The engine gets lifted to provide clearance for the pan and gasket as there are AC lines and the frame which make it an incredibly tight squeeze. Especially when you are trying to get the pan in with the gasket later. The air filter comes off so the engine has clearance to be lifted. Otherwise it can hit the top of the compartment. The starter comes out so that you can take the cover it sits in off. Without removing that cover there is a lip on the pan that won't allow you to remove it otherwise. Lifting the engine could be optional if you like making life harder for yourself, but there is very little clearance or visibility otherwise for the reinstallation.
Dear 1A Auto, I've been trying to install my oil pan on my truck, but the back of it (the oil plug side) doesn't swing up cleanly. When I do so, the lip part (where all the bolts go in) catches or stops due to a thin, aluminum plate that is in the front of the bell housing of the transmission and skews to the right steer tire. Does this mean that the transmission on my Dodge 2500, 2001, is not seated/bolted down at a even level? I've this video a couple times, but I don't get that easy swing up application from the back side.
I was thinking the same thing why not clean and give a Fresh coat of paint on that oil pan also why do you need to remove the air cleaner and why do you need to remove engine mounts that seems a bit much the starter in the flexplate yeah that's a must also shouldn't you be checking the oil pickup tube while you're in this process
I did this and no I got transmission fluid leaking like crazy on my way to work so now after work I gotta figure out what happened I did the same thing u did nothing different I think when I was jacking the motor up it broke a line well I hope that’s all it is
I would have at least cleaned up the oil pan and gotten the rust off and cleaned up the rest, then give it a new coat of paint. I don't understand why guys always do half a job when it only takes a little extra time to do it right 🤔😬😁

Umm you don't have to remove the air filter to replace a oil pan. Makes no sense
Is it really necessary to jack up the engine?

Is the harmonic balancer a safe lift point for the engine??is there anywhere else i can pit my jack?

I thought it was gonna be a lot easier lol
I don’t think you had to remove the engine mounts and starter or air filter lmao

You torqued everything to a certain pound and did not even tell the audience. Smh if u were on a rush you should just let someone else do the job.
