    How do you get around the stink while carving bone?

    • @rickthemaker5834
      @rickthemaker5834  Год назад +3

      A good dust mask. And I use a down draft table that goes into a filtered box. If you can smell the bone your breathing it in.

    • @rickthemaker5834
      @rickthemaker5834  5 месяцев назад

      The one I have cost me about $450 but that was about 10 years ago. There are ones similar around. Best thing to do is search online for the best deal.

    Started doing some bone carving and I'm wondering, do you need to varnish the bone or is the boiling of the bone enough to keep it form becoming brittle? Also have you tried antlers? Is the prepping of the antler same as the bone

    • @rickthemaker5834
      @rickthemaker5834  11 месяцев назад +1

      I've never needed to varnish the bone. As long as you get the bone pure white you'll be fine. Sometimes some peices require a second boil. I boil with dishwash liquid 1 part, bleach 1 part and water 8 parts. And I have done antler the same. Noticed that they lightened up a bit so maby less bleach for that.

      Good to hear your interested in carving. The best thing to start with is a rotary tool and a set of bits. Pays to get a mask and eye protection aswell. Doesn't need to be the best stuff. Just start carving. 👍
