Funny how the most unlikely couple wound up being perfect for each other. Tony, who grew up on the mean streets, is well-mannered and kind; and Angela, who grew up privileged, is down-to-earth and humble.
Now I get it was, beyond the patine of comedy and family fun, something that dealt about men & women social status. They were both modern and impeached with their respective status. She is the boss career and money wise and he his the boss of the whole house. In the 80s the archetype of the man to provide and woman to be in retreat / taking care of the house and kids was very much present. The show was all about that. Evident chemistry and attraction and sending them cliches to rust and at the same time "this is not usual and that's why its taking so long for them to go with it". I highly respect this aspect of the show. And of course they were a steal to watch.
Why cant the make believable shows, romantic comedies, and family shows that everyone can watch any more. These days there is something so caustic that’s a “sitcom” that the entire family can watch; or rather they cant watch together. Kids walk out; the mom walks out; or the father ups and leaves cause nobody gets todays forced jokes; hidden motives/social engineering. Maybe I’m wrong, but its not like when i was a kid.
