC community. I am of the opinion that FOMO in live service games is reasonable to some extent. This event allows you to complete it in about 2 weeks or less (knowing that you can visit some shops daily for more funds helps) which from my point of view is acceptable seeing that you only need to comlete a few quests and mostly play one little mini-game to earn the rewards. I think the video was a very good explanation of what to expect from the event and some possible downsides. You probably answered most of your own issues with the way WuWa is dealing with this event on your "Silvewr Linning" section where you basically mention WuWa making "getting a new free limited banner character" a common thing in their game, which is what they usually do in PGR.
Thanks for taking the time to watch the entire video! I agree with a lot of what you say, FOMO is a common practice and is at the core of how these gachas work. The best recommendation will always be to not compare yourself to others. But I think it's a bit of a sticky and nuanced situation because progression in games like this (especially in content like the Tower) is very affected by having certain or enough characters built. So it gets a little difficult to not look at and be swayed by what other players have and do. But that's why a lot of it comes down to that "silver lining". What sort of things will WuWa give to alleviate that feeling of "starting out behind"? How often will this happen in WuWa? I think we'll get our first look at the scale and frequency of these free character events once we get around to the half-year anniversary, but until then all we can do is speculate.

My guessing is that WuWa is still looking to increase their playerbase numbers and will most likely keep doing these sort of free 5* character rewards for some LTEs. I don't think they'll be releasing a new character every time a LTE is up and whe're right around the corner for a world expansion. However, I do think they will try to give us similar rewards for major chinese events like what they're doing right now. Ultimately, I think it would be better to wait until the first anniversary to understand what's the extent of their rewards
The system in Mihoyo is not the same with Kuro 💀 they are way too different. Mihoyo isn't even the standard form for gacha games. You're brain has wired by the hoyo system that you wanted a generous company like Kuro adapts the habit of mihoyo.
for sure! in PGR the new characters are usually released alongside a special skin, so i could totally see wuthering waves doing that! there have been rumors going around that we'll be getting skins pretty soon, so this could be something they go with to hype up a new character or a rerun character even further!

@@GoufggSounds like it's your issue mate. They give you free *5 limited and the requirements how to get it, if you didn't get it then blame yourself for it. Why making things so complex when it just happens on every gacha game, i don't get it. That's just how it works on every gacha game ive play so far, free limited on short period of time, if you missed it then it's your problem not the company. Why care about someone not able to get it? It's not yours to concern. PGR give plenty free skin, limited characters and selector but it is all tied to certain event that only last 3 or 4 weeks, if the event end the rewards also gone for good. In fact they did give permanent event for newbie and farmable character from permanent event, but it happens on 1.5 anniversary and 2nd anniversary. If they miss Free Xiangli then no one blame beside themselves, why you make this like Kuro make something horrible because nobody can't get him if they miss it, it's their own fault not Kuro. So the less you care about something unnecessary is better, if the game give you free stuff then take it, if someone miss it then just ignore. If you watched the video you'll know that the only thing I care about is how Kuro might be under-utilizing the free 5 star to market the game and attract new/returning players. Let me ask you this, what's the harm in making the free Xiangli Yao event last just a bit longer until Yinlin gets her rerun? Judging by Shorekeeper being the only new 5* for 1.3, it's pretty likely we'll be getting reruns soon, so Yinlin's rerun shouldn't be too far away. The freebie will still be technically available for only a short period of time like you said, but now it also gives people more reason to jump into the game or return to the game. Because now if you jump into the game while Xiangli Yao is still available to claim, you could have a very solid electro right off the bat. That's something you simply cannot do if the free Xiangli Yao only lasts for 3 weeks.

I agree with everything you said. I think that Kuro should hire people who specialize in marketing, especially from the West, because the audience here is larger than in China.
i'm not sure how their playerbase is split between the west and china, but i agree that they have a lot of room to grow in terms of marketing. they're already moving in the right direction with their online events, so hopefully once they grow in size they can start doing more offline events in different continents.
@@Goufgg in chinese gacha games CN is usually bigger and spends more than global. But the global revenue for WuWa reported by SensorTower was very split between global and CN (50% and 50%), it means global is really important for WuWa.

I think human beings are meant to complain and um, do a lot of it. And that's fine, but there should always be a event. And it should be limited to get a special 5 star free unit. You shouldn't have all day long and all year long to pull. A unit that's free.It should be a special event. I don't disagree. My issue was never with having to do an event or actually playing the game to get the free 5 star. It was about the time frame to get the free 5 star (3 weeks) being relatively short, when they could extend the claim period and do so much more with the free 5 star (whether it be through story or with the meta) to attract new and returning players. Hope that makes sense.

I don't really see an issue with making him only claimable for 3 weeks honestly. We've known about it for an advance period of time, plenty of time to start or return to the game. If they miss out after that, that's on them really
Tbh if you want this new character, you should play the game, the new player experience in wuthering waves is already good, with a free 5 star selector for the standard banner, a guaranteed standar banner and a 40 pull standard. Plus a ton of free pulls. Free 5 stars will happen more than once, but for this character you should play this event and be here. People are greedy and desperate coming from hoyoverse games , especially genshin who is following in wuthering waves footsteps and giving a shitty standard banner character after four dam years. Tbh, the game is amazing, play the game and take part of the experience and day one players will have more freebies, but kuro generosity will keep giving out 5 stars, wait until it's anniversary.
This is so dumb… Dr. Ratio was given for a MAJOR achievement, and it was the only time HSR gave out a free 5*. On the other hand, Xiangli Yao is give for free out of nowhere. And honestly, 3 weeks of claim time is big enough to be able to get him even if you’ve only started the game. It’s only 1.2 and Kuro already gave 2 absolutely free 5* characters (arguably 3 with 40 free pulls), so I have no idea why you recorded this video out of all.
Help! This guy seems to not think straight. Dont compare wuwa to other games in terms of giving free characters. The free banner gift is way different from free character because of a win. Wuwa: free character for event. Hsr: free charcter because of a win. That is 2 diff event. So why the heck are you comparing the 2? Free to get for 3 months? Boy you must be insane.
Who said it's just 3 weeks? There's 3 weeks of anticipation and 3 weeks of his event thats a total of nearly a month and a half. You kept mentioning how they should feature him in the upcoming lore or til the rerun of Yinlin banner but did you know that in the festival Xiangli Yao is pretty much the face of the event, and you get free trial of gameplay and the cinematic or cutscenes he was the one controlling the dragon. A month and a half is a very long way for players to have heard of him, so the time frame isn't the problem. But if you want a solution for this specific giveaway, there was no need to compare it to HSR since Kuro did what you basically said differently, but you were blind to notice it. Now, these are the ways i would say first. I'd appreciate and acknowledge their effort for giving out free limited 5 start. 2ndly, they should make a task for the new players(those who missed out his event) to give them a task that they need to complete in order for them to get him and that task should be limited as a 1 time for each acc. Again, i understand your concerns, but please lets stop dismissing their efforts and comparing them to another game(HSR) that has done something similar, which had a reason to give away the free 5 star(because they won something), unlike Kuro. I dont think the event is limited. There are achievements tied to certain conditions in the event. They wont put that in there if it is limited. The counter of the event page is similar to how the companion,s storylines have a timer. You can still access those story quest even after the counter is over. I think the same can be said for the Moonchase festival.

So the thing about this is, while yes I understand the concern, the event is tied to the main quests. So while it may be confusing, I feel like there's at least some *forethought* about it already in place.
The ac problem is that theres a possibility of Xiangli yao not being free because from reason when they advertised one of the post it got under direct strike from one app and it didn't happened to hoyo so is hoyo trying to stop them? Knowing Kuro based upon their track record in PGR if they do go down that path, it would rain free 5* limited or standard plus we might get grindable ones too, but we have to see yet if they would do the same in WuWa. So Xiangli Yao being free for a short period isn't really an issue as we might just get free 5* at any point in time in the future, meaning there would be multiple instances for new and returning players to just jump into the game.
What a bad take. Game just came out and we had a free selector and now a great free character. Plus, they cooking good with a story mode and events now.
If Kuro does that then maybe in a while, you all ppl will say "Ok, i missed the limited banner, let's keep the limited banners active for like 3 months each" doesn't work that way... dedicated fans get the most out of a game, that's the right way to do it, that shows some respect to players...
I bought into the CC hype so I maxed his talents and farm his relics, then I looked at his LC and realized my best s5 LC was 33.6% worse. His LC banner was only up for three weeks and devs released an entire new set of 4* LC without releasing one that was good for Ratio. Players usually say get 2-3 LC and 2-3 E1s for the Ratio/Robin/Aven/Topaz team which is insane when 8 limited 5* was more limited than I had as a day 1 player who spent money. If we are really lucky then Wuwa might give away a free 5* for multiple CN holidays.
I LOVE we have to work for it. Peope is being rewarded for playing the game. I play HSR too but is different getting a 5☆ for free because the game won an award than giving a 5☆ just because they want to make the playbase happy.
Am I crazy or did I read once that when the event ends, the free Xiangli Yao will be sent to people who didn't get him through the mail? I think it was in the leaks back then when it was rumored that he's free? I really hope I'm right cause you had a really great point, hsr played it very well on the Free Dr. Ratio in terms of teams, gameplay, and screen time.
If that happens... Why would anyone do the Mini game then? Of course they're not doing that if they get Yao for free anyways without doing anything, so probably no, You'll have to do the Mini game and Get to a certain popularity level.

What's the problem? You get a free 5 star and the even was easy af. I literally got him in 3 days and I started a week later because I was studying for my exams. Not to mention he was available in a banner too, so you could also pull him and his signature weapon. The free Xiangli Yao is like a bonus, you could easily pull him and when you get the free one you use it to raise the rank.
I started star rail in second phase of 1.3 and stopped playing the game second phase of 1.4 and downloaded the game back when I found out dr ratio was free
Reasonable and well thought out concerns. I'm pretty confident they'll make sure not to leave anyone out even if it's through reruns or some farmable method like they do with PGR. We'll see...
Absolutely, I'm excited when or how they implement grindable 5-stars like they did with Selina, Ayla, Alisa, and Wanshi. It would really go a long way in minimizing the FOMO factor and helping new players get started.
Hmm it’s hard to tell rn on how Kuro will give out free five stars in the near future for now in WUWA ! But I do agree that if they were to make the five stars available for a very limited amount of time; it can generate tons of fomo! And yet… it can also generate tons of engagement to obtain that free five star!
The real problem with free Xiangli Yao is he does not come with the required matching 5* weapon and a full set of materials to max him out. I don't have the stamina to invest in him over my 3 teams already.
That makes no sense. By the same logic you could argue that it's bad that the free selector we've been given was time-limited. It's almost as we get rewarded for actually playing the game. Three weeks is PLENTY of time for anyone actually being invested at least a little bit in WuWa to get Yao. Chances are that we'll be able to grab him one day one, or if it's time gated, on day 4 or 5. If that's not "enough" time I'd say it's completely on you and you just gotta wait for a rerun. Also, the comparison with Dr.Ratio and his 'best in slot' characters for a viable team absolutely doesn't fit into the WuWa gameplay-scenario since HSR relies on working synergy almost to a degree where you 'have' to build a good team in order to progres whereas WuWa you can literally solo the game with Chixia if you're good enough. There's more emphasis on player-expression than on strategy so there is no correlation between Ratio and yao in that regard. Would it be better if Yao would be available for a longer time? naturally, of course. I just don't think it's a big deal considering that he is free. If you want to grab him, just install WuWa, play the event, 3 weeks is enough to grab him even for fresh accounts - No reason to make a fuss about it. It's not a "PROBLEM" at all.
If you know what they do in PGR. Then you know kuro always do that in pgr. I don't think they need to do what Hoyo do. Kuro is their own. Hoyo is their own. Your still asking to much is what I see in this video. HI3 suffer for so long, they finally get free characters. Genshin is the same until yesterday the Genshin player are getting a free character coming up. HSR got lucky because it's the same person who finally can give the HI3 player free characters.
But I think just because Kuro has been doing that since PGR, doesn't mean that they can't adapt. There's benefits and reasons to why HSR allowed people to claim the free Dr. Ratio for up to 3 months, so what's the problem with asking Kuro to emulate those things if they work?
@@Goufgg You're comparing a fully free Dr. Ratio who came from a mail for free with no grinding. That's why it stayed long. Xiangli is free but in an event which could means grinding. Either the event was hard or the event is boring and is giving you no motivation to do it. This probably won't change but you should have compared it with PGR free characters in the PGR chibi dorm or anniversary event which gives us a month to grind. Dorm characters stay long with no limit but you still have to grind for them.
I think if u compared this situation to genshin event weapons it makes sense, but this is not genshin or hoyo, the use of fomo on free units is genius imo, mostly due to kuro games track record on p.g.r, this wont be the last free unit we will get, so if u start late or to busy to complete the quest in the 6 weeks time frame for what ever reason, u still will have the chance to get another unit down the road.
A free 5 star every 3 months would definitely keep me playing the game. TBH I was considering quitting before the XY announcement. But instead, I'm sticking with it to get a second DPS.
I think it's much better to have to complete something in the game rather than receiving the character randomly. as long as it's something honest and enjoyable to do. I don't see how this could be wrong since it is the basis of every single rpg, and you don't often see things like this in gacha unfortunately
I think it's interesting that you see this as a problem. I'm personally just happy to save my guarantee and Astrites for a future male Resonator. I play quite casually, though, and I don't think I'm necessarily the norm in the Waves.
I think the event is permanent because its directly connected to the main story quest (im pretty sure its a main story quest correct?) because to advance that story quest you need to do the event so unless they completely remove that entire story quest i think its permanent but we will see. Also another reason i think its permanent is cause ive been playing pgr since global day 1 and they have made events with free characters that are permanent so thats another reason but we will see
How about giving out Xiangli Yao after completing his companion story quest? And the marketing team gives out ads of him being free after completing his story quest?

I think using the marketing as competition is smart from Kuro's end. We know they are competing with hoyo over the playerbase, and with hoyo's fresh games, having a free 5 star available only for those who play on 1.2 is a smart way to get players away from their competition right after the competition launched a new game. If they leave him available for too long, there's no incentive to join wuwa now instead of later. They are using FOMO as additional reason to play wuwa over competitor's games. Without the timi limit, there is no FOMO
i agree but...the free 5star isnt a standard banner character he is a linited character so why would they leave a limited 5star out for just anyone to claim Its the equivalent of saying you leave out raiden or zhongli from genshin impact out for any new player to claim Dr ratio is good but he isnt as good as majority of the limited characters because he is free and beginner friendly so he is limited in what he has to offer

I disagree with you regarding ''time is short'' . They announced he will be free before 1.2 even started, even after 1.2 (phase 1) his coming out in phase 2 which is much more time given. Plus the event is pretty easy assuming he will be claimable at popular 6. still great video though!

I don't see the problem knowing that Kuro's PGR give free 5* (even meta units) for free once in a while. Kuro intention on this is simply to empower players, so they are ready to tackle contents, and they would prepare players like this every now and then. Thia devs is not scummy that only give things simply for marketting purpose.
I don't think using the free 5-star for marketing and empowering players are mutually exclusive though. Extending the claim period for the free Xiangli Yao until Yinlin gets her rerun will still empower players because everyone will have him, but it'll also be great for their marketing because new players can immediately get the best in slot electro team.

the fact of the matter is if you cant do what's needed to claim it within 3 weeks, you don't play the game enough anyway. Potential new players will still have a window to claim him as well, but i don't think you cater to word of mouth to try and draw in new players if people like the game they will play it. On top of that they are very generous with the 5 star selector at the beginning. you have to remember they are giving ONE copy of xiangli yao for free, but he will have his own featured banner & weapon in the shop. Its not like he wont ever return to the shop again for "newer" players to pull from in that regard. Its super nice of them to give us a free unit anyway. I look at it as almost a reward to the current player base for supporting the game, not a unit to draw in newer players although it may do that as well. Bluds reasoning and comparison of the free Dr. Ratio from HSR winning the Game Awards makes no sense. Kuro haven't won anything (YET), they just included an existing real world celebration in the game an he expects a free character in the mail right away? Additionally, 6 weeks (8/15-9/28) to max the event is plenty enough even for new, returning or the super casual player.
Imagine rewarding players that play your game instead of chasing marketing like hoyo. No, everything doesn't need to be mailed to attract new players, the reason to play this game is that it's fun
I think there's actually a bigger issue with Dr. Ratio and Hoyoverse in general, and this is actually showing signs that Wuwa is going out of it's way to reward it's fanbase and honour real life events.
Dr. Ratio was ONLY given out because HSR was mobile GotY, this means that if it doesn't win mobile GotY again, or anything in the same vein... thats it for free stuff. The free Dr. Ratio and it's permanence is merely just a reminder. Mihoyo doesn't care about it's players, it's incredibly stingy, the free promotion was merely because even Mihoyo was forced to do SOMETHING for winning mobile GotY.
While Kuro is giving out free 5 star selectors, weapon selectors, and a free limited 5 star with much more to come.
I'd rather get limited 5 stars and the like at various big festivals than only getting something if you shill for Mihoyo...
This rewards players who were there, and it's hardly fomo as three weeks is more than enough time and the game is free. There's more than enough content creators reminding people and with the prospect that there are more rewarding events in the future, it's far more reasonable.
One of Kuro's selling points is that they are generous and even with giving out free stuff their profits skyrocketed.
The idea of a *new* limited 5 star where in GI or HSR you'd get an *old* 4 star, Wuwa really is looking good.
Also Dr.Ratio is not that ftp friendly. You need topaz and adventurine. In HSR kits are very niche and teams are not as easy to put together as GI and Wuwa, due to how specialized characters are and the lack of leeway in that it's turn-based, you quickly realize how team comps matter and Dr. Ratio's reliance on Topaz and Adventurine is not good. His BiS teammates being released around him, being two limited characters, new players have no agency to acquire them in such a short span of time. People have grinded solid for months and missed characters, there's no way an unsavvy new player can get Adventurine and Topaz in this timeframe. 320 pulls to guarantee both is not viable for a new player in the time that adventurine and the topaz rerun was announced, so the free Dr. Ratio was really a "thanks for your votes, here have this incomplete unit, buy the others"...
You play Dr.Ratio without them and he's incredibly mid, playing him with unspecialized 4 stars is painful.
Xiangli Yao however can work with the preexisting 4 stars with ease. You don't need 3 limited 5 stars that are released in a short span where you're not realistically able to farm for them.
Also lets be honest, the 3 month window was more to sell than anything. The difference with Xiangli Yao is that it's not a cheap ploy, there's no agenda, it's just an organic real life event reward.
The difference is that xiangli yao is tied to the event so it sorta makes sense to have him only available at the duration of his banner. Meanwhile dr.ratio is a thank you gift for hsr winning moty during the game awards. So there’s more time for him to be available for everyone.
What would be neat for Kuro to do is to have a grindable 5* you can get by playing a permanent mode. Kind of like how you can get Selena for free in PGR through a permanent rouge-like gamemode. Or Ayla, Alisa, Wanshi in the dorms. Stuff like that could be good for f2ps or even low spenders.
Still, wuwa is in their early stages and got lots of things they can improve. So definitely keep sending your suggestions/thoughts out to them 🙌
I honestly think people wouldn't have batted an eye if they made the free dr. ratio only claimable for the duration of his banner. Simply because there's almost no frame of reference for how long a free 5 star in a hoyo game SHOULD be claimable. That's why i found it so interesting that the end of his claimable period synced up perfectly with his presence in penacony's story, his dynamic with aventurine, and his role in the (now) complete follow up team.
To your other points though, I totally agree. They've got room to grow, and they've been steadily improving over time. And I'd love to see them add a grindable 5-star in either the tower shop, the hologram shop, or maybe the shop for another permanent game mode they add down the line. It would definitely help to minimize a lot of that FOMO factor.

That would be cool or anything that would increase our incentive to play more than the 10-15 mins a day. Atm I fear they copied too much of genshin, their market/store. The costs to buy astrite etc is a direct copy of genshin's greedy system and it leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth :)

anyone who installs the game, already has a free 5 star in their mail through the selector ticket they gave out. that's gonna last till 2025. so it would be quite absurd to expect more. there will be more free units in the future as well, its kuro. im quite sure when ps5 version releases they will start doing reruns now and then, and that way they will be able to get the load off of creating two new characters every other patch and incentivize older players to pull as well. plus they are doing it out of the blue, no award winning no anniversary no nothing. its not that deep. its a free limited 5 star available for a limited time, there is no issue here, you make good content. the collab video was amazing, stick to that kinda stuff, don't do these kinda weak takes.

Six weeks to do the events is long enough. The events are simple, doesn't take much time. I am already at popularity 6 (50000 points) today which means I already completed the whole events. It doesn't even take a week.

No events, no points, no Xiangli Yao. They can't make the events permanent because it literally locks Jiyan companion quest because both takes the same place.

I'm gonna start pre-farming for shorekeeper instead and just bunk up general supplies for the characters I do want in the future.

Maybe I could've worded myself a little better, because I'm worried that you might have misunderstood a lot of what I tried to say in the video. My problem was never about Kuro giving out the free Xiangli Yao, or with people skipping him for Shorekeeper, it was about the fact that we only get a 3 week time period to actually claim him.
That's why I went out of my way to make that comparison with HSR. Not because I was simply comparing "for the future of the game", but to understand what a difference 3 weeks versus 3 and a half months can make when you're using these free 5-stars to get people excited about the game.
Hope that clears things up. Maybe next time you can get angry about the actual contents of my takes rather than something I said in passing.

The difference is simple. Ratio was an Award Reward, on all players. Meanwhile this is a basic Event Reward and more will be in the future.

I wacthed the entire video to make sure I don't give an ape comment like some of the people in this comment section.
It's true that FOMO has been more present in games, and even though WuWa is mostly a single player experience, it does make the player feel bad that they either didn't have access to the game while free Xiangli Yao event was up or simply missed the time frame to claim him. However the consensus is that ,currently, FOMO is a common practise in live service videogames. If you miss it, you miss it. The event might return, and there will be new (and probably some previous) event rewards to earn. Despite this, if you are a player that has missed out on limited time events, you will always feel bad but ONLY when you compare yourself to other players and that is the topic I think most people don't realise.
If you keep comparing your experience on a single player game (mostly) to other players, you will always feel sh!tty about missing out on LTE rewards and there is no way out of feeling like that. Although playstation players will feel bad for not having the new free 5* they will have to come to terms with "being on equal footing of eachother" and separating themselves a bit from the PC community.
I am of the opinion that FOMO in live service games is reasonable to some extent. This event allows you to complete it in about 2 weeks or less (knowing that you can visit some shops daily for more funds helps) which from my point of view is acceptable seeing that you only need to comlete a few quests and mostly play one little mini-game to earn the rewards.
I think the video was a very good explanation of what to expect from the event and some possible downsides. You probably answered most of your own issues with the way WuWa is dealing with this event on your "Silvewr Linning" section where you basically mention WuWa making "getting a new free limited banner character" a common thing in their game, which is what they usually do in PGR.

I agree with a lot of what you say, FOMO is a common practice and is at the core of how these gachas work. The best recommendation will always be to not compare yourself to others. But I think it's a bit of a sticky and nuanced situation because progression in games like this (especially in content like the Tower) is very affected by having certain or enough characters built. So it gets a little difficult to not look at and be swayed by what other players have and do.
But that's why a lot of it comes down to that "silver lining". What sort of things will WuWa give to alleviate that feeling of "starting out behind"? How often will this happen in WuWa? I think we'll get our first look at the scale and frequency of these free character events once we get around to the half-year anniversary, but until then all we can do is speculate.

My guessing is that WuWa is still looking to increase their playerbase numbers and will most likely keep doing these sort of free 5* character rewards for some LTEs. I don't think they'll be releasing a new character every time a LTE is up and whe're right around the corner for a world expansion. However, I do think they will try to give us similar rewards for major chinese events like what they're doing right now. Ultimately, I think it would be better to wait until the first anniversary to understand what's the extent of their rewards
The system in Mihoyo is not the same with Kuro 💀 they are way too different. Mihoyo isn't even the standard form for gacha games.

Why making things so complex when it just happens on every gacha game, i don't get it. That's just how it works on every gacha game ive play so far, free limited on short period of time, if you missed it then it's your problem not the company. Why care about someone not able to get it? It's not yours to concern.
PGR give plenty free skin, limited characters and selector but it is all tied to certain event that only last 3 or 4 weeks, if the event end the rewards also gone for good. In fact they did give permanent event for newbie and farmable character from permanent event, but it happens on 1.5 anniversary and 2nd anniversary.
If they miss Free Xiangli then no one blame beside themselves, why you make this like Kuro make something horrible because nobody can't get him if they miss it, it's their own fault not Kuro.

Let me ask you this, what's the harm in making the free Xiangli Yao event last just a bit longer until Yinlin gets her rerun? Judging by Shorekeeper being the only new 5* for 1.3, it's pretty likely we'll be getting reruns soon, so Yinlin's rerun shouldn't be too far away.
The freebie will still be technically available for only a short period of time like you said, but now it also gives people more reason to jump into the game or return to the game.
Because now if you jump into the game while Xiangli Yao is still available to claim, you could have a very solid electro right off the bat. That's something you simply cannot do if the free Xiangli Yao only lasts for 3 weeks.

I don't disagree. My issue was never with having to do an event or actually playing the game to get the free 5 star. It was about the time frame to get the free 5 star (3 weeks) being relatively short, when they could extend the claim period and do so much more with the free 5 star (whether it be through story or with the meta) to attract new and returning players. Hope that makes sense.

Tbh if you want this new character, you should play the game, the new player experience in wuthering waves is already good, with a free 5 star selector for the standard banner, a guaranteed standar banner and a 40 pull standard. Plus a ton of free pulls. Free 5 stars will happen more than once, but for this character you should play this event and be here. People are greedy and desperate coming from hoyoverse games , especially genshin who is following in wuthering waves footsteps and giving a shitty standard banner character after four dam years.

This is so dumb… Dr. Ratio was given for a MAJOR achievement, and it was the only time HSR gave out a free 5*. On the other hand, Xiangli Yao is give for free out of nowhere. And honestly, 3 weeks of claim time is big enough to be able to get him even if you’ve only started the game.

There's 3 weeks of anticipation and 3 weeks of his event thats a total of nearly a month and a half. You kept mentioning how they should feature him in the upcoming lore or til the rerun of Yinlin banner but did you know that in the festival Xiangli Yao is pretty much the face of the event, and you get free trial of gameplay and the cinematic or cutscenes he was the one controlling the dragon. A month and a half is a very long way for players to have heard of him, so the time frame isn't the problem.
But if you want a solution for this specific giveaway, there was no need to compare it to HSR since Kuro did what you basically said differently, but you were blind to notice it.
Now, these are the ways i would say first. I'd appreciate and acknowledge their effort for giving out free limited 5 start. 2ndly, they should make a task for the new players(those who missed out his event) to give them a task that they need to complete in order for them to get him and that task should be limited as a 1 time for each acc.

I dont think the event is limited. There are achievements tied to certain conditions in the event. They wont put that in there if it is limited. The counter of the event page is similar to how the companion,s storylines have a timer. You can still access those story quest even after the counter is over. I think the same can be said for the Moonchase festival.

Knowing Kuro based upon their track record in PGR if they do go down that path, it would rain free 5* limited or standard plus we might get grindable ones too, but we have to see yet if they would do the same in WuWa.
So Xiangli Yao being free for a short period isn't really an issue as we might just get free 5* at any point in time in the future, meaning there would be multiple instances for new and returning players to just jump into the game.
What a bad take. Game just came out and we had a free selector and now a great free character. Plus, they cooking good with a story mode and events now.

I bought into the CC hype so I maxed his talents and farm his relics, then I looked at his LC and realized my best s5 LC was 33.6% worse. His LC banner was only up for three weeks and devs released an entire new set of 4* LC without releasing one that was good for Ratio. Players usually say get 2-3 LC and 2-3 E1s for the Ratio/Robin/Aven/Topaz team which is insane when 8 limited 5* was more limited than I had as a day 1 player who spent money.
If we are really lucky then Wuwa might give away a free 5* for multiple CN holidays.

What's the problem? You get a free 5 star and the even was easy af. I literally got him in 3 days and I started a week later because I was studying for my exams. Not to mention he was available in a banner too, so you could also pull him and his signature weapon. The free Xiangli Yao is like a bonus, you could easily pull him and when you get the free one you use it to raise the rank.
I started star rail in second phase of 1.3 and stopped playing the game second phase of 1.4 and downloaded the game back when I found out dr ratio was free

Absolutely, I'm excited when or how they implement grindable 5-stars like they did with Selina, Ayla, Alisa, and Wanshi. It would really go a long way in minimizing the FOMO factor and helping new players get started.

But I do agree that if they were to make the five stars available for a very limited amount of time; it can generate tons of fomo! And yet… it can also generate tons of engagement to obtain that free five star!
The real problem with free Xiangli Yao is he does not come with the required matching 5* weapon and a full set of materials to max him out. I don't have the stamina to invest in him over my 3 teams already.

By the same logic you could argue that it's bad that the free selector we've been given was time-limited. It's almost as we get rewarded for actually playing the game.
Three weeks is PLENTY of time for anyone actually being invested at least a little bit in WuWa to get Yao. Chances are that we'll be able to grab him one day one, or if it's time gated, on day 4 or 5. If that's not "enough" time I'd say it's completely on you and you just gotta wait for a rerun.
Also, the comparison with Dr.Ratio and his 'best in slot' characters for a viable team absolutely doesn't fit into the WuWa gameplay-scenario since HSR relies on working synergy almost to a degree where you 'have' to build a good team in order to progres whereas WuWa you can literally solo the game with Chixia if you're good enough. There's more emphasis on player-expression than on strategy so there is no correlation between Ratio and yao in that regard.
Would it be better if Yao would be available for a longer time? naturally, of course.

Genshin is the same until yesterday the Genshin player are getting a free character coming up. HSR got lucky because it's the same person who finally can give the HI3 player free characters.
But I think just because Kuro has been doing that since PGR, doesn't mean that they can't adapt. There's benefits and reasons to why HSR allowed people to claim the free Dr. Ratio for up to 3 months, so what's the problem with asking Kuro to emulate those things if they work?
@@Goufgg You're comparing a fully free Dr. Ratio who came from a mail for free with no grinding. That's why it stayed long. Xiangli is free but in an event which could means grinding. Either the event was hard or the event is boring and is giving you no motivation to do it. This probably won't change but you should have compared it with PGR free characters in the PGR chibi dorm or anniversary event which gives us a month to grind. Dorm characters stay long with no limit but you still have to grind for them.
I think if u compared this situation to genshin event weapons it makes sense, but this is not genshin or hoyo, the use of fomo on free units is genius imo, mostly due to kuro games track record on p.g.r, this wont be the last free unit we will get, so if u start late or to busy to complete the quest in the 6 weeks time frame for what ever reason, u still will have the chance to get another unit down the road.
A free 5 star every 3 months would definitely keep me playing the game. TBH I was considering quitting before the XY announcement. But instead, I'm sticking with it to get a second DPS.

I think it's interesting that you see this as a problem. I'm personally just happy to save my guarantee and Astrites for a future male Resonator. I play quite casually, though, and I don't think I'm necessarily the norm in the Waves.
I think the event is permanent because its directly connected to the main story quest (im pretty sure its a main story quest correct?) because to advance that story quest you need to do the event so unless they completely remove that entire story quest i think its permanent but we will see.
Also another reason i think its permanent is cause ive been playing pgr since global day 1 and they have made events with free characters that are permanent so thats another reason but we will see

I think using the marketing as competition is smart from Kuro's end. We know they are competing with hoyo over the playerbase, and with hoyo's fresh games, having a free 5 star available only for those who play on 1.2 is a smart way to get players away from their competition right after the competition launched a new game. If they leave him available for too long, there's no incentive to join wuwa now instead of later. They are using FOMO as additional reason to play wuwa over competitor's games. Without the timi limit, there is no FOMO

I disagree with you regarding ''time is short'' . They announced he will be free before 1.2 even started, even after 1.2 (phase 1) his coming out in phase 2 which is much more time given. Plus the event is pretty easy assuming he will be claimable at popular 6. still great video though!

knowing that Kuro's PGR give free 5* (even meta units) for free once in a while. Kuro intention on this is simply to empower players, so they are ready to tackle contents, and they would prepare players like this every now and then.
Thia devs is not scummy that only give things simply for marketting purpose.
I don't think using the free 5-star for marketing and empowering players are mutually exclusive though. Extending the claim period for the free Xiangli Yao until Yinlin gets her rerun will still empower players because everyone will have him, but it'll also be great for their marketing because new players can immediately get the best in slot electro team.

What happen in gaming industries usually is that,
Marketting had a huge success -> MArketting become more and more important in the company -> Marketting staff become key figures in the company (executives, CEO, Director) -> They make decision that is mroe in tune with marketting, stray away from their initial purpose.

the fact of the matter is if you cant do what's needed to claim it within 3 weeks, you don't play the game enough anyway. Potential new players will still have a window to claim him as well, but i don't think you cater to word of mouth to try and draw in new players if people like the game they will play it. On top of that they are very generous with the 5 star selector at the beginning. you have to remember they are giving ONE copy of xiangli yao for free, but he will have his own featured banner & weapon in the shop. Its not like he wont ever return to the shop again for "newer" players to pull from in that regard. Its super nice of them to give us a free unit anyway. I look at it as almost a reward to the current player base for supporting the game, not a unit to draw in newer players although it may do that as well. I think this video is bait & you just needed a video idea.

Well i love Kuro Dev, i don't mind it good stuff from Kuro Dev, i disagree most of the point you talk but i do agree some of minor point of view of your video, i get what you want, but sometimes Kuro Dev deserve better than it base players, they already got alot in game if ware not for them, even in GI started to change because of what theirs rival(Wuwa) can do.
