Homemade Bottle Top Lure - Fishing Hack

  • As a kid I grew up making these nifty homemade bottle top lures, they are super simple to make and can be great for family time. They also make for a great fishing hack, in case you are stranded and need a little ingenuity. The only things that you need to create your own bottle cap lure include:
    A drill and a 1/16 ounce drill bit
    Split rings & split ring pliers
    A #4 or #6 treble hook
    BB's or split shot sinkers
    Drill holes in both sides of the cap and be sure to leave enough clearance from the rim, so that the integrity of the cap stays intact. Utilize your split ring pliers to open the rings and start gradually rounding them onto the cap, add a ring to both sides, once completed you can add your treble hook. Lastly, pour in a few bb's and squeeze the cap closed to prevent them from coming out. You can use your hand or a pair of pliers to aid in close the cap.
    Obviously in a situation where you are stranded you would not have access to these essential tools and would have to improvise. Whenever I venture into the woods, I always have a small care pack that includes fishing line and hooks. I would advise you to do the same for good safety measures. If you enjoyed this fishing hack I would ask that you please give a thumbs up, subscribe and share. Thank you and until next time, we will see you on the water.

    I tried it and it works! I catch more than any of my Rapala. I made 2. One I added ear foam protection to the inside but left enough room for BBs to rattle.

    Josh sir , thanks for this incredible vid , cause i recently got into making my own bottle cap lures ,what i've done was i took a lighter and heated up the bottle caps on soda bottles those plasticy kind and melted them down then dip them in water to prevent fires from happening and then shove a safety pin through the bottle cap and have hole to put the o ring and i personally got turttles to chase bottle caps

    These catch some bass .....about 4-5 months ago my son and i made these for a class project of his teacher and classmates really liked them he brought home and put in his tackle box and around 5wks ago me my son and my brother inlaw were out fishing and we were catching a few but was slow and my son tells me hey dad im gonna tie on my root beer lure i knew he was gonna try the bottle cap lure out i said idk bud dont think it will get bit he tied on anyways and on the first cast bam a decent 3 pounder he ended up catching atleast 6 more "biggest being just under 5" in less than 30 mins was just great to see made for some great memories. ... made me a believer in them for sure

    i was watching another video of a guy using bottle cap lures and he said they have no action and only caught 1 fish, but if you add some bbs to the lure I'm guessing this bottle cap would be very very effective during the ice fishing season when your just jigging it up and down while it makes that rattle sound to draw fish in

    NO ACTION: This cap lure needs to be Twitched to impart some Action. As a homemade Lure Maker, I have Experimented With Teaking cap lures, so they will" HAVE" there own action. The Solution is a Different, " PULL POINT" I drill a few spaced holes on the radius curved , folded shoulder, and use a tiny, " Snap clip"
    to change various pull point angles. This causes them to have a Tight wobble, progressing to a wider wobble as you clip to a further " Rearward hole. ALSO you can add a teaser attraction Tab on the Hooks Split ring, such as " SWEDISH PIMPLE LURES, RED OR YELLOW" Little plastic tabs. You can order online. Good Luck with these Enhancing Methods.

    Cool video but where are you going to get a power drill if you're stuck on a desert island or abandon somewhere that doesn't really make sense but overall good video

    • @darkencypher
      @darkencypher Год назад

      Not all survival situations will be like stranded desert island. It could be that society starts to break down and store shelves aren't stocked anymore. You haven't found fishing gear and you need to scavenge/improvise from trash/abandoned properties, etc.. You could easily source all of these materials, and there are ways to punch holes through aluminum w/out a drill. This video is a good foundation to get you thinking about the fundamentals of fishing in a post-industrial world.
