    The thing i like is that you did exactly what was needed to fix the problem. No changing parts until it worked. Those type videos bore me. Great job.

      @12voltvids  Год назад

      Anyone can just change parts till it works. That's how Canadian tire fixed your car. Amateurs will just go in and change all the capacitors. This is because they believe that if one is bad they are all bad and that's not how it is. Most will not fail. The ones that do are either under high stress or were defective out of the gate. All these surface mount craps were bad long before they were installed. Ticking time bombs out of the factory.

      @@12voltvids that and that you knew the tape guide alignment was out and why. I worked with a tech once, that was a former cop. He would say caps never go and he replaced all the rare rockwell chips on a cpu board as the regulator got red hot. There were 2 tantalum 100 uf caps on the 5 v rail. Can you guess the problem?

      @@12voltvids for years we would go around the shop and say, caps never go. It turned into a joke every time we changed one. This Was on portable data terminals, usually they didn't go in a cpu. But yes, reset caps, bypass caps leak. On backup memory.

    I’m always searching for a new VCR with S-video for digitizing, do you have any recommendations on machines to look out for?

    Great to see these machines again. The memories came flooding back. Tape guides secured by tiny hex key at base (Did I miss that bit?. Re: Drop Outs, I seem to remember a DOC adj' trimmer rescued low output heads. Also it looks like static generated by the Drum. Check carbon brush (earthing). Well done with those caps. I especially enjoyed the large brown Sony Caps in the later SWM PSU which destroyed PCBs.

    20:03 I was very surprised at Mr Carlson suggesting that. Maybe you can get away with it on some very heavy grade boards used in expensive test gear. But in consumer products, you are bound to lift tracks by twisting capacitors off.

    Great video! I’ve got a Sony EV-S1 and have been trying to move videos off tapes. This thing will play a tape and about 45 minutes in will start distorting. So after changing tapes out the same problem occurs I’ll go back to the original tape and the distorted area plays perfectly fine. It may be 15- one hour later. Judging from your video perhaps there’s a loose guide or something? It’s very frustrating that’s it’s so random. The first 7 tapes I dubbed didn’t do this. Just started happening. I thought you might have some insight.

    What Wattage soldering iron do you prefer when removing components from the PWB? Do you prefer Lead or Lead Free Solder? Lead Free seems to take too long to desolder causing delamination. I have one of these machines but the right hand guide does not move when tape is trying to load. Any suggestions on what might be the problem?

    • @12voltvids

      My iron is a Weller EC2000 from the 80s. Its a 60 watt variable temperature iron. My original one broke, but a viewer had one he found at a recycling center and donated it to my channel. That and the tektronics scope have been the best donations I have received.

    14:06 same way when i removed the capacitors from the board the solder pads broke off the board the capacitors had a bad leak and had eaten the solder pads 😭😭😭
    What exactly glue do you use to glue the pins to the tape deck? I had the same problem with my v6000 camcorder They had come out of the holes and I had to take the gears out of the back to put the pins back in ! I also didn't quite understand why when playing a tape there are lines on your screen, is the tape or the device to blame?

    Hello! I observed a few of your videos were this particular 8mm VCR is what you are working on, and you look like you have this model down to a science! I bought 2 of these off eBay, and they BOTH have the same problem!! The picture is static and the audio is broken. I thought I made my footage in SP, but upon playback these machines automatically switches to LP and can not be changed. I don't know if that makes a difference? I purchased swab sticks to clean the head because I saw videos stating Qtips aren't a good idea. Made no difference! I taken a little cleaning to where this arm touches the top of the head also! I will take one back apart to see if the posts you are adjusting in this video are also loose,, but,,, if I can't get this figured out,, do you take in shipments from customers for repair? All the VCR repair shops, for miles around me, all went out of business! I was hoping it was something simple, as it is odd two players have the same exact problem, and were sold as ' played well last time used '! Thank you!

      8mm and hi8 use metal tape. When head clogs alcohol or other cleaner will not remove as the metal partical literally fuses to the head gap. Abrasive dry cleaner tape is needed or the back of your fingernail against the spinning head is needed.

He is a fellow ham I have known for 50 years but he is so crazy and delusional that I want nothing to do with him. But in his twisted mind I am the one with the problem. He hears me on the radio and calls me and I don't respond. This all goes back to March 2020. When the world wide lock down started. Many businesses felt the pain of forcing to close. Many lost their jobs. He operates a home based business selling soaps and herbs and shit like that and there he is out visong clients and traveling all over the place. Essential workers like me had letters to be able to travel and work. These were issued to specific industries considered essential. Truckers, farmers, telecom workers, grocery and drug store workers auto parts and repair facilities, emergency workers ect. Selling perfume and soap is not considered essential. He was bragging about how he had a letter that said he was essential so I asked to see it. Said didn't have to show (because he was fu of sh1t) and i haven't spoken to him since. I have over the years discovered that a fair number of ham radio types are pretty cukoo. Not all of them but just listen to some of the guys and what they talk about and it will leave your head spinning.
