I typically will send my first scout back with the sheep a little earlier to prevent having more than 6 villagers on one sheep, and usually spread the vills out in pairs to kill sheep, so they are all dead under TC, bounty taken, and ready to harvest without causing the villagers to circle one sheep. You can squeeze out that 3rd horse archer immediately without the 10-30s time of 3 partially idle vills on food
Very good tutorial and extremely similar to what I already am playing. More refined, I like that you didn't send a single villager to gold.
Yeah as a rus main I find that this is almost my exact build except I typically focused some on gold and build a slightly more varied composition. Been adding some knights and then siege. I want to try a few games focusing on just the HA/scout composition and not focusing on gold at all like he did...

info for you:
1. you dont need a monastary: with the current patch all 5 relics can be put in the abbey: just give the order to put the relic there to 3 monks at the same time; they will squeeze all 5 in there ;)
2. with the wood and the gold you didnt need, you can get some eco upgrades, or (more important) a siege workshop for springalds since your oppnents will try to counter the archers with mangonels...but you know this^^
3. if you set the rally point ON the relic, the warrior monk will pick it up and you get the nice dingeling sound so you dont have an idle monk ;)

Very interesting to see this build that absolutely no one uses today. The advantage of this is no one will expect it either. Everyone expects feudal pressure from the Rus and usually creates barracks and spearmen. At the gold level no one pressures the Rus early either. So most of the time you'll be just fine going naked with this build, you'll get most of the relics against most Civs and your horse archers will do lots of damage from range and can run from unfavourable fights.

Against the English rush I like to include a small wall to protect my woodline. Or another fortress to garrison in.

I prefer Rus fast castle build to feudal aggression, that BeastyQT demonstrates. Professional scouts is fun a lot, and you have not to risk your villagers on feudal boars. Also, russian FC is very tempo in the race for reliques.

could just right click TC and the scouts will drop the deer at the perimeter, very close, very nice. no need to "e" place them

One question, where do you get your food from when u eventually run out of deer carcases ? And at what point should you invest in gold mining, and what is the ''basic'''army for RUS, like good combos etc?

I love playing Rus so much but honestly the hardest part is managing the unsynchronized scouts in the early game, it's too much APM for my two brain cells

Just make more scout during the transition so you got one big grp of scouts

Awesome video! I have a question though: How do you manage all those scouts? do you assign each scout to a control group or can I cycle through them somehow? I always lose the overview when im playing rus. Same with the monks, often they just tank frontline and die quickly.
You just have to put in the APM (actions per minute) with Rus, especially in age 1 and age 2. No other way around it. Just start Rus with a very vivid expectation to push your APM to the limit, especially if you get rushed in age 2. The effort pays off with Rus.

At what time would you consider putting villagers on gold with this BO ?
I think the idea is you just sell food/wood and get gold from sacred sites/relics. You'd only need to mine it if the enemy took away those options.

How do you adapt to early pressure that comes in before your castle age, e.g. mongol ram push?
Against rams => scouts are super strong, mix some archers in, for fighting off the spears
You could chain rally the warrior monks back to your base from a relic, to reduce your APM managing them. Otherwise this buildorder was perfect. Love your videos. Keem em coming :D

is there ever a point when the rus should go into farms? they most definitely have the wood production for it and increased food gathering from their bounty system.

you get more hunts in team games just kill your allies hunts
It's even better in team games, since you can kill all hunts just let your allies hunts on the ground
yes, seems like you will only want one rus on a team but that rus player will be able to hit 500 very easily.
a couple questions.
1) does harvesting the wood near your hunting cabin reduce it's gold output?
2) is Abbey really that much better than High Trade House? the Trade House can give you a good bit more than a relic in gold if placed well, plus a constant source of deer.
3) What makes Horse archers so good? I normally play Rus as a Knight-focused civ, since their knights are probably the strongest in the game (Royal Knights might edge them out by a little), but it seems like most people are going horse archers for them.

2) typically yes because you're not only increasing your golf through getting relics but you're also denying the enemy from getting those relics and therefore decreasing their golf. 3) horse archers are just very cheap. They only cost food and wood and despite that you can micro them and pick and choose your fights so it's easier to get good trades with them than the knights

2. Depends on the map and the situation. The main benefit of the abbey are the cheaper warrior monks (50%). Warrior Monks are incredibly strong and the fact they can grab relics and SS faster than any other unit is just icing. You could build a monastery and make them their, but at twice the cost + wood. There are some maps where High Trade House might make sense, like Black Forest maybe where you can put it in a literal surround pocket of trees. You can only sustain 8-10 villagers on the deer it produces and I think the general idea is that the reduced cost + relics/SS increases the value of Abbey. Abbey does also have some unique techs while HTH has none.
3. Horse Archers deal 12 base damage which only goes up as you progress, they are fast, and relatively cheap for their damage output. They also have greater range than archers once you get mounted precision, but less than longbows. a large cluster of horse archers will one shot most higher cost units, move faster, and are great for harassment. Their only downside is low health, so have a cheap Scout meat shield in front of them is important. Knights are literally double the cost and while a lot stronger overall, also require you to mine gold because passive output won't be enough.
Horse Archers allow you to effectively leverage all of the Rus bonuses together. Stronger outposts that house 8 vills to protect woodlines, all deer under TC so they are protected, faster food and wood gather rate, unique cav upgrades, bounty and passive gold for upgrades. It's going to be incredibly difficult for an opponent to harass your economy once you're set up in Castle Age because you don't need gold and food and wood are very well protected, while your horse archers can obliterate their villagers if they don't have a large force of units to counter.
3) because they are much cheaper, so much easier to build a mass, plus easier to disengage without damage and control which battles you enter

When and how do you transition away from deer food gathering? At some point it's going to run out and it sucks having to drop down mills and a bunch of farms

Now do you research any of the gathering upgrades other than professional scouts? Are you getting forestry? Or any of the econ upgrades? Because that costs a lot early on so it would slow you down a little bit. Or do you not get those at all until later?
The bonus hunt upgrade feels worth getting

No answer, I see. I guess they use TC and wooden fortress to use villages to deal damage until they can make horse archers.
Build knights (you have them age 2 why not use them) + archers. You are almost totally safe under your fortress+tc tho

The problem with this build is if the enemy ignores your scouts, because their damage is pathetic. You just focus on the horse archers with archers of your own.
Horse archers out shoot archers - even more so in the imperial age

Other than early push what’s the strongest counter? Walling + spears archers and mangonels?
As a Rus player,
^ pretty much what you said, mangonels can be effective if protected and not sniped, archers trade better if they have ~+30% numbers and are micro'd not to attack the scouts (or knights once they join in).
I think the biggest issue is the cav speed advantage just means the Rus player decides when to fight, so you may need to force it by hitting the Rus eco.
But also, early focus on protecting or taking hunt+relics cna hurt this (literally walling it or sticking spears (3-4) near relics all can slow it down substantially)
imo the Rus' greatest enemy is the Mongols, early aggression+speed bonus helps make the speed Rus have nullified.
Siege + wall + archers, yep and I prefer to do all of this in case.

I don't understand how you get paid to shoot an animal and leave its carcass. Who would pay you to do that? Surely they would only pay if you brought the carcass back to them. And dead animals no decaying is so lame.

Once a blueprint/build order comes out to win, it ruins the game and it just becomes rinse/repeat. Thats why low elo games are so entertaining because you never know what's gonna happen. With these high ranked games you know what the person is going to do at spawn.....yawn.
