Just as a FYI but you may already know, bag thickness is mil, not milliliters. It is imperial for a thousandth of an inch. Because milliliter is a measurement of volume and inches are measurement of distance.
In machining we call it a thou, which is less confusing.

Isn't Mil short for millimeter? That's what I said, but it may have sounded like milliliter.
I didn't know machining refers to it as a thou! Learn something new every day- thanks! :)
      I usually just say "mil"

@@AtoZForMoms No it's imperial. It's very confusing. 5mm bag for example would be half a centimeter, which is about 1/4" which would be a hella thick bag. lol.
To make things even more confusing, there is also an angular measurement called "mil" which we use in rifle scopes. Mil in angular measurement is proportional which changes over distance. By definition it is about 3.6" at 100 yards, or 10cm at 100 meters. At 200 yards it is twice that amount (7.2"). At 300 yards it is triple 10.8", and so on.

Why would the stainless steel freeze dryer be hundreds more than the black and white ones?

I'm not sure, maybe the cost or supply is different? It's that way for a lot of appliances.

Hello, Do the Harvest Right bags (with the pictures on them) affect the vacuum seal in any way? I like the pretty picture on the front, but am scared to buy it, because I fear it will make the mylar bag less able to shrink around the food. Also, is the picture a sticker, or is it laser printed onto the mylar bag? thanks

They don't affect the sealing in any way. You may be able to find cheaper Mylar bags however. Just make sure they are 7ml or more thick for the longest shelf life.
The picture on them isn't a sticker, it's printed on the bag itself however they do that.
      Remember to add your O2.

@@AtoZForMoms Thanks for the response. I'm new to this and have been binging videos like yours. I actually found a food saver that is designed for mylar bags, called the "Keep Fresh KF108." It has a thin metal rectangular air nozzle that goes into the mylar bag, while you clamp the sealer down and does a very good job of taking the oxygen out. There are some videos on youtube of it. It's $99. But... I will still get some O2 absorbers as overkill.

I think you forgot to add oxygen absorbers.

Does it get hot at all when you press down?
There should be a light that comes on when you press down and it's done when the light turns off. Also make sure the dial is set to the right number (I generally do the number the same as the ml thickness of the bag so 5 for 5ml etc.)

No, my sealer is new and doesn't seal the included bags. A friend who just got his has the same issue.
